I noticed that as well I was pretty shocked at how sensitive the fuze was
Air burst was an air burst round. Not a result of the first explosion.
plus, that bomb that detonated in the air, caused a bigger shockwave around the area at floor level
@@TheJoe7015 i think so too, normal frag rounds need airburst for more coverage and so the shockwave isn't wasted by reflecting onto itself from the ground
In case you are wondering what that black box is in this video. It’s called a rino mount that hangs in front of military vehicles. When turned on it creates a heat signature that will set off certain IEDs in front of the vehicle rather then under it

Did anyone else see the second bomb impacting the first bombs debris plume, looked like an intentional air burst. Must have had a lasting impact !

Tim Blizzard it's a common misconception that modern bombs from advanced countries just explode on ground contact. It was most likely a munition designed to explode above enemy infantry.

The first two explosions were good examples of the difference between the damage radius of an airburst explosion as opposed to a ground level one. Isn't science fun kids???

This was 80% of CAS missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, F-16s,F-15s and B-1s with JDAMs. And this is a fact, no matter how much would the A-10 proponents make you want to believe that A-10 is irreplaceable.

Thanks, yes I understand the part about shrapnel, I never knew those Jdams could airburst. Terrific weapons.
Not really 'on command' though. It was set off by making contact with the debris plume from the previous bomb. Sure, it could be reproduced. But probably not reliably. I suppose you could make it more likely to occur by making the nose detonator extra sensitive. But if you make it too sensitive, the air pressure as it's falling might set it off.
Looked like this used an air burst
That's what I was thinking. After the initial explosion... a split second later, about 100 feet off the ground, there is a "secondary" blast. I'm no ordinance expert, so I'm just talking out my back side. But I'm very interested if someone else can explain it. Definitely appears to be an air-burst or timed explosion.
Burnsengine JDAM refers to a add on guidance kit. So it would have been an air burst of some sort.

Yes fused for air burst. Watch the shrapnel pattern (low greyish dust) when that fucker pops. During the final days of air operations GW1 they loaded an ass load of them to drop on iraqi republican guard dug in out in the open. They are brutal.
I heard the callsign Warrior 6, that's the 1st Marine Brigade, I think. That Humvee would have been filled with HQ types, which would explain the camera. Great video!

I once met a Ex Viet cong guy over here who during the war shot an american soldier during a firefight. After the firing stopped this guy rushed over to the GI and put him on his shoulders and carried him some part of the way back to the us patrol who then shot him...!!

2. Shrapnel and explosive energy are more evenly distributed over a larger area.
Airburst results in maximum damage on personnel and unarmored targets.

I was there for this, this is not Afghanistan this is Iraq and that is warrior 6 Our battalion colonel and its the army infantry and the town was zadon south west of Baghdad.
