    indeed ! the C4 ZR-1 could easily hang with europes fiercest most exotoc high dollar supersportscars! while even the "base" C4 and Grand Sports took care of the respective lower euros such as the 911s and ferrari 328/348 & 355s, i am not even going to mention the Callaway B2K Corvettes. :D

    @2:30 is when the quad-cam vette porn starts.....close the blinds so that the neighbors dont know you low key pray for the day GM makes the Quad cam full production vette just around the corner.....i was born in 92' so the 92 zr-1 is a personal fave of mine black w/red interior damn do i love this lotus masterpiece The 67 L88 is obviously the best of all time or a 63 fuelie but behind those the 90s zr-1 was a special one to me to american hi-po in general. I always laugh when i think of it vette made to go fast in corners and all around the track in general....stang opposite and a complete race to 100 trick pony. Or at least deep down at the true heart and soul of the cars, their true identity.

    no one heard the grinding of the synchro's/gears on the 1-2 shift at 2:03 ?
    That's not good for a gearbox...
    Still, automatic damper adjustment in 1992 was very high tech

    • @rogerrose8220
      @rogerrose8220 3 роки тому

      Those synchro's couldn't keep up with a power shift. Don't think they were designed for the higher RPMs the LT 5 could turn.

    • @howabouthetruth2157

      @@BalconX Glad to see someone else is being observant. It's no different than taking a long road trip out-of-state, in the heat of the summer, at highway speeds with all of the windows down, instead of using the AC. Believe it or not, out on the highway, an engine that is running properly will get BETTER fuel mileage with all windows up & using the AC......vs no AC, with all the windows down. Those windows being down acts like a parachute. And because the car is traveling at say, 70 to 80 mph, it already has the momentum, so the engine isn't working as hard to run the AC. But with windows down at those speeds, the engine literally works harder vs what it takes to run that AC compressor. Years ago, I conducted an experiment with my '77 Olds Cutlass with 350 Rocket V8, while taking my wife & kids on vacation. To get to our destination 700 miles away, we kept the windows down. But coming back, we used the AC. The car got better fuel economy running the AC. Over the years, I've had several other guys say they did the same experiment out on the highway, and got the same results. Of course congested city traffic/driving is different. It really surprised me that GM would make a video, to test the performance of these cars with the tops OFF. You would think they would want to show off and get better performance with the tops ON.

    0-60 in 4.3 for the ZR1....no way...never in stock form

    • @rubyred93chev
      @rubyred93chev 8 років тому +7

      Yes way. Stock, off the show room floor. (With the ASR off of course). Quicker further into the ZR1 model line up, '95 being the absolute best (its last year in the fourth generation), none were made for 1996. (Just the LT4 versus the LT5).

    • @DimitriosChannel
      @DimitriosChannel 7 років тому

      LT4 and LT1 were very quick I think with good tires the LT4 was 3.7 secs 0-60 correct?

    • @rubyred93chev
      @rubyred93chev 7 років тому +1

      Dimitrios F Road and Track: February '96. 0 - 60 time tested was 5.2 seconds for the LT4. Perhaps someone like Jeff Gordon could get that time down, but that was the official number (I think Chevrolet data stated 5.3 seconds). Even though the horsepower was rated at just 330 for the LT4, data shows in was more like 365. I owned my '96 LT4 for just under 4 years (I purchased the car when it was 9 years old with just 21,000 miles on the odometer). My point is, with the mandatory 6 speed, the car was lighting fast for an American made car. I still drive a fourth generation too, but a 1991 automatic. The '91 was the last year for the L98 engine, plus I like the idea of the car not having traction control, although ABS brakes were standard. The fourth generations were ahead of their time, and still today the cars (especially post 1990), look great for their age.

    • @out4lox262
      @out4lox262 7 років тому +1

      i had a '92, and as you say, the l98 was out, in favor of the new, 300hp lt1. i think the l98 made 250hp, right? also i think the magazines had the '92 lt1 coupe -- manual, i'd guess -- at around 5.3-5.5 or thereabouts, for 0-60.

    • @rubyred93chev
      @rubyred93chev 7 років тому +1

      Steven silverman Yes in the final version of the L98 for 1991 was 350 ft lbs of rear wheel torque and 250 horsepower. My '91 has huge amounts of rear wheel torque, and is lightning quick for a 26 year old stock car save for the exhaust system. According to 'Motor Trend' magazine for 1992, the LT1 had a 0 to 60 m.p.h. time at 5.7 seconds. (300 horse, with 330 ft lbs of rear wheel torque). These latter fourth generations are quick, and the ZR-1 was even quicker once you really dropped the hammer. The power comes on after 60 miles an hour like a supercharged modern day Corvette. And the exhaust note of the LT5 is still mind boggling. Dave McLellan made great things happen when he bought an idea from Lotus (then a GM subsidiary), with just a handshake. What really hurt the LT5 came in 1991 though, when GM had a public relations nightmare on their hands as it was discovered one engine had a camshaft seizure problem, and catastrophic failure. The LT5 engine produced by MerCruiser in Stillwater Oklahoma had to cease production until the issue was sorted out. I think it was like 3 months before the quality issues at GM were singled out and rectified.(And just for the record, it was a GM 'in-house' causation of the cam lobes not being machined correctly). In the end it cost the car its bright future. Quality control on an engine that added $31,683.00 to the 1991 Corvettes' base sticker price of $32,455.00 certainly didn't sit well with the buying public. I mean after all, the fourth generation Corvette really put the car back on the map. The damage was irreparable, causing the car to be dropped from production, with only 448 vehicle units being built for 1993, 1994, and 1995, respectively. Fortunately the LT5 became a strong blueprint for the cross mounted 32-value Cadillac Northstar 4.6-liter engine in later years.
