Wow.....these things I am getting to know about Telugu and Kannaada states is mind blowing and I feel like happy crying. People still are so connected with Indian culture and I cannot be more happy about it. I (a college student) was a leftist till 2019 and after Abrogation of 370 (which leftist were opposing so I got confused about their behavior) I opened my eyes and I went to reddit India page and all I would see is anti-India, anti-Hindu comments from Indians themselves and it made me cry. After that I stopped using social media thinking that no one can save Indian culture as Indians themselves hate it. But now in 2022, I am reading these stories in comments section and watching South movies and it has made me hopeful that Indians are proud of their culture. Thanks to Pratikji, for his channel that we get to know so many things from his videos and also in comments sections where brothers from across India fill my hopes with positive Indian culture stories.

One small but very important point. This movie is not just about tradition. It is actually about spirituality and our cultural traditions having capacity to provide us the chance of elevation to higher state of being. Main message of the movie lies in dialogue of Forest officer after enlightenment of protagonist , when he says that “not just you, but if i try, even i can see the light. You may belong to forest, but we all are part of the same creation.”
This is actual message which is shown in the last scene and dance.
I must say, this is one of the finest movie experiences that i have ever had.
And yes, I am Gujarati who doesn’t know kannada, but that did not prevent me from having that experience 😊

It's not promoting spirituality in my opinion,it is rather a completely opposite tale outrageously and clearly promoting superstition and animal killing ,There was nothing symbolic to me in this story i would definitely appreciate someone with greater knowledge to enlighten me the symbolic meaning of this seemingly superstitious tradition 👌
Otherwise it's got a top notch storyline, concept and cinematography

Just one correction - suggest u read about Panjurli Daiva on Wikipedia to get a heads-up on the varaha avatara - in the context of the film. It is not Varaha Avatara of Vishnu. Rather, Panjurli is the spirit form (daiva) of a boar (varaha) that was loved, cherished and taken care of by devi Parvati who is killed by Lord Siva as it was giving too much trouble to people around. To appease devi, Siva revives the boar as a spirit or daiva (Panji in Tulu means boar) and sends him to earth to protect, help, guard the people.
Daiva aradhane is a very powerful part of the culture of Tulunadu (which include Dakshina Kannada district and Udupi District right upto Kundapur to which Rishabh Shetty belongs) and all people, immaterial of caste and economic background, have immense faith in them. Nearly every kutumbh has a daiva that is worshipped! Kerala has its own share of daivas and their dance is shown as theyyam. Such spirit worship may have existed in other parts of the country too, but could have been stopped or eradicated. I just hope Kantara inspires the resurrection and revival of spirit worship in all parts of Bharata desa.

Pratik Bro, These Rituals are still being conducted in Karnataka, especially in Mangalore (Tulunadu) area which is my Native Place, I have seen it personally. The procession/Act is extremely intense, not for the faint of heart. The deity is Kalurti Panjuri which is a Devine spirit of Wild Boar, considered as one of the Avatar of Vishnu, but there is a alternate story to it leading to Lord Shiva and the story goes, Mata Parvati had a Pet Wild Boar which she loved immensely and you might know the notorious nature of Wild Boar, it disrupts anything that comes in its path especially Garden and Farm area. It does disrupt the garden of Kailasha, Which Lord Shiva gets really upset and he Kills the Wild Boar in Anger. Mata Parvati gets really Heart Broken and is very sad to learn this. To pacify Mata Parvati, Lord Shiva then Resurrects the Wild Boar and Cast the Heavenly Spirit of Wild Boar to Earth and the Purpose of this Heavenly Spirit is to Protect the Villager and People in need and steer them from evil to good. And believe me it is intense and it really does what it says and you can feel every bit of it. There are numerous incident that can be described about the presence of this Heavenly Spirit. The Person Who is the vessel for this Hevenly spirit gets immense Power and you can see some Supernatural Act during the Procession which can't be described. One thing I noticed during the subtitle they mentions the Spirit as Demon which is wrong. Actually the Original Word in Kannada is "Butha" which in literal sense may translate to Spirit or Ghost but Infact actually it's Heavenly Spirit which is the correct translational. At the end of the Movie Rishabh Shetty is possed by the Spirit of Guliga who is the swift deliverer of justice and a Some Background on Guliga is that its one of the Oldest Daiva of Tulunadu and Guliga Daiva is considered to be one among Shivagana, There is a big story behind it which I cannot give it here due to limitation of comment size. But it's considered that Guliga has immense Hunger hence you see people offer Rishab a whole Rice Sack at then End and he immediately starts consuming it. It's extremely intense in real Procession we have seen it consumes the entire Raw hen. For people who are unjust it delivers swift justice and that's what you saw in the last 15 minute intense action. Panjurali and Guliga are considered Siblings actually there is whole lot of story behind it. It is said that Panjurali and Guliga faced each other and had intense battle. JalaDurga Consoles them and advises them to live like siblings. Hence in many places they are worshipped together. In the beginning of the movie the Vessel that hosts Panjurali' s heavenly spirit says to the smart ass City guy who tries to insult it that It will leave the village and it disappears in the Jungle but while leaving it says that Guliga is not going to be that kind to him and then we see him lying on the stairs of Court vomiting Blood.

Just for info, the climax that is so enthralling the audiences, as well as the 1st 15 mts of the film, have been choreographed and directed by the brilliant Raj B Shetty, who gave the big hit of 2021 Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana. Rishab Shetty trusted these sequences to Raj as he was very well versed in the daiva aradhane and bhoota kola traditions of Tulunadu. Raj along with Rakshit and Rishab make the now famous trio "RRR" Shettys of Kannada cinema who are taking to a whole new level. All 3 are rooted in Hindu folklore and traditions of Coastal Karnataka and draw metaphors from Hindu scriptures for their films.
As far as Kannada films is concerned, it is truly exciting times. Kannada cinema was always a class above the rest, except that they did not seek mass audience keeping themselves confined to the state, until of course KGF happened. With Kantara, now entire country is waiting with bated breath for the next few releases from this stable. And believe me, there is really exciting lineup of them!

Any person from small town will relate to this story irrespective of their current life. Personally I live in America for last 25 yes however as a child I’ve seen practice growing up in north India where we believe Maa Mahakali and Kal Bhairav come into human body of chosen ones to give blessings to all their devotees. Whenever Rishab said in interviews that anyone who believes in these things will resonate with this story couldn’t be more right. Despite of being modern my roots go back to my origin and I believe in these divine happenings around us.

To know in detailed Abt rituals performed in this movie search for "Panjurili kola" .
The god who blessed king and the god who kill goons in the end are different the one in Yellow Make up is Anna Panjurili and The last one who gets in Shiva's body is "Guliga".
Lord Gualiga is known for his instant justice like Swami Koragajja.

Dhanyavad Pratik Sir !!! This movie is grounded and establishes the connection so well. The Demi god's presentation is our culture, Bharat's culture, which is brilliantly portrayed in the movie !!! The Last 15 minutes of the movie is where I felt that Shree Vishnu Bhagwan's third incarnation, which is Shree Varaha Avatar had re-incarnated 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Panjurli is not the varaha avatar of Vishnu.. But peoples have missunderstood(lot of outsiders..After Kantara)..
no one is here believing a Panjurli as Varaha avatar of vishnu, people call 'varaha moorti' some times(Very rarely)..
even in the movie also there was not any mentions of Varaha avatar..
They mentioned 'varaha roopam' word In a song.. But that simply refering a ''boar faced god''., which is panjurli.
And last 15 min me jo hero ke andar aata hai.. Woh guliga hai(kshetra pala).. Not panjurli.

Thanks to you I could witness Jaagran Gondhal in this video. Concept is same as Bootha Kola of Tulunadu, presentation may be different. I liked your review on Kantara, no spoilers at all. And glad that you liked it. People across Bharat would like it too, as we are culturally connected.

I agree.. once upon a time we used to watch Marathi movies on Doordarshan every Saturday...simple stories with beautiful songs and equally mesmerizing music.then came the era of comedy movies( Sachin, Berde, Ashok Saraf) which was equally entertaining. But now Marathi film industry has lost its charm, dishes out movies which are poor cousins of bollywood ones! Frankly, It needs a complete overhaul to survive! No shortage of talented people here, only conviction and dedication required 👍
