Thanks for the vid. Did today my first ever oil change to 350 EXC-F. Vid had no BS, was helpful reference! P.S I layed my bike on the side. No leaking.
Thanks for the helpful and well done video. I'm new to bikes and this helped me out a bunch. Only problem I had was in the placement of the bucket.... the oil shot out and spilled all over the floor for a bit of time....LOL
I am guessing the reason to soak the filter with oil would be so that when you add the engine oil your dry filter is not absorbing some of it and making you run a few CCs lower then you should be.
My owners manual says that you need to tip the bike over on its side and fill up with oil to a third and then reinstall filter. Maybe that's just with the 2017s eh ?
I just checked my manual and mine says to tip over. The exact wording is "Lay the motorcycle on its side and fill the oil filter housing to about 1/3 full with engine oil. Fill the oil filter with engine oil and position the oil filter in the housing."
So those shavings on the drain bolt is normal ? Changed oil on my sxf350 got these shavings on the drain bolt. The oil screen and filter is clean no shavings. Is this something to be concerned about ?
Nelis Muller when my bike was new I had shavings . This is why I change the oil more frequently when a bike is new due to “break in period” (shavings) once everything is smoothed out should have less or no shavings. I started first few oil changes at every 3 hrs then every 5hrs if I remember by 30hrs ish I wasn’t getting any shavings anymore. Still did 5hr intervals. Now I’m at 60hrs and I’ll start doing it every 15hrs.
Just look at that section of the video again, where he shows the oil drain plug and the magnet on it - there you can see an example of a normal amount of metal shavings. The metal comes from the cogs of the gears hitting each other. It's inevitable, and it's designed to function that way.
CR2504life Bro the procedure for changing oil on my ktm 250 2 stroke is the same procedure your doing on your KTM 350SX-F in this video? Also I've heard to get my oil from rockymountainatvmc.com the prices there look pretty good where do you get your oil and oil filter from bro. And why every 10hrs for an oil change. And where did you get you cleaner for your oil screen strainer. I'm thinking of just replacing the oil screen strainer everytime I change the oil and oil filter. And is it alright if the oil is completely full when I check the oil level sorry for all the questions I just purchase my 250ktm 2 stroke last month
djm93 I have the 350, similar procedure to the 250 Im sure. Yeah, buy the oil online because its expensive stuff and its cheaper online. The Motorex oil is necessary because it was developed with KTM. The bearings in the engine have a special coating that requires the special additive in the oil. 10 hour oil changes is what the manual says, its very important so dont skimp out.
The manual says to lay the bike on its side and fill the oil filter housing with oil. If you don’t your engine runs dry until it primes up.

Good video …. I lay my bike on the right side to fill filter chamber😎

Oil filter screws: 10Nm
Oil strainer screw: 15Nm
Drain bolt: 20Nm
Thank me later
What torque wrench do you guys use? I usually only see the spoke wrenches
2015 250xcf-w my manual says oil level check is full when at half of circle or just below. thanks for the vid. going to do my first change soon.
I am guessing the reason to soak the filter with oil would be so that when you add the engine oil your dry filter is not absorbing some of it and making you run a few CCs lower then you should be.
For the filter i just bent a medium paperclip 📎 to a small hook 🪝 on the end and it worked fine.🤘
Shouldn't you run the engine a bit before checking final oil level? I would assume that some will end up in the filter.
Not only that the oil covers the surface area of the inside. I think it's best if you do run the engine.
My owners manual says that you need to tip the bike over on its side and fill up with oil to a third and then reinstall filter.
Maybe that's just with the 2017s eh ?
I have a 2017 250 SX-F does this vide pretty much cover what I need to do? Did you tip the bike over on its side?
I just checked my manual and mine says to tip over. The exact wording is "Lay the motorcycle on its side and fill the oil filter housing to about 1/3 full with engine oil. Fill the oil filter with engine oil and position the oil filter in the housing."
I use an old tire to tip my bike on to, so it doesn't get scratched, also holds it at a nice angle.

Actually you're supposed to fill the new oil filter with oil before putting it into the bike.
Pro tip : watch movies on flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
Do you need to lean the bike to let all of the oil to get out?
Top vid by. Nice and simple to follow. Clear instructions. I can attack mine with knowledge and confidence tomorrow now.
Thanks !!!
Great Video. Has this process changed at all for the 2017? I have a 2017 250-sxf that i'm going to change oil for 1st time.
does it matter what way the oil screen fits in? cheers
Where can I get another one of those oil screen caps? Mines starting to strip a bit

is there an alternative to check the oil level, is that my engine pice broke and is sealed to prevent leak
I have 2 Filtes but where is my second one!?
Is it the same procedure for an sx-f450 modeled 2010?
What are the torque specs for all this?
Great vid very helpful just done 1St service on my 2015 exc 👌
is the motorex "mineral oil" ok for break in??
what oil would should I use in my 17 sxf 250 10/40 or 10/50
How often should I change my oil on my Ktm 250 and what's the best oil for it bro.

Oh I just read that your 250 is a 2-stoke. Definatley different process then. Youd only have transmission fluid.
I know this is old but people still read it. The manual is Basic minimum. Change it every ride, filter every 4 rides.
that oil is black ! I change mine every 10 hours and its still honey colored
Will this work with a 250xcf-w?
Fill the filter, don't just coat it!
its the same oil change for exc350f 2013?
yes its the same !!!!! MOTOREX CROSSPOWER 10/60
Nice vid!
maybe some one got sxf350 repairs manual ?
i think 10w 60 motorex oil is better for sxf and exc-f !!!!!!!!!
Jeez four strokes are even complicated for changing oil. KTMs are definitely brilliant though.
Try not using oil, you get soooo much more power for a short time
CR2504life lolz
Thank You
I only have 1L of oil :(
And 18s
Top💪
Lmao coat the filter with oil? Who decided to have this guy do a tech tip? #pointless
DOHCGsr Ktm recommends coating the filter and filling the cavity with oil before reassembly.

Keefer :(
Coat it in oil😂
Very bad...very very bad
