Caretakers aren't given enough love and credit, it's hard out here. I get it, I did with my mom for a year. She's much better now but was stressful af at the time! Make sure you have a good therapist and somewhere to release that stress. Also having assistance so you can make time for friends or a few minutes away helps your own mental health. As a parent, I just think at every point in their life, you’re going to feel the same way until they’re off on their own. There’s never going to be “the right” time because we will always hold the importance of our kids lives to the same standard and taking ourselves “away” from that at any point in their adolescence, is where the parent guilt comes from. Whether it’s for one night of fun with a sitter while they’re young, or working for weeks straight in their teens. The consistency of always having your parent in reach over anything would be the most important imo.
Shot out to all the parents. Check in with your family and ask them individually what they need. It’s an awesome thing to hear “nothing you’re doing great” but you may hear a laundry list of complaints. Be open to the feedback and be honest with yourself AND them about the changes you can make to help the relationship and family grow in a positive direction. Recalibrating often helps to get in front of disasters. And you never know what people may need if you don’t ask.

You're constantly trying to find the balance and before you know it a years is gone, then two, then three; some things do fall through the cracks and there is no solution to that, you just take each day as it comes and constantly try to find that balance. Man, you guys could do a whole episode breaking down the dating/social scene nowadays. The differences in other times (dating apps vs the internet of the early 200s, and before internet), the obstacles that occur to make it worse, etc. The hard part would be keeping Mal or Demaris calm during it lol.

I think the whole "options" part of the discussion is just a matter of implication vs confirmation. Living with an implication is easier bc there's still room for some deniability. I'd imagine it alleviates some of the preceived pressure to "compete" that comes with confirmation. Room to protect the ego, avoid projection, etc.
