instead of hedging with the underlying I hedge using options on the opposite side. For example if in a call short increases in delta I approach or increase the put on the other side. I think it's the same thing
That is perfectly fina and makes sense! You can delta hedge a call with a put (long or short) if one position has negative delta and the other has positive delta
