Great walkthrough! I haven’t seen too many other videos that go this in depth! I am also really disappointed to learn about the weird black frame between switching between inputs and scenes, that’s a real bummer!
Thanks! Yeah, I was disappointed by that too... I wonder if they did that to differentiate it from their more "pro" (expensive) offerings... Hoping it gets fixed in firmware, but who knows if that's even possible...
please answer me this question, it is possible to send the sound mix and voice effects to a dslr or mirrorless camera to record video with that sound connecting it to the microphone input??.... thank You!!
If I’m gonna use my gopro hero 5, hero 7 and canon dslr 6d, do I still need elgato camlink or I can directly connect these cameras with only hdmi cables? Is it also limit the background music like a/c, pc fans etc? Thanks.
If you purchase the Roland vr-1hd make sure you order the usb 3 (usb stream) cable with it or you will not be able to record your videos. It connects from the machine to your computer. They do not sell this cable here in town, I had to order it. (It should come with the machine it is only a ten dollar cable.)
@@dennispeaks Canon Vixia HF R800 About a 200.00 camera great beginner camera, with hdmi hook up and you can remove the icons from showing on your video.
It only brings one video feed into OBS at a time, you can't access multiple cameras at once in OBS unless you use the Roland's splitscreen or picture-in-picture functions. I hope that helps!
Great demo video - thank you. I have just ordered one and was wondering if the USB "super-speed" cable is included. If not, which kind is recommended to connect the usb to my computer for streaming? Thanks again!
I am testing up a similar setup and have two questions: 1.) How are you actually recording any of this? I know this is a great tool for live streaming, but you (obviously) recorded all of the onboard features without any native recording capabilities. 2.) I have that same Panasonic camera; were you able to turn off the mic? Since the camera is plugged in via HDMI it's bringing in the onboard mic sound that is conflicting with my mics plugged in via XLR. I'm guessing you routed your mics directly into your cams?
Hi, if I want to record 4K video from my cameras, could I connect the Roland's main output to a 4k Elgato card and keep the 4k resolution? Or will the Roland VR-1HD downgrade the signal to 1080p merely for going through the Roland? Thanks!
How do you like the Sony ax53's with this Roland? I have a SOny a6400 and was thinking about getting the AX53 as well to upgrade from a old Sony xr520. I am glad they released a update for green screen.
I intend to use this with OBS, my only goal is to remove stress from the computer (I have a mac with a not very powerful graphic card). Will that work? Thanks
Yes, it should since the computer will only need to deal with one video stream coming in over USB, and it won't have to deal with the switching or splitscreen effects either.
Is it possible to use all 3 hdmi for cameras and still be able to do a PIP with your computer screen from the output? I'm very new to this and no one has been able to answer this question.
Now that it’s been nearly two years has any of the firmware that you mentioned been addressed by the company? I thoroughly agree with your points on when it flashes between transitions on inputs. Hopefully now that it’s been two years since you addressed this in your most helpful video they may have updated these and other issues through firmware updates. Just a curious guy looking for equipment for my podcast studio - thanks for any input or advice
I was looking at the roadcaster pro and then found the Roland V-1HD Portable 4 x HDMI Input Switcher which led me to you and the automatic switching if I am doing a podcast and want to simplify things. How do you think this would work for Zoom meetings?
Does anyone know of a video mixer with Digital Zoom built in? I am looking to set the camera lens for close-up and be able to zoom back from there, or vice-versa.
Xsplit or obs combined with the gato stream deck and a sound mixer are a lot cheaper and they got a lot more features than this $1500 video switcher 😒🤦♂️
Newbie question. A streaming mixer (like this) just used to pull in multiple feeds. But to get it to UA-cam, you would still need either (1) a streaming device like the Monarch, or else (2) a laptop with OBS or Wirecast? Are these streaming devices that can also pull in a few HDMI or smartphone feeds?
What a great overview. Thank you, sir. Seems like the price is now $1,000. I'm not complaining. :) I'm guessing you will think that's about the right price, or even a deal?
It's not bad, especially considering you won't need video capture cards in your computer for each of your cameras, saving you anywhere from $300 to $600 depending on the capture cards you go with. The setup without capture cards is far less complex than trying to sort that out in software such as OBS, and less overhead on the computer.
Great review, can you please do a comparison video between Roland VR1 HD vs Atem Mini. I am new to all these equipments and confused, my plan is to start a podcast with multiple camera setup.
first off Joe Rogan isn't using this. Secondly, if you want to give people justice is getting help with things like this, don't refer them to Amazon for technical gear. Tell them to go to Roland and source out a local dealer that is better suited to provide them the unit and some good instruction knowledge on it.
Best review of this product I've seen so far. I'll buy it because of this video!
EXCELLENT review. Great job. Super thorough. Everything I could have asked for.

I hope that screen switcher detail is fixed. I have to test. I just purchased one yesterday.
Oh man- you have saved me hours and hours of looking for how to do this! Great episode- SUBSCRIBED!
How does this compare to the black magic TV studio?
Great review I already bought one and this helped me understand it better thanks!
Very useful review. As if there is a new one, Roland V-1HD+. Have seen this? Can be able to review and compare? Thanks

Great review, thank you for posting! Looking at this for streaming music performances. This was the most in-depth review I've seen of this so far.
How can I add a third xlr microphone?
Mike Gunner Podcast, you can use a external mixer connected to the RCA inputs!
If I’m gonna use my gopro hero 5, hero 7 and canon dslr 6d, do I still need elgato camlink or I can directly connect these cameras with only hdmi cables? Is it also limit the background music like a/c, pc fans etc? Thanks.
No need for a camlink if you're using this mixer - it'll act as the capture card to bring video into OBS and other apps.

I have Rodecaster Pro and I don't know what to do now ☹️
I was going to get the Rodecaster Pro too until I found this.
Great walk through. Many thanks. Bit expensive for UA-camr budget. But could be time saver.

Does this do POP?
You want to go to 7:09
How about multimonitor output? is it not missing? I miss a lot.

Fantastic review answered all my pre-purchase questions - thank you for a concise and informative video
Excellent review sir
great video! too bad the ATEM Mini Pro made this obselete. Would you agree?
How to podcast when there is only 1 headphone out? In addition does the port help to amp the headphone?
you can get a HM-4 (4 way headphone amplifier) It has 4 inputs and vol. controls.
🎉I learned a lot.
How do you calibrate the microphones? I can not make the option of "Video follows audio" work yet. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.
did you ever figure out how to get video to follow audio yet and calibrate the mics? What cameras are you using?
Can anyone tell me the best way to record from this machine?
This thing is great, as is your review. Compared to a Rodcaster and a Blackmaglc ATEM MINI ISO. This is a better choice.

Can I use this with the podcaster pro

Wait a second, what if it’s a video podcast with four people. Four microphones. The audio switcher is not gonna work
Lmk if you find an answer to that
you can green screen...
Just buy a capture card and free software can do all this better.

Well, no choice on the price, this looks like a kids toy for 950 usd so sad
