Absolutely wild. I live about 45 minutes east of Lexington. Fortunately this one missed us, but my sister had just moved right outside Mayfield only months before this happened. A tornado went right through my town and past my elementary school when I was in 4th grade (mid 90s). I was lined up along the school's hallway, duck and cover style and was the last kid in the hallway, so closest to the big double doors that led outside to the playground. I will never forget seeing our newly installed tire swing spinning around and around, as if someone were pushing it and the pea soup green color of the sky. We had a janitor named Mary Lou, this massive hulk of a woman and she was tasked with standing at the double doors, holding them closed with all her might as the teachers went into the classrooms and grabbed coats to throw over our heads to protect us from flying glass. As the tornado got closer, the doors were sucked open and almost took Mary Lou with them and we heard that insane jet engine sound. A girl in my grade and who rode my school bus lost her grandma after the tornado directly hit the trailer they lived in. It really is terrifying how quickly something like this can appear in front of you and change things forever.
That was pretty awesome!! The jet engine noise was very telling that a tornado was approaching! Very cool! Thank you for posting this, especially a night time tornado!! Very brave! Much appreciated!!
My parents have a place near Buzzard Rock. Even almost two years later it’s crazy when we go on boat rides on Barkley and can still see where the tornado came through LBL and mowed down all the trees.
The sound of this thing around :50 mark was one if the most impressive-sounding things id ever heard (especially with some good ear buds or home theater) but to be there and see it first hand, was unreal. I felt like we were going to see something that night that was not a usual storms. I really wished id shut up more so you could appriciate it instead of hearing me. I did not realize i was talking so much ( i have no idea where the Hank Hill voice came from). You never realize how small you are until you stand near a giant. This thing was a giant, believe that. Thank you all so much for you views and your comments.
That thing was no joke I have watched what videos are out there of this tornado and this one gave me goosebumps when I heard it, I live in Benton and it went by us about 500 yards away I will never forget the sound of that nice video
It's common for people who are beginning to experience fear to talk more. I watched it a couple times and right as you were telling her to clean out the closet I could hear it in your voice. I would have been afraid too and I think most people in their right mind knowing the history of that storm would have been too. I hope you have a storm shelter now or are considering it. They say storms don't make the same tracks again but that's so untrue. I also kept thinking as you were saying too many trees in the way that there was too much night in the way. Glad you made it.
1:48 play back at slow speed it is luminated left of the tree. I grabbed a screenshot of it. I wish YT would allow photos in comments. I know you know how close it was to you but boy it was closer than many realize. Glad you all were safe.
NGL that was fkn scary. The fact that you can hear it comin but had to rely on lightning to get a glimpse of it is terrifying. For not bein able to see much I'd have to say this is one of my favorite storm videos on youtube and I'm pretty sure I've watched nearly all of them. This same night another storm struck my city in Southern, IL. Punched a football field sized hole right out of a amazon warehouse and unfortunately killed 6 amazon workers in the process.
Amen, I definitely am not gonna stand and greet it, I would be done down in storm shelter if I had one or grabbing my family and pets and getting in the safest sptcovering into mattress and pillows, cover as best as I could and down on my needs praying to god to safe me and my daily .... Not standing outside filming a huge tornado that will creep up on you before you have anytime to hide that is crazy don’t you love yourself and family more than a dang 3 minute video. Come please don’t play truth or dare because you not gonn win with the tornadoes....
Crazy to think this was levelling houses just as this was being recorded. I mean look what it did to Cambridge shores which must have been 15 minutes or less before this was recorded.
that night I remember! That is a night I will never forget. I had laid down in my loft bed when the sirens started to go off, for a second I thought it was the monthly then I realized it was night! I quietly climbed down and ran to my mom who was in her own computer room beside my bedroom and shouted "Mom!" in a panic she was on a discord call with her friends playing their game Destiny. She shut down her computer and we hid in the hallway, we didn't have a basement. We were the two home that night. My dad was at work, my big sister was at a house playing D&D with our brother and their friends, and my nephews were they're dad's house. We had family and my friend calling us to see if we were ok. My dad had to borrow a phone from a co-worker to check up on me and my mom while he and his co-workers hid in the bathroom at work! The saddest part was driving through the part of where I live where there was stores and a cemetery and just seeing a tree ripped from the ground laying in the cemetery.
Where was this? I'll never forget that night. I'd never seen radar returns like what this produced. I thought it'd lifted and cycled towards my direction but nope. Just another long track EF3 that formed south of it in Tennessee. That one hopped and skipped all the way to just outside BG where it met the newly forming tornado that ended up tearing through the center of town. Truly a wild night for meteorology and weather nerds like myself
the location says eddyville which is just across the twin lakes on the north east part so they were seeing the tornado that impacted mayfield on 12/10 crossing the twin lakes into caldwell county so yeah this the big one of the outbreak
@@cptjarret8957 yeah I figured, I just wasn't sure if it was around LBL or if it was closer to the Dawson Springs/Bremen area. I guess I could've read the description lol
@@cptjarret8957 have you seen the ground scouring outside of Princeton? It's insane. You can see multiple vortices just ripping up the ground circling around the central vortex. I've never seen ground scouring quite like that
1:28 big tornado coming lemme bust out my Hank Hill voice.
i am quite late but you recorded a historic tornado
That thunder clap at 1:35 sounds really wicked!

Man, this must have been intense! Knowing that your fate may be up to nature, and which path the tornado takes. Great job staying composed.

The man who filmed this is so chill

Thanks. It was a very interesting 5 minutes.
God. That's scary looking. It's one thing getting hit by a tornado during the day but at night is creepy. Just a dark blob shape off in the distance.
My goodness! Just the sounds are frightening enough, nevermind the sight of the actual tornado.
@1:35 sounded like a explosion
Right the crack of that thunder was wicked

Yea, believe it or not, I was well aware. I was glad it was in the path it was in. Missed it by a fraction.

You can hear the roar of it
That's was a horrible night
Did you hear that thunder at 1 minute and 35 seconds into the video ?
Sounded like a building collapsed 1:34
Just a loud clap of thunder.
1:48 perfect view of it
1:47
My gosh, I used to live in Alabama and I feel like that definitely would have been me in the background freaking out lol

Well you need someone like this guy to tell you to chill out. Freaking out won't help in a situation like this.
@@13_cmi yes but neither will standing there and recording it especially while you could be in immediate danger

Yea. At the end of the video, this thing was destroying Eden Bay.
Look at Bremen too
that lightning was close
THAT tornado MORBED
What is the loud sound at around 1:36? Is it the wind or is it thunder? Phenomenal video and commentary by the way
That was thunder.
FUKN UNBELIEVABLE
1:36
Rip your ear drums
Hopefully You All Made It, How Many Children Do You Have How Old, Did You Keep Your Pets Safe
Yes, thanks you. We all made it just fine. And all our pets were safe. We had them with us.

Eddyville/Twin Lakes area. Looking south towards Eden bay.
