- Sweet Sable (born Ceybil Jefferies from Brooklyn, New York) was an R&B, hip-hop, and house music singer, also known as Sybil Jefferies, Sable Jefferies or just Ceybil. In 1991 she released her debut album "Let the Music Take Control". On the album with the club classic song "Love So Special" which was also the first & only single to be taken from the album... A very catchy song with a great beat, hard base and excellent vocals. After many successful years as a house diva, she reinvented herself as a new jack swing R&B singer named Sweet Sable in the early 1990's, but eventually returned to house music as Ceybil Jefferies.
In 1994, Cebyl resurfaced under the name "Sweet Sable" and released her debut album "Old Times' Sake" on Street Life Records. The title song (which was featured on the "Above the Rim" movie soundtrack) peaked at #93 on the Billboard Hot 100, #43 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #15 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. The second single from the album "Tonight" peaked at #45 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks. The last single from the album "Love Thang" peaked at #74 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks.
Back to her real name, Ceybil Jefferies continued to work as a vocalist on several house music songs throughout the late 90s/early 2000s. Her last known solo song was "Thank U For Blessing" in 2004 and she apparently went on to sing gospel music. Sybil Jefferies was grateful and overwhelmed with joy for all the fans and DJ's that have kept her music alive through the years.
It was reported that Ceybil contracted neurosarcoidosis several years ago which rendered her completely blind. Ceybil passed away on April 9, 2020 after being diagnosed with COVID-19 that was complicated by her 20 year battle with Neurosarcoidosis . She is survived by her mother, husband (Anthony), her daughter (Angelique) her son (Antonio) and sister (Sabrina).

I remember back in 91 they played this record on the college radio station in New Brunswick NJ Rutgers cause mainstream radio stations didn’t want to play deep house music. I jammed this loud in my car! Miss those days miserably 😔
I met Ceybil in the mid 90s and she was mad cool. She came over to my friend's recording studio in Jersey City with Nikki Nicole and we worked on putting a new track together. Unfortunately nothing ever happened but the whole time I kept thinking how legendary she was because I used to spin this joint all through my high school days!
Did you get any recordings from the tracks you worked on with them 🧐
@@craighodgson4060 not that I know of
It would be great great to hear some demo reel track's from her in the underground recording studios back.in the day 💥 they must of been more 💕
