I absolutely love Tomi Jenkins vocals. Thank you for being such an intricate part of the band Cameo. Love you.
Rigor Mortis is one of the funkiest jams ever. The horn arrangement is bananas. Kudos to Tomi Jenkins
I remember that 1977 Tour...I was in High School and the roof came of the sucka...!

Nice interview with music singer Tomi Jenkins of Cameo. Cameo, The Jacksons(RIP Michael Jackson), Luther Vandross(RIP), Vanity(RIP), Florence Ballard of The Supremes(RIP), Zapp(RIP Roger Troutman), Midnight Star, R Kelly, Beyonce Knowles are my favorite black music singers. My favorite Cameo albums are Feel Me, Alligator Woman, She's Strange, Single Life, Word Up.
Interesting stuff , the history of Cameo at the beginning from Tomi himself..awsome...there s more about it 1 and its Still Funkyyyy!

Correction: That vocalist was Larry Blackmon. In 1974, the ex-Juilliard student and New York City club-goer instigated a funk band with a membership of 13 called the New York City Players. Blackmon, Tomi Jenkins, and Nathan Leftenant formed the group's nucleus. The Casablanca label signed the group to their Chocolate City offshoot, and shortly after that, the group changed its name to Cameo. Their excellent debut album, 1977's Cardiac Arrest, was highlighted by four singles. Three of those hit the Billboard R&B chart: "Rigor Mortis" (number 33), "Funk Funk" (number 20), and "Post Mortem" (number 70). Although the group was clearly inspired by elder funk groups like Parliament, Funkadelic, and the Ohio Players, Cardiac Arrest made Cameo's case for belonging in the same division an open-and-shut one. Past members include
Tomi Jenkins
Nathan Leftenant
Jeryl Bright
Gregory B. Johnson
Arnett Leftenant
Charlie Singleton
Robert Branch
Kenni Hairston
Michael Burnett
Thomas Campbell
Wayne Cooper
Merve de Peyer
Gary Dow
Eric Durham
Gregory Johnson
Kurt Jeter
John Kellogg
Kevin Kendrick
Damon Mendes
Stephen Moore
William Morris
Eric Nelson
William Revis
Charles Sampson
Robert L. Smith
Melvin Wells
Paul Andrews
Azza Meah
Arnold Ramsey
Dominic Christie
Harold Gander
Pat Buchanan.
Although the group has since split we must not ever forget the original members who put there blood and sweat into the creation of “ Cameo”.
A big fan
Tomi (The voice) Jenkins...Ultimate performer on stage...
I think Tommie Jenkins Wayne Cooper and Anthony Lockett had the best vocal chemistry ever in there day.
Larry Blackman"s wacky voice blended well with all those great vocals.

A funk master in Dayton to promote museum wdtn.com/2016/06/16/a-funk-master-in-dayton-to-promote-museum/ via @WDTN
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Funk Music Hall of Fame and Exhibition Center in Dayton has some big supporters.
Thursday, they hosted a very special guest: funk music legend Gary “Mudbone” Cooper. He has worked with Bootsy Collins, Mick Jagger, Prince and Bono. He is a champion of the museum, and is helping make the Gem City the place to enshrine funk music and its vast contributions.
He joined the CEO of the museum, David Webb, on Five on 2 Thursday to talk about the importance of having the center here.
I would like to know about what happened to Wayne Cooper
Unfortunately Wayne Cooper, who was from Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away from AIDS many years ago. He had a falling out with Larry Blackmon, who was allegedly jealous of his vocal prowess and the thunderous responses he received from audiences. After Wayne, Blackmon took the front because in his view Cameo was his band and no one was going to overshadow him.
I remember Wayne at rehearsals . He was full of life and an outstanding singer. When he sang you could see the audience just rise. Yes his vocals couldn’t be touched by anyone. I was a kid at the time and I remember just that. He always spoke to me with a smile. That’s what I remember about him. He passed with grace and dignity!!!
HOW THE FUNK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD IS FIGHTING TO KEEP ITS LEGACY ALIVE IN DAYTON OHIO!
Stephen StarrJUN 19 2019.
When Dayton’s The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center - aka TheFunkCenter - opened in December 2017, locals delighted in it marrying a proud musical tradition with hope for the revival of a city long down on its luck. Built to celebrate the Ohio city’s reputation as ground zero of the funk world, the center drew volunteers and experts from the Netherlands, Japan and the U.K. and superstar names from Dayton’s 1970s and ’80s funk scene, who pieced together the decades-old instruments, records and memorabilia on display. Tickets to the opening ceremony sold out in days.
