    It's criminal how the War On Drugs has interfered with finding solutions for real problems.
    Thanks, Nixon.

    • @kevinpaulus4483
      @kevinpaulus4483 5 місяців тому

      Absolutely but it wasn't only Nixon it was a long line of assholes, racists, puritans, conservatives, ... Medications are and always will be imperfect tools - just like everything we make - so to stop research into it because of recreative abuse and overblown stereotypes, grown largely out of fantasies and ignorance is frankly disgusting. We're stuck in the 60s in important sectors like pain management and mental disorders. Forced to panickly and franticly prescribing anti-epileptics to schizophrenics and muscle relaxers to pain patients. And yes those do work for some people. But it sucks and the drug-drug interactions can be dangerous. Those two things (pain and mental wellbeing) devour quality of life and do lead to people throwing themselves out of windows or worse.

      Nixon was way off base on many of his policies, but I think he genuinely meant well and was just a product of his era. If you watch some of the videos from his legacy channel, your opinion of him may change as mine did. I was very surprised to see a thoughtful and well-meaning man in his post presidential interviews. LBJ was the real bad guy, and Nixon inherited a terrible war.

      Mushrooms are very medicinal. This is why anybody familiar with psilocybin and any other kind of fungi will tell you, "They are alive." They have a very ancient wisdom. To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. How you think, how you feel, and what will you do with the information that you always knew, but now are seeing in this point of view." This is why mushrooms are so respected in tribal cultures. This mental health treatment works for me too. Half micro doses do the trick for me. At least a few days at a time with lengthy time in between. Never addictive. Thank you for sharing this point!

      That is the problem with these amazing plant medicines. We've been force fed absolute bollox from the government for decades about the harm potential of these molecules so they are frowned upon by the general public.
      This can also lead to people being in the totally wrong mindset if they are curious enough to experiment with psychedelics. A mindset of anxiety or fear when administering any plant medicines can lead to terrifying experiences.
      This is a huge step forward for humanity. Some people are able to achieve meditative states without the assistance of any medication, which is great for them, but due to the hectic and overwhelming environments a lot of people lead their lives in it isn't so easy. These are fantastic tools if used in the right set and setting.

    It’s also fair to ask why so many substances that were available extra-legally and “aftermarket” historically now require private sector investors to spend $100 million on studies to justify monetizing a pharmaceutical patent for $50 billion? (A 50,000% return on investment). They could regulate quality control from a consumer-protection standpoint like supplements. I know the answer is to implement stopgaps to reduce the risk of Substance Use Disorder, but that’s A LOT of oligopoly to achieve that outcome- and the majority of that wealth is not going to frontline scientists and doctors.

    • @oksanakaido8437
      @oksanakaido8437 5 місяців тому +4

      Supplements are actually not regulated and not required to have quality control unless the company that makes them decides to do this. When tested, many supplements were found to not contain what they claim to contain or have wildly varying levels of the ingredient used. Though I do hope that with all this research into psychedelics, governments finally also legalize the use of these substances in their "natural" form.

    This makes me so happy! It's incredibly exciting. I know that acid has always actually helped me in times in life that have been full of tumult. Been through some really bad bullshit with some guys lately. Dated my ex of 8 years that I broke up with in 2011. We were only together for a couple of months and he really treated me like trash and it was just an awful time. But last weekend I managed to get a hold of some acid and I got to say. It was really so helpful. I remember who I am now in ways that I for some reason forgot. It really is such a blessing

    Thank you Dr. Marks for all the info! This new development ought to help a lot of people who are currently suffering, because trends show that depression/anxiety are on the rise. Psychedelics have radically altered my life for the better, with LSD basically "curing" my alcoholism and decade-long depression. Psilocybin, the small few times I tried, helped me achieve significant, deep philosophical insight into the nature of existence, spirituality, and love that I'm eternally grateful for. But it would be irresponsible to tout the benefits without cautioning people to be safe and do ample amounts of research before trying such powerful substances. If strong positive effects can happen, then strong negative ones can too even if they may not have an equal likelihood. Plus overall, the neurochemical benefits of psychedelics can be achieved through meditation and the other things mentioned, which I do nowadays to maintain peace of mind soberly. Whatever anyone does, hope they are doing so in a safe, healthy way 💜

The distrust I have for most doctors has only gotten worse since I became "sick" with ME/CFS and have gained a lot of weight. Have you done/ will you do an episode on Gender Bias in mental health treatment- specifically concerning the use of psychedelic/ "street drugs?" I've been suffering from depression for decades and I desperately want to try something New. I have literally a bucket of psych meds that I tried, some worked a little or never worked, and then quit after 6 months+ because they weren't helping. Do you have the data that shows how many women vs men are approved for these treatments? I wasn't allowed to have my tubes-tied until I had a kid, which inevitably happened but was not in my plan. I feel like the medical community doesn't treat me like a person. How can women advocate getting new psych treatments?

    As a Psychedelic nerd and advocate, I have issues with this. MM-120 and LSD 25 are wild, crazy, not for everyone. You can fudge studies to say whatever you want to get your patented drug approved. They should use better/milder lysergamides like Al-Lad or Mipla for this sort of treatment, things that don't send you into a state of mind that can easily teeter into psychosis. Things that don't induce heavy anxiety. This study about MM-120 is kind of BS. If LSD cured anxiety, I would've been anxiety-free 20 years ago, but now, finally I'm finding some things that actually work. And it was Mescaline that really showed me how to face my anxiety and stay busy and focused through each moment. The fact is, these companies are pushing LSD cuz there is room to patent. Let's focus on the safe stuff first, mushrooms, cactus, mdma, etc.

    I'm 39. Male. Ukrainian. Over the course of a year, I took LSD (110, 140, 160 µg) 12 times, once a month. The substance was pure. Each trip was profound in terms of my psychological breakthroughs. My goals were: anxiety, my tendency to fall into depressive moods, to find myself(which was kinda lost after my long depression), to improve my mental health overall. I did it in my room(dark, warm and comfy). My last trip I did in the Carpathian mountains (I met the sunrise there). During each trip I listened to Ambient music(Robert Rich, Brian Eno).
    Result: exceeded all my expectations. LSD is a highly underestimated medicine for the human mind. Under the right circumstances it can bring a lot of positive changes to one's mind.

    Whilst I am beyond pleased to see that times are changing as it relates to psychedelics, unfortunately the tone of this video leaves me concerned that Western medicine is doing what it usually does by ignoring the deeply human and spiritual experience that psychedelics induce which are central to healing. Yes, microdosing has shown some efficacy but for PTSD, addiction and treatment resistant depression, I doubt it would be successful. Whilst it is correct that psychedelics help with neuroplasticity, this in and of itself is not enough because it is a negative or unworthy core belief that needs to be addressed and that's where the deeply emotional psychedelic experience comes in. I was fortunate enough to take part in a Clinical Trial using Psilocybin and the 8 hour experience I had under clinical observation was life changing and affirming. These experiences help address that core belief of unworthyness and replace it with a sense of connectedness and worthyness. With correct follow up with a psychotherapist or counsellor in the weeks after, the individual establishes new thought patterns that are aligned with this core belief and the neurosis subsides.

    When i took Acid recreationally i was surprised to find the drug made me very assertive and motivated, which is unusual for allot of people which take it for the first time.
    This led me down a path of self reflection where i believe i worked out i have BPD, and am prone to cortisol induced combat posturing, which has caused many issues in all my relationships.
    Even as a kid i always saw myself as a combat organism what with being male, but i never really stopped to realize that that was a warped self identity due to all the violence i faced growing up
    I have been struggling due to the very emotional opinions conventionally brained people have towards BPD people, they all think we are monsters, but in truth i cant help entering a state of secondary psychosis, and it leaves me not knowing weather to blame myself or those around me...
