Hi Joe, great video and interesting content. We've explored the area around the cove extensively in the past with out dog Tazz. Looking forward to seeing more videos. 😀
Our dog loves it down there too. Actually she loves any beach as some my other videos bare witness to. I plan to post a new video on the southwest on the first Sunday of every month but there will soon be other videos coming out on other days from our trip to Norway 🇳🇴. Keep an eye out for them. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
A good video and I like the humour element. Having been a Portlander all my life, it's great to see some favourite spots from the comfort of the computer screen on a cold March day!
And it is a cold one today. I'm sure I don't need to tell you this but for such a small island Portland has so much history. So many stories to tell. By the way, I didn't just save you from braving the cold, I also saved you from climbing up those steps 😉
@@JoeCoastal sorry for the late reply. Yes I really enjoyed the video. I'm 46 now and as a kid we had lots of family holiday's to Weymouth and Portland. You miss these things as a kid and don't appreciate the scenery and history until you are much older. We never visited church ope cove. But as long as this now late summer weather is here I look forward to visiting this, now with my own children. Just hope they appreciate it.😂👍
Yeah my parents brought us this way several times. That's why I love it this way so much. I do remember though, they used to drag us round so many museums looking such "boring " stuff. Or so it seemed to us. All we wanted to do was go to the beach and play. Funny how we all ended up just as interested in the "boring " history as they were. I reckon your kids biggest issue with church ope cove will be the steep hill to get back out again. It's a real killer.
Thanks mate. I'll be back on the coast path again soon but I plan to put more information in my videos from now on. How's your walking going? Has your son still got the bug for it?
@@JoeCoastal We are going strong mate. 352 miles completed. Have saved Osmington to Poole for the end. Probably early September to complete it. But he can taste the finish line now so wants to go for it.
When you start looking for it there really is so much interest information to be found. I still have so much I've found out about Portland alone. Another video for Another day 😉 Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
Hi Joe nice video love it down there I found 2 graves with skull crossbones on when I visited interesting history there never new about the vikings landing great vid mate all the best donny oh how's the camper van coming on
Cheers Donny. I know those gravestones were there. Just really frustrated that I couldn't find any. The van? Hmm 🤔. I'm still trying to find some time to do it. Hopefully it will be done to a more use able state by summer. We'll see 😁
Hoping to do a fishing video here as it’s so productive but I’ve yet to film. Thanks to this video I’ll be able to give a bit more of an insight into where I am, I’ll make sure to reference you!
Also never knew the link to Pennsylvania! Somewhere I spent most of last year and almost moved to, place close to my heart and subsequently that area has become one of my favourite places in the country. I spend the nights in the car park in my van very quiet spot.
Yes lovely spot and let me know if you make a video there. I should warn you though that they are cracking down on van parking on the island so do your research before you come back again. There may still be places you can but they will probably be busy as it was becoming very popular. In particular by the heights Hotel.
I parked in wakeham when i filmed this. I work from a depot on the island so very familiar with it. There will definitely be more videos from Portland. Thanks for your support.
Yes they really are a killer. There's a great website. I think it's called Portland history. For such a small island it has so many interesting stories to tell.
Those steps, a devil to climb up. I found one headstone with a skull and crossbones. Over the corner by the trees. Nice place to go on a warm day with the butane stove and kettle
@@JoeCoastal it's a great place to spend a day. A bit quirky but that only adds to the beauty. St George's Church is a nice place to spend time. Just sit there and reflect in the silence of years gone by. Folks say there's nothing to do there in the winter, but how does one define that? If it's nightclubs and bowling halls then of course, but my interpretation is to absorb the natural beauty and find pleasure in the small things. One for example, could be inspired by the scenery to write poetry. When you live in a busy place like the Midlands, Portland and Weymouth offer a nice calming reprieve. We're seriously thinking of relocating in the near future
@46FreddieMercury91 yes absolutely. Obviously there's a lot to consider before moving so far from home but I think if you take the time to do it properly. It can be very rewarding. For my wife and myself it's the best thing we've ever done. Wild horses wouldn't drag as back to the life we lived in and around London until about 8 years ago.
@@JoeCoastal from what I've seen on the news, London is a horror story these days. You definitely made the right choice. I've been visiting Weymouth since 1986. It's full of happy memories and the nostalgia of my younger days. Maybe I'm getting more sentimental as I'm getting older but Weymouth and Portland feel like my true home. Always got the bug to return even if it's just a couple of days
@46FreddieMercury91 that's just like how I was. From the childhood holidays in the area and culturally it reminds me of how things were when I was young. It always felt more like home than home did.
Hi Joe I have seen a couple of videos on Portland and in both my curiosity is always drawn to all those sheds down on the beach but no one ever mentions what there about is it some kind of guilty secret is smuggling still going on??
Ha ha that would be a brilliant story if it were true. They are actually beach huts. A friend of mine used to own one of them. I love the way the large pebbles have been used to create front gardens for them all. In fairness though if one or more of these were still used by smugglers I'd be none the wiser so perhaps you could be right 😉
This was really interesting. I will hopefully pass this area on foot myself in a few years time. I am so sorry for the vikings' brutal actions, and you are very welcome to visit Norway. Your tone will not be an issue nowadays 😄
Thanks again Torunn. You have nothing to apologise for. I have no concerns regarding my tone whilst in Norway but i do find it amusing that that was the reason given. I will probably make reference to it again in videos from Norway just because I find it funny.

I'm staying out of that argument 😁
top channel .... cheers yet again Joe ... regards to the Weymouth massif.
Thanks Paul. The same to you and yours.
Hi Joe, interesting story. Nice video. Have a great time in Norway. I hope you bring a little back in your videos. Thanks.
Thanks Marilyn. I will certainly be making some videos of norway. Watch this space 😁
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you.👍
Thanks Rob. Glad you enjoyed it.

Good video - I live local and this is my favorite place, most tourists just visit Portland Bill
Yeah they miss all the best bits in my opinion. Tout quarry, portland heights, the harbour and of course Church ope are all fantastic places to visit.

Well said, I totally agree, for that I'm going to like this, this cove is directly behind me wakeham
