- After a rain-lashing yesterday, Wednesday in Barcelona was a very different prospect although for Alinghi Red Bull Racing, NYYC American Magic, Orient Express Racing Team, and Athena Pathway, they all had to be patient and choose their sailing areas carefully. The persistent and slow-moving Atlantic high that is gradually filtering in with wide isobars is the transition to summer that the locals talk about with Barcelona capable of serving up rain, wind, and then flat calms - all in a few minutes.

American magic has the best concept out of the water for me losing plenty of windage. Unfortunately for them it's going to be foil design and wind conditions that decides the cup. There should be one team clearly faster in higher winds (good high wind foils) and one or two teams that go in marginal conditions. I don't think any recon or analysis will give the answer until racing begins.

Alinghi have so far always looked pitch and altitude unstable. AM doing a good job being right down on the water without getting stuck to it. The Kiwis in their gulf looked the same. Alinghi has good concepts but you can't keep going up and down like that. AM looks fast in isolation.
Alinghi had a much smaller jib on than AM. Alinghi was out of range with the jib, hence the instability.
@@Arms26 I have yet to see a video of them looking stable. I don't understand how the jib selection affects stability but I will take your word that it does.
