I think Andries Noppert definitely deserved a shout. Playing at a mid-table Eredivisie team in Heerenven, I think he definitely deserves to be playing at a considerably higher level after his really good/solid performances for the Netherlands. Being chosen to be no.1 over Pasveer, Bijlow, Flekken, and Cillessen is pretty impressive.

Why the hate on James Rodriguez? In 3 seasons at Real Madrid he averaged 0.5 goals + 0.5 assists per 90 minutes. That's a lot better than Prime Zidane or Luis Figo and up there with the likes of Kaka and Ronaldinho.
At Bayern he was at 0.4 goals and 0.6 assists per 90 minutes in his first season and 0.55 goals + 0.25 assists per 90 minutes in his second. 0.55 is what most strikers achieve.
Even at Everton he was only behind Fernandes, KdB and Grealish for midfielders with most goal contributions.

@@someguynamedmike4766 agree with your assessment, however would like to emphasize that he wasn't really out of form that much. It's just that the classical CAM got out of fashion just when he was reaching his prime with top teams opting more and more to play a 4-3-3 with 1 CDM and 2 CM's instead of 2 CDM's and 1 CAM.
Look at Gotze's career, and even Ozil was shipped off to Arsenal.
I have a feeling that Messi/Ronaldo set the standards so ridiculously high that top top players weren't given their proper dues. Look at Benzema, he was booed off the field at Bernabeu dozens of times and many fans called for him to be sold. Now CR7 is gone they adore him.

Jhegson Sebas Mendez for Ecuador was amazing, he was the key to Ecuador performing so well in their first 2 games. His accumulated yellows and subsequent suspension cost Ecuador qualification into the second round as he was not available to play the game against senegal which resulted in a change of formation and personnel which eventually led to Ecuador's demise. His impressive statistics (passing, interceptions and chances created) was out of this world and he is a young MLS player that proved he can dominate on the world stage. He didn't fit Zidane's style of play and then left the club. He is a perfect striker and the future for Korea. I am Speechless not many others are mentioning him.
2nd was keanu baccus of Australia. Might be lesser known but whenever he came on the pitch and touched the ball he created something and was very dangerous on ball against any opponent.
In fact he held his own against Argentina and at times shined in that game. At only 24 and playing at st mirren in Scotland I feel he definitely deserves a spot at a much better club elsewhere in Europe
3rd as an honourable mention and I know you mentioned him as one also but goncalo Ramos of Portugal. Plays for benfica , is 21 and had an outstanding tournament and selected ahead of ronaldo for Portugal. Definitely deserves a move to a bigger European club. Also speechless he’s not being mention more by others

His progress over the past 12 months has been insane. He used to make me nervous any time he had the ball, but I think he was our best player this WC. Composed on the ball, and made some incredible tackles. Made a blunder against Croatia, so still has errors in his game, but if he continues to progress, he'd be a great signing for a bottom to mid-table European club.

Thought Croatia's Josip Juranovic (Celtic, 27) is worthy of a shout, since you are including players of that age. But the biggest surprise and future star for me was Alejandro Balde (Barcelona, 19). Beautiful player. I was very annoyed that Spain sent Gayà home as apparently the injury was not that bad and he would have missed at most the first game. To bring in a player from La Masia who is still playing for Barcelona B (in Spain's third division, which is far inferior to England's Division One when it comes to quality) though occasionally plays for the main team, was ridiculous. But I was proved wrong. Balde was almost as good as Gayà would have been and definitely better than Alba in this tournament.
