    I caught a walleye in 2001 in between georgina and Thorah islands in 40 feet of water. We didn't have a scale so we weighed it we got back to Michigan 2 days later and it came in at a whopping 14 pounds. After I pulled it out of the hole I was shaking so bad like I shot the biggest Buck in my life. By far the biggest walleye I've ever caught.

    • @SteelFisher
      @SteelFisher 4 роки тому

      @@MatthewMazFishing That's not true. Wally's were always natural to Simcoe. When I was a kid my grandparents would take me to see them at their spawning grounds in the spring and it was just black with them like Lake O tribs with salmon. They knew where the fish were because my Grandma had grown up nearby. Like any run of fish with a centralized limited spawning ground, they were easily overfished. There has been a limited stocking program to try to preserve what left of the stock. It was cancelled due to MNR budget cuts. Also partly because natural numbers were so limited females from the natural stock were hard to find and more valuable left to natural reproduction.

If you go to local bait shops, they often have good intel, or i’d suggest hiring a guide. We have lots of amazing guides on lake simcoe who have an extremely large amount of information not only on how to find fish, but on how to make them eat. The amount of knowledge you can gain is insane and in my opinion, worth the money if you’re struggling.

    Pro Tip: If you want to release a trophy fish and ensure that it survives, DON'T hang it vertically by its neck/gills. Imagine being lifted up by a giant who is holding you with one of his fingers right underneath your jaw and the weight of your entire body is being hung off your jaw/neck......
