have a contract, get a non-refundable deposit and demand to be paid the day of upon arrival in your contract. If they do not pay the day of then do not setup and watch how quick your money comes.
So true man. Recently I had an enquiry to play at a private birthday party. After some back and forth we settled on a price. I suspected something was up from the conversation, so asked for 50% deposit and it all went quiet. Later found out she was in conversations with another DJ. By asking for the deposit I knew where I stood early on and saved myself a lot of time and effort in prepping etc..
As a wedding DJ, it’s 25% to confirm booking and rest 14 days at least before event date. No cash no play. On night of event ain’t chasing nobody for money. This should be paid hand. Promoters take deposit so why can’t they pay deposit to performers. Simples!!
This was a very informative video! When it comes to accepting gigs I ask all the questions needed to make my self more comfortable before going or If I go I'm aware of what to expect I don't like surprises so its natural for me to ask everything I need to ask them. When it comes to getting payed I make sure I get paid deposit , depending the situation before I even show up or Set up...whatever way I make sure because I don't wanna waste my time and energy If I have to chase them lol.
Great message/advice man. Luckily I've never had the issue of not getting paid that night. But I've heard quite a few horror stories of how DJs get ghosted, that shit's rough.
For anything you need to have a rate even if it is minimum wage! Most promoters dont respect the DJ so you need a contract even if it is something simple written on paper and you let them sign it.
I ve been djing for years i tell you my price then i tell you what deposit i want down i have 2 page contracts made up with what time? Pretty low level advice. Welcome to the music industry or any art industry. Main thing is connections - second thing is luck and rising when you have the opportunity to shine. All the industries involve politics and everyone talks. So take the money hits and become homies with the promoter/club owner? If that’s too hard for you….well it’s not your industry.

Don't "ask" what you're getting paid, you TELL them your price. BOOM! Peace DJ

FACTS MAN. I want my money before I press PLAY.

I ask for payment upfront in full. Otherwise, they are not my client!
How do I get gigs?
To see such awesome equipment looking so destroyed and crapped on 💔
The Famous 'I'll pay you after the event'
Lol honestly I hate it
@@DJCEE_B why I've started doing invoice jobs if that's the case, after 30 days if they still ain't paid it's not looking good for them
No contract no DJ
