In this week's video, we look at bringing some of the monochromatic tonal qualities from the Ripley series into your own images via Adobe Color and Gradient masks in Adobe Photoshop to create presets.
Hope you find the video useful and thanks for watching :)

If a TV show ever deserved the Every Frame a Painting brand of approval, it's RIPLEY.
Great choice for B&W, and thanks for showing this technique, this is an eye opener
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching😁👍
Blown away. Thank you Gary! This is a ton of fun! I did this with one of my favorite black and whites and created my own preset. WOW.
Glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Very nice tutorial Gary! Thank you for your teachings. That movie is truly awesome :)
It's a fantastic series isn't it. I would've loved to have been on set for that one. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Cool, thanks! I actually had no idea about the Adobe Color tools, now I do! 🙂
It's a great free resource. Thanks for watching 😁👍
What a great idea! As I usually work mostly in Camera Raw I haven't worked with gradient maps in the past. I will definitely give this a try.
plain and simple - it can be so easy, thanks for sharing
Totally. So beautiful. Some scenes made me gasp!
Fantastic! Thank you so much for this excellent video!
Thanks for watching. Glad you found it useful😁👍
Brilliant, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Victor. Glad you enjoyed it 😁👍
This is a fantastic channel. Wish I had found it sooner. Thanks for your great videos.
Many thanks for the comment. Glad you're enjoying the videos😁👍
Thank you for sharing the technique
Yup: tried it out and learnt how subtle the tones are. Thanks.
Well you made that look easy😊 Thanks again for another informative video. And the series was amazing watched it a few weeks ago 😊
Fantastic series wasn’t it. Thanks again for watching Diane😁👍
mamma mia! this is great! thak you for sharing!
Just watched ep 1....Stunning
Great isn't it. 😁👍
Great tips! thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it 😁👍
Wonderful! Thank you so much for showing this technique. One question: once I've copied the color them to my library, how do I use it in an adjustment layer?
Excellent work Gary
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it😁👍
The difference between Ripley and pretty much every other thing turned into black and white, this series was actually shot for black and white.
Stoating stuff I didn't know you could do this. I keep getting drawn to B&W more and more and have been trying to refine my own work for a wee while, this could be a great help thanks. I have just been introduce to the work of Francis Meadow Sutcliffe exquisite.
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. Many moons ago when I was a picture framer his prints were the best selling in the shop😁👍
Could you comment on how one imports the hex numbers as a group to photoshop from adobe color?
Really enjoyed your presentation, Thanks
Gary - in adobe color do you extract theme or extract gradient please? When I import it and save to my library it doesn't apply to the image. Tried double clicking it - ensured background layer wasn't locked. Really kinda stumped trying to do this. Tried it manually like you did also but the "your presets" option wasn't there. God PS frustrates me sometimes lol
Great video Gary thank you. What format do you save as a preset on Adobe Color and where do you import or open the file?
Awesome. You mind sharing your preset
Interessante Methode! Und was für ein drolliger Akzent! Ist das Schottisch?
Great tutorial! I’m definitely gonna use this technique a lot. Did you use it for your video? In other words; would this apply to Premiere Pro as well?
Glad you enjoyed it and yes I applied one of them to the video as a cube file. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Is it possible any any chance to download these presets from you? :)
Can't get to that app. Adobe insists on Adobe Express, which looks nothing like what you show. Even when I enter the url you show, I get to Adobe Express.
It was great wasnt it , very inspiring
Totally, every frame. 😁👍
One challenge is capturing an image from Netflix when content is protected. Ordinary screenshots come out black. There are workarounds for most browsers but I didn't see one for Safari on MacOS. Any secrets?
Thanks for watching. I just did a web search for Ripley images. Hope that helps😁👍
I just tried it with "snag-it" on my macbook, no problem at all.
Take a picture of the screen with your camera 😊
For example:

Hi Gary, How to get the data on the right-hand side of the screen, would it be your own picture. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. Yes you can use your own or any image. You simply drag it onto the space on Adobe color website😁👍
Are you going to sell your Ripley presets?
I've still quite a few more to create from the series, so hadn't thought of selling. Thanks for watching 😁👍
@@GaryMcIntyrePhotographer 'd be interested. Love the Ripley style, but cannot take Netflix screenshot to use as the example. Would be very interested if you could make available- Thanks!
Story is just meh, but the cinemotography was amazing. It is oscar worthy
Every scene 😁👍
@@GaryMcIntyrePhotographer Spent the entire movie looking at leading lines, placement and compositions.
Great visuals, everything else is pure dog turd, from the casting, the acting etc, watch with sound off at all times
'Scuse me bloke, what is that language you're toiking?? Did all teachers in school talk that way? Or was it homeschooling? Sounds like...
