  • My goodness this episode of Moon Knight absolutely shook me to my core. I am so thankful the MCU is using their popularity to showcase REAL stories of trauma and how it isn't pretty. No glamorization. Just trauma in all its ugly and complex glory. Oscar Isaac is always amazing but he deserves everything after this episode. So thankful To Mohamed Diab and Kevin Feige as well. Thank you for this story of a man dealing with extreme trauma but he still tries his best to save others and be a superhero. Thank you

It's because this long format gives them the time and opportunity to do so over a full six or more hours instead of an introductory movie and the 2 expected sequels--often each separated by a year or more.

that moment when marc basically collapses under the weight of all that grief like its a physical burden he cant take another step under is heartbreaking and amazingly acted. Oscar knew exactly what that moment was and how to deliver exactly what its like when pain youve repressed has built up so much pressure you can't hold it inside anymore.

"I'm not even in this place right now." I know what you mean. We're about to go into the final episode, and it was a shock to remember that the show has heroes and villains and a dastardly plot and all that superhero stuff.
I agree that it's powerful that Marvel is going here, but it also matters (a lot) that they're obviously doing research, both on Egypt and on DID. I've seen videos by DID systems talking about this show, and they seem to find it a lot better than most of how this has been depicted in popular entertainment.
And, when you were talking about your diagnosis, I think it's important to this story that Marc has never been diagnosed, he doesn't know how DID works, and even when, in his mind, he sends himself to a therapist he imagines the therapist as Harrow, his worse enemy, because he's that resistant to getting help.

So many of us cried this episode. It's raw, deep, heavy, and dark. It hit us all on so many different levels. What happened in this episode is real, it happens.
THIS episode is why the character is on a show and not a movie for his debut. We NEEDED this build up and exploration to why Marc has mental illness and trauma. They have done a lot of justice to the comics. It's good to see that Marvel did not turn the mental illness into a gimmick or minimizing it in any way. This was a new direction for the MCU and a eye opener for the audience.
I believe this show will be used in acting classes because of Issac.

One thing I took from this episode is how deeply losing a son can affect his mom. Not that I was unaware before, it's just different to actually see it. My mom almost lost me to suicide a couple years ago, and it really broke my heart to see that something like this is what she might have gone through If I hadn't been saved. My grandmother lost a child years ago and it still affects her all these years later. One of the things they said to me was about how my grandmother still struggles on her child's birthday, even 30 years later, and the whole family still has to rally around her to get her through that day. And that would have been my mom's future every year on my birthday. One of the only reasons I'm still here is because I promised my grandmother that I would try to be happy, that I would do everything I could to be ok. Even though the world is a shit place full of shit people. But this just reminded me of what my mom could have had to deal with. I don't think me being grown would have made it any easier for her. So for her, for them, I try.

Man, re-watching this, I can't help but hate that dad for refusing to lift a finger to help his son; I think I might even hate him more than the mother.
I grew up in a situation that was the reverse: my father was an angry drunk who was emotionally abusive to my brother and I (not towards our mother), but our mother would constantly make excuses for him because *his* mother was abusive. But my dad eventually quit drinking, and by the time I was an adult, he was an entirely different person, and apologized on multiple occasions for how he treated us. I literally can't even emotionally connect who he is now with who he was back then, but my mother is still exactly the same. I don't hate her at all, but I can't help but still hear all those excuses in the back of my head whenever I remember my childhood--*she* never acknowledged her part of the equation.
With Marc's parents, I think the reaction is cranked up to 1000% because we never see the father try to reign in the mother's behavior, and we never see the mother threaten the father with violence. The father seems to be a stable and well-adjusted guy who isn't living in fear of his wife--so what was his excuse for allowing this clear-cut abuse?
It's really well-written, because these situations are layered and complex in real life, and the show does a great job of making teenage-Marc's decision to leave (and stay away) feel completely reasonable to the audience.

The chemistry between Oscar Isaac and Oscar Isaac is Amazing.. The Jake with the bandage on his noise looks confused when doc is talking about Stephen, I think that's Jake. Jake is the personality to take the beatings (he's the tough one). Marvel is telling the Dark and Emotional storyies in Marvel, It started with Wandavision which is based off of The House of M Comic. Both The House of M and Moon Knight are actually darker in the comic than what is shown on Disney+. Disney+ has been killing the game on content since they been a thing. We still have 1 more episode to go.. Geesh!

I don't think the personality being interviewed at the beginning is Marc or Steven. The way he says "you're not a doctor" has a bit of a subtle accent to it, American for sure but not the same kind as Marc's. Couple that with the way he says "I feel like a million dollars" and the fact that he tries hurting himself with the shard which is something that seems out of character for both Steven and Marc, I think that scene might have possibly been a peek at the third personality that's been hinted at multiple times throughout the show.

i finished mr. robot a couple of days before this episode aired so it was a heavy week last week. i watched mr. robot because i wasn’t watching any of the shows you were reacting to and i missed y’all.
after seeing this, i realized the title had double meaning. “asylum”, being the place that marc and steven were stuck in, i guess the manifestation of marc’s mental state? and marc seeking “asylum” from the abuse by creating steven. marc created steven so he can have a place of refuge and be protected from pain. very much like how elliot protected the real elliot by keeping him inside the perfect world…
it’s interesting because at first glance we all think marc is the badass and steven is the weak wimpy nerd who can’t even protect himself…which turned out to be the opposite…and then we get the “tomb buster” slogan: when danger is near, steven grant has no fear. it made so much sense.

I see it within my own mother and hope one day she will see her faults but I also realize it probably won't ever happen. As of now I personally choose to spend time with her sometimes despite my childhood and adulthood trauma caused by her. And when things get too much for me I get to go to my home that I luckily have now. I didn't choose my mom but she is the only one I have. I'm not gonna lie, I feel this part, like a copy of the origen story of Peacemaker, if you see the serie of Peacemaker you understand why I feel this part (brother part) like a copy, but in the rest is awasome

notice the bird skeleton in the comics khonshu was manipulating mark from a young age basically grooming him to become moon knight because of his D.I.D. and eventually tried to take over his body. Marc was chosen to exact judgement on the guilty he but blames himself for his brothers death. This maybe be why he sees khonshu as a bird skeleton instead of how he is shown in Egyptian mythology with a head full of feathers of couse he also looks like a bird skeleton in the comics so this is just and idea.

Noticed that Marc’s brother colored in that fish Then in the background of when he’s about to get abused by his mother the same fish is on the wall however is not colored in. Young Mark before he develops D.I.D. wear solid colors then later you can see that he has two colors on his shirt but when he’s about to be abused by his mom he has three colors the dark the light in the in between I’m thinking that Mark is the in between Steven is the light and Jake Lockley is the dark Jake lockely in the comics is more prone to violence and he kills because he wants to Marc kills because he has to

Ancestral plane that’s another connection to wakanda and black panther
The dead dragging you down like in the mummy returns and Imhotep died
    Oh shit bushman
I wonder if moon knight will meet the sun king at some point.
I guess in a way Arthur is trying to help Steven away from khonshu I mean khonshu isn’t a good guy in the comics either actually manipulates Marc and tries to take over his body
So now are they establishing boundaries between themselves in his mind
He said very Ned Flanders lol okily dokily lmao
A deep dive here of self forgiveness and repressed memories
I think this is the second or third time Steven has done an act of violence
