I want this just for the compressor for movie watching. So I don't have to constantly adjust my volume between the action scenes and quiet dialog scenes.
I'm curious if this is a viable alternative to buying a center channel for my current dorm surround 4.1 set up (neighbors get mad when action suddenly breaks out). I'm using a hodge podge of old equipment so this should be able to stand in between the signal to the speakers...right?
I don't need it but I bought it through your link. Now I have excuse to buy more stuff to make it useful. That Minimalism documentary I watched was shit. We need stuff so we can get more stuff!
Just an update received the dbx unit last night and hooked it up this morning. Amazon was crazy fast and got it to me in 1 day even though it was shipped prime for two day. Love stuff that gets delivered on a saturday night. So the jury is in...GREAT BUY, thank you for the recommendation. Running a mac pro into a presonus audiobox itwo with Yamaha HS7's. really love the sub synth and eq. Also run my echo dot through the presonus makes a world of difference. It has really changed the studio monitors from just a video editing station to a kick ass head banging setup when needed.
I bought 2 of em brand new for $29 when they first came out, one can't only imagine why DBX discontinued this awesome low noise unit...If later on in the audio world I may have a 200% come up on the retail price...I'm happy from a stock & collectors point of view because these brand new units are still in the original box lol!
Mine just showed up today. The Sub Synth is incredible on my HR824s. I'll probably be using this on my HTPC though, bypassing my receiver (which I'm literally just using as a volume control - HDMI to the TV, optical from the TV to a DAC, to the receiver for volume control, then to an Emotiva XPA-2 amp). This will let me keep a balanced signal path, too. Thanks for the recommend. Hell, I might buy another one.
Thanks for the recommendation. Purchased within an hour of you posting. After some Mad Max: Fury Road and some music I can say that for 29$ this thing is pretty boss. If it only operated as a volume control for monitor it would still be worth it. Throw in the sub synth and EQ I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. Sub Synth really does wonders for low end on my lsr305s. For movie watching running sub synth cranked to its max at 99 didn't take away all that much from the rest of the range and really made the action scenes in Mad Max a lot more impressive. For hip hop It was also a noticeable improvement. For 2.0 systems I couldn't recommend more, cheap and easy.
Yeah I got two more. I noticed in my Buchardts it added a slight low echo to vocals but only above 50% effect. Could be the speakers being amazing allowing me to perceive it however.
Just now getting around to watching the review, but saw the deal and ran out and purchased one. WHAT A STEAL for $30! Love your review's keep em coming! That subsynth is no joke really rocks my house now!
I grabbed it, I had a $15 amazon gift card to use, so only cost me around $14 ^^ will go nicely with my monoprice 5" powered studio monitor speakers, cheers mate
Hey man! Nice review dying to get one here in Argentina, I need it to kill mic feedback, I saw another review like really working out, have you try that? Maybe can do an small video on that mode, please! Thanks man! Keep the good work.
When this video came out last week, within one hrs I ordered it, I had an idea connecting this between my dac and headphone amp, and then I used sub synth and EQ for my various headphones... gotta say, my hd800 has more bass now..
The only reason to use this would be for the effects, that is unless you really only intended to use it as a volume control. In that case you can bypass the processor. For 29$ it's actually a pretty good volume control for monitors. Also I haven't noticed any added noise over my probably 5 hours of use. For 2.0 systems its actually a pretty good supplement to the low end with the sub synth option. Very noticeable.
2023 and I just bought one used but in mint condition. Paid $125 and will use for my live venues with Mackie 12A Thumps and vocals, hoping to use the anti-feedback feature
I just bought one and I havent even bought my powered monitors yet... You just sold me and saved me like 30ish bucks from buying a control freak/sys... Still having a hard time deciding between the airmotiv 6 and Vanatoo T1... And the damn Adam F5 possibly getting attention... Powered speakers are hard to pick...
You try putting this thing in between a DAC and headphone AMP? I don't get why you would plug a mic or guitar straight into it. I wonder if you can plug a guitar head amp into it then go out into powered monitors instead of into a cab.
For that reason. One of the diagrams showed the 3.5mm input playing from a phone while a microphone and Electric guitar were in the two inputs. Since it will sum mono if need be for those and maintain stereo from the 3.5. It is super versitile.
It would be great if you could do a video comparing headphones in generall like open back vs closed back and sorta like buying guide Don't know if you have already done it
I just bought these for my JVC HA SZ2000 ... I CAN'T wait to hear these cans rattle. I have the SMSL M200 DAC and the SP200 AMP. They do NOT deliver a lot of bass to shake these cans, so this will more than solve it!!!!
I bought two of these to mess with, cheap enough to have some fun with. Would the sub synth work for subwoofers? I have a sealed svs sub that can get down to 20 hz, I'm wondering if the sub synth could lower this to hit those evasive 16-17 is notes. Worst case scenario I'll use it as a volume control on my subs so I don't have to reach around to the gain.
OK. So I bought it based on your review. Seeing your studio, monitors and all gear. I figured you know the sound quality. After connecting it between my A&H Xone DB2 mixer and my powered speakers with powered sub I can clearly say - sound quality suffers. Sound is more flat and lacks depth and stereo image. Basically you can hear inviable curtain of sound processing over my A&H pure, clear, breathy sound. It might be cool to have it with me when i DJ somewhere on crappy but not in the studio. Clarity suffers and clarity is most important for me in my set up. Little disappointed to be hones with this box. I checked sound resolution of this box before purchase and it seems pretty decent but wa all know all boxes are basically sound cards and sound quality in all sound cards differ a lot. This on is OK. Is hard to beat my A&H mixer soundcard. Well... I'll use it on the road as smal backup rack system. For this money is still good investment.
and I kinda surprised that nobody mentions sound quality of this box anywhere. It's good, don't get me wrong. It's not pristine however. Don't expect miracles or pure clarity form such small box.
See just like me (well not really I have three) but you have to judge entirely off one unit. Perhaps yours has a specific issue? I never noticed any real discernible loss.
quote from serato forum: "I ran my soundcraft console console left channel straight to my speaker and the right channel through gorack and then into speaker. There was a noticeable loss of quality when music was played to both speakers side by side." I tested it more today in my studio and I can definitely say that sound transparency IS affected. Like plastic invisible foil put over sound. Obviously you will get all perks of DBX processing but it takes form sound depth. I found sub synth to be not necessary for my sub (gets muddy over 10 percent). Compression is nice to have (around 30) and eq is fine as well but I can hear it working. I know my speakers well so I can say when they try to hard with additional eq. Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars. In Europe is 80 Euro plus shipping so no discount here. To sum it up. Good smal box of tricks for good money. Good to keep it handy when you gig outside studio. For venues with just bare naked PA. I would keep it outside my studio though. 4/5. Good product. I wish there would be something similar in future with pristine sound quality, and more processing options, in similar small portable package, designed maybe more for DJ's (PA's). I would pay 200 bucks for something better. My search continues. PS> Thank you for this review and for finding this box for me :)
Thanks for actualy reading this. Let me just write what I mean as I was unclear. I. Fucking. Love. This. Fucking. Review! #greatness (and, yes I bought the box!) Great job, dude! Very entertaining! (I do wish your mic had been able to fully capture the full range of the sub-synth.)

Yes. It is currently the absolute best. It takes a lot of configuration, but once you get it under control it'll outdo anything really. It's got a massive community behind it as well.

Maybe cheer you up a bit, it is £125.44+ £30.00 delivery in UK so about 200 dollars :( also Amazon USA does not ship for this for UK so you still got a bargain compared to what UK can get :)
You can pick them up on ebay, shipping worldwide :D www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DBX-goRack-go-rack-mini-driverack-pa2-pa-plus-version-Signal-Processor-Rack-NEW-/381866358986?hash=item58e90238ca:g:pgUAAOSwA3dYPM8-
Hi Z,I need your help if you have the time.I need a good pair of headphones and have tried the new Bose® - QuietComfort® 35 and was not pleased with the amount of money I spent on them($350) for the quality of sound.I actually compared them to my 30 dollar headphones that I had from amazon. The amazon pair was way better but not durable. After returning my pair of bose I'm now seeking something new that will basically leave me speechless from the clarity of sound that I can hear since I'm not a big fan of base.I prefer over the ear and thank you if you reply.
Assuming open Back, AD1000x [amzn.to/2gvgjVD].. If you want closed you honestly can try the M40x for cheap and just get those amazing pads for them. [ua-cam.com/video/X6wBv03B1nk/v-deo.html]
Can you use the DBX Go Pro with an XLR Microphone to record my voice onto a computer? Will this device allow you to record audio via a pc sound card? Can I use the DBX Pro to get audio onto a computer with a 3.5 mic and a pc sound card. Is this possible?
This might seem random but I need some new opinions, I don't give a shit about looks, comfort, or wires just simply which would sound nicer in a setup where I play forza, other car games and listen to music. Hifiman he-400s headphones or jbl lsr350 speakers?
Does it matter if you set the Individual Left/Right Nub to Max or Middle then Adjust Volume with the Volume Nub? Or should I Set the Volume to 70 then adjust it Individually. I'm confuse.
Either way is fine. I usually adjust the L/R first to as loud as you can before the indicators blink then see if the volume is good. If it gets REALLY LOUD at like 30 volume I lower the individual controls.
unrelated question:do you know why when i connect my m40s to the monitor they are twice as powerfull as to when i connect them to the pc??i thought the hdmi cable only transferred sound and image so the it should have been the same volume
This solves all problems I haven't had yet... Ordered.
It worked I watched right after you published the video and I bought it from your link as soon as I finished. "You had me at Subharmonic Synthesis"

Yo! How does this improve your Echo Dot? Just got one for Christmas, and am picking one of these up soon. Thanks!
I have a test in 7 hours and you just had to go and keep me from sleeping.

if I had money, really needed this and Amazon shipped to Australia I would buy 2

I bought two more!
I was absolutely Fucken scared. video loaded in 144l, thought that was a Macbook, phew
And where's the problem in that?
well one could argue that they arent worth the price they cost

Oct 1 2017 two on Amazon 215 and 322 dollars . That is the Z effect ! Love you man !
I'm giving a thumbs up for the nujbes
Don't have powered monitors....but I bought one anyway. Great salesmanship.
Get XLR to RCA adapters and you can use them with a normal amp and speakers.
Thanks for the recommendation. Purchased within an hour of you posting. After some Mad Max: Fury Road and some music I can say that for 29$ this thing is pretty boss. Z Reviews no, I notice echo in vocals on my L300s and dt770s and x2s and ti300s, some all the way down to 9 out of 99
Damn you Z, I have no need for this but I just bought it anyway...the Zeos effect is strong with this one.
Yes.. BUY THIS.. DO DRUGS.. STEAL CARS.. PET CAT..
OMG it's like you know my life...
Just now getting around to watching the review, but saw the deal and ran out and purchased one. WHAT A STEAL for $30! Love your review's keep em coming! That subsynth is no joke really rocks my house now!
It's on the way....... Thanks.....
sweeet! I'm gonna use this to mix my echo dot into my system :D
I grabbed it, I had a $15 amazon gift card to use, so only cost me around $14 ^^ will go nicely with my monoprice 5" powered studio monitor speakers, cheers mate
i just ordered one :)
Hey man! Nice review dying to get one here in Argentina, I need it to kill mic feedback, I saw another review like really working out, have you try that? Maybe can do an small video on that mode, please! Thanks man! Keep the good work.
got this sucker for Christmas. was playing with the sub synth and noticed that Z's voice activates it. very interesting
Deep vocals on non-music can reach the point of subsynth.
wow, you can FEEL those lows in Rolling, by Soul Coughing....nice Mr. Z
Good find! I just scored an open box unit for $26.
When this video came out last week, within one hrs I ordered it, I had an idea connecting this between my dac and headphone amp, and then I used sub synth and EQ for my various headphones... gotta say, my hd800 has more bass now..
CHEWBACCA RAGE MODE FTW!!!!
Similar to Luxan Hyper Rage.
Pick up the dbx 120a has a more advanced subharmonic. You can pick the hz you want drop and for how deep, not it volume. Plus has sub output.
Seems like an unnecessary extra DAC-filter in the signal chain. Unless you really want the effects.
The only reason to use this would be for the effects, that is unless you really only intended to use it as a volume control. In that case you can bypass the processor. For 29$ it's actually a pretty good volume control for monitors.

I just saw the monoprice planer magmatic headphone! I can wait for your feedback on those. I just purchased them ......
Great.. just wish the pads were bigger.
All those headphones... The reviews are coming
winter is coming
i'm more impressed that you have a mayo chiki wallpaper
when is the monitor audio bronze 2 review coming up? cant wait for it...
But you will.... YOU WILL.
2021and I've owned it since this video and it is an amazing piece of kit @10x the price .
2023 and I just bought one used but in mint condition. Paid $125 and will use for my live venues with Mackie 12A Thumps and vocals, hoping to use the anti-feedback feature
a day later and.....they are still NOT SOLD OUT! Come on people! LISTEN to ZEOS and BUY ALL OF THESE like he said! LOL!
All I have to say is get this ... for the $ it can't be beat!!!! Using it with my S.M.S.L M3, JBL 305's and it works great!!!!!
HE1000 and Ether C Flow this is going to be a good Christmas oh and monorice monoliths
Will you review the Sennheiser GSX 1000? I'm guessing there mostly gimmicky but the brand name makes me think it could be more.
does the jotunheim have line out capabilities over rca, and are you going to be doing a review about it anytime soon :-)?
It has pre-outs only. Nothing fixed. ua-cam.com/video/vDvGNMUwOkI/v-deo.html
Hey sexy desks and organization
How times change. $274 effing dollars on Amazon.
Bought mine at launch too .when it went to 29 wish I would have bought 10 of them for resale
are those the purple hearts hanging out in the background. did you buy those or are they loaners?
That whole table is loaners.
What are your thoughts on lower end Audio Technica headphones, such as the ATH-AVC400?
I ordered.
Could we get a quick sound demo of the bass synth? Interested to hear it.
At some point.

this working good for dj?
I just bought these for my JVC HA SZ2000 ... I CAN'T wait to hear these cans rattle. I have the SMSL M200 DAC and the SP200 AMP. They do NOT deliver a lot of bass to shake these cans, so this will more than solve it!!!!
There is only one of these left now, at $28. The Z Review was a massive signal boost it seems.
Zeos, have you ever heard The Bridge theme from Wolfenstein The New Order? It would be a nice one to add to you sound demos!
Plenty of Ebay-Sellers that ship to Europe. Got it for $55 including shipping to Norway.
Now it's time to buy some Xlr to 3.5mm cables with a spliter.
Z, are you gonna do something special for your 500th video? If UA-cam wasn't lying, this video was your 499th.
He has had HE1000s for quite some time and now he has MrSpeakers Ether C. So maybe a big headphone review coming up soon?
Hrm.. 500th video.
I wasn't even counting.
SVS is finally shipping the Ultra 16. :X)
surprised that there was a mayo chiki wallpaper...good choice
I bought two of these to mess with, cheap enough to have some fun with. Would the sub synth work for subwoofers? If you feed the rack full signal it will work with the subs.
Z Reviews definitely going to mess around with that when I get them, thanks for the reply.
?can we get a review of the top wireless sports earbuds
you should be able to get the price matched.
OK. So I bought it based on your review. Seeing your studio, monitors and all gear. I figured you know the sound quality.

PS> Thank you for this review and for finding this box for me :)
What cables would you use to connect it from a TEAC AI-101DA?
I assume "RCA to TS" that you linked or something else?
From.... ? What are you doing with this? You feeding its output to the line in of the 101da? I think you will need a bunch of converters..
Thanks for actualy reading this.
Let me just write what I mean as I was unclear.
Source (Computer) >>USB>> TEAC AI-101DA >>RCA(?)_XLR>> dbx GoRack >>XLR>> Active monitors (Probably Emotiva Airmotiv5)
But it sounds like my lack of knowledge and inexperience in this field got it all wrong.
I understand that I wont be able to connect the TEAC output (speaker output) into the dbx input.
Thanks for being here for us, you actualy got me into this due to your superb review quality.
I. Fucking. Love. This. Fucking. Review! #greatness (and, yes I bought the box!) Great job, dude! Very entertaining! (I do wish your mic had been able to fully capture the full range of the sub-synth.)
Anything like this that's new?
hey, that's the Amanchu soundtrack I hear!
I dont even need one. but shit zeos, you made it sound so god damn sexy i bought one

Jotunheim! Reminds me, any recommendations for an XLR cable for the HD600's that isn't half a grand?

Sure, split the Modi's output and boom.
So I'll want to hook this up to a DAC and a turntable to use as a pre amp for a power amp, is there some kind of switch box I can buy, or can I just use the AUX as a second input?
Would a Gorack + LSR305 combo beat out the Vanatoo T1?
Vanatoo's are a bit more.

i use AIMP atm, i'll give it a try then :) thanks
No worries. Watch Z's tutorial on it if you get lost. It's pretty damn complicated.
Take a look at the various plugins too.
correct me if I'm wrong... but does this mean I don't need a receiver with pre out's, if I have a say Beringer 500? and one of these? of course with powers speakers.
Well depending on your source.. You can use this to control the A500. You still need at least an analog signal to start with.
How do you scrub with the keyboard in foobar2000?
Can I connect the outputs of the DBX GoRack to inputs on my Emotiva BasX A-100 to control the volume of the amp - using XLR to RCA cables?
Sounds like a great device. But what if I have Nupro A200s? They have build in Dac, volume control and no xlr. Do i stell need it? And if so, how do I manage to use it in this case? Thanks

cool thanks!
Could you wire a turntable to the dbx GoRack?
After a pre-amp you can.
Good with Vanatoo's?
Eh. They can use it if you use their AUX in.
You are a god ,thank you!!
Can you use the DBX Go Pro with an XLR Microphone to record my voice onto a computer? Will this device allow you to record audio via a pc sound card? Can I use the DBX Pro to get audio onto a computer with a 3.5 mic and a pc sound card. Is this possible?
I don't know. It still only has XLR outputs so unless you have a digital recording interface it doesn't help in this reguard.
This might seem random but I need some new opinions, I don't give a shit about looks, comfort, or wires just simply which would sound nicer in a setup where I play forza, other car games and listen to music. Hifiman he-400s headphones or jbl lsr350 speakers?
LSR305's are more comfortable. And I am bias towards speakers.
So instead of using onboard sound if can get a 3.5 to quarter inch from my pc to the mixer then i get a 3.5 to xxlr cable for my headphones right?
no? This is just a DSP and pre-amp, not a dac or amp. So it won't power your headphones.
no anymore it is now $250 @ amazon
u got rob!!!!
Ive owned these for four years and I pretty sure I've been running in mono mode this whole time...
What song is that playing at 11:24? It sounds catchy.
Sorry, can't tell.
...really? Is it a secret? Nevermind, don't worry about it. Thanks for the video.
Found it! I knew it must be a Champloo song: Aruarian Dance.
so if i own the vanatoo t1s, that means i can't be using this device? (no XLR input) is there another option? Thanks.
I haven't tested it with XLR to RCA adapters yet. If it did work you could hook it up. [amzn.to/2gSBZeG]
let me hear it bro,you talking to mch
Right now Im sending ISIS to Z's residence to get that HE-1000 review
unrelated question:do you know why when i connect my m40s to the monitor they are twice as powerfull as to when i connect them to the pc??i thought the hdmi cable only transferred sound and image so the it should have been the same volume
HDMI is signal only. The monitor has its own built in amp. I imagine it wont be very clean reguardless of the power output.
Z Reviews oh thanks its not bad better than the shit my pc has but i think i will get the m3 dac/amp to get the best quality out of the headphones
