It's great to know they haven't changed the names. I haven't been on a Navy vessel in over 50 years & still remember what I've learned in boot camp. I've never seen a grand ladder or grand stairway on a U.S. Navy ship. No more buttkits or buttcans for cigarette butts & ashes. There's always been ladders at high angles with a water tight hatch at each deck or overhead. .
Oh Kevin! You brought so many memories of my Dad, USN, WWII, back to mind! The word Geedunk was used often in my house growing up. Also, he used to wake us up with “all hands hit the deck”! Thanks for this.
@@30AndAWakeUp he would tell us to move our geedunk, aka junk food or junk, from the kitchen table. He served on the USS Biscayne, a sea plane tender. He had many great stories and loved to tell them.

Enjoyed the video Kev. I go into Sailor mode when I cruise too. Underway (set sail). Gangway is the brow. Ensign is the American flag. On leave is vacation. And how about these, not quite nautical but more slang. Sailor (squid), Army (grunt), Marine (jarhead), Coast Guard (coastie). Have a great day! 100k and climbing!
My Grandfather fought in WWI in the Yankee Division and saw action in 4 major battles and was gassed. He then joined the Navy in WWII and fought in the Pacific.
