When you're trying to keep an RP scene within a roughly 30-minute time slot you have to compress some timelines.
But IRL, she should not have made a statement to the cops immediately on the scene, other than to claim self-defence. That kind of situation causes a massive adrenaline dump, you can't think clearly, and you need time to mentally process it and seek legal advice before making a statement.
Also, she wouldn't get the gun back immediately - they would keep it until everything had been thoroughly investigated, and that could be quite some time.

But if someone ever ends up in this situation IRL, don't take this scene as a model for how to respond or what to expect.
