Agreed. The Yogscast version is the original, after all, and it's very cool to see how a professional band was able to adapt a lot of the choices made by the song's original composers to fit into a much more polished, studio-quality version.
@@Trevor21230 better late than never, but the Yogcast version is not the original. There is a great short documentary about it, but Diggy Diggy hole started as a dumb minecraft joke years ago. This was awesome! Very truly Tolkienian Dwarf. They took themselves and their culture very seriously and really didn't much like they way the merry Elves made fun of them for being so serious about things the Elves found strange or ridiculous. I can just imagine these guys listening to The Hobbit and suddenly saying, "Huh. The Dwarves were very musical in exile. What kind of songs do you think the Dwarves sang while shaping Khazad-dum? I love the adoration that emanates from you as you watch this video. I've listened to this song so many times even my 70+ year old mother loves this song. She is amazed by the drummer's relentless performance. I'd listened to the original version of this song a few times before this version was released and as soon as I saw it it was an instant play. I bet this song has made Wind Rose balloon in popularity. They have certainly earned it.
It's an awesome cover and Windrose just know how to have fun. That, for me, is half of what metal is. Yes, there's a more martial feel to it, the call and response isn't particularly uncommon but often well done. For more metal that truly, truly embraces fun you should have a look at Nanowar of Steel. Pretty much anything is great, as an introduction if you haven't already heard of them Norwegian Reggaeton and Valhallelujah but everything they've done is epic and so much fun!
Yes, originally an old Minecraft song from way back, Wind Rose have done an awesome job adapting and expanding on the concept! I got my whole Minecraft realm into this song a couple of years back, even those who claimed they didn't really like Metal... well, it is so catchy... and we did indeed all did a very large and very epic hole, and it was amazing :D
You should watch the history of diggy diggy hole, it's wonderful! From the guys joking in minecraft, to the fanmade short video, to their own and later this heavy metal cover!
I love Windrose for this and the internet in general. It is such a cool story with this song. A mind fart of a minecraft gamer turns epic metal song in the end. Yogscast have written a really catchy and funny tune and Windrose made it just perfect :) So great :)
While I do genuinely love and prefer this metal cover, I still like the simpler Yogscast original on occasion. Plus I love the animated story for their video.
Despite being into Death Core I like the Yogscast version much more. Wind Rose sounds to rough for something funny like this. Sorry Windrose, you're still great 😘
Thanks to Wind Rose and Napalm putting out an instrumental version of this song, it has become part of my regular singing practice. Helps me dig down into those low notes (I am a baritone and I’m singing this song, singy singy song, singy singy song!).
I've never been a heavy metal fan. But you've opened up Unleash the Archers to me and that has led to this. Thank you for sharing a plethora of music genres!
If you want more metal songs about Dwarves or Tolkien in general, I recommend Blind Guardian. It's not Tolkien inspired, it's Stephen King inspired, but "Somewhere Far Beyond" is my personal favorite.
For more of a pulpy fantasy feel I'd also recommend checking out Clamavi De Profundis here on youtube. They do a lot of original songs but also perform pieces from the Lord of the Rings and such as well. The Song of Hammerdeep and Dragonshore are some of my favorites from them.
Battlelore has tons of folky/powery metals songs about the Middle Earth. The band Summoning does atmospheric black metal inspired by the Middle Earth. I'm sure there are others, too.
Happy to see the profundity of the chorus lyrics receive the recognition it deserves 😂 Anyway, this actually reminds me of that one Breakdown vid where an expert in historic warfare rates battle scenes in fantasy movies, and his critique essentially boils down to how, instead of the nonsense presented in the movies, every available hand would've been digging trenches.
Just. Wow. This person is a GIFT. Such energy. Such pandemical happiness. I think it's the first reaction video I have ever watched, where I was as impressed by the reaction as by the song. And I DIG this song!
Who knew a joke in Minecraft 10 years ago would one day become this. Gamers have been singing this song for ages and its great to see people outside the Minecraft community being introduced to this epic song.
My daughter insists that I play this every time I drive her someplace. I think I've gotten her into Wind Rose generally, but she objects when I try to switch to Gloryhammer.
A friend explained to me that this song is much more complex in dwarvish as they have a lot more words for digging and such than we do. Like how eskimo's have many words for snow and we dutch have many words to complain :P
If you want more dwarf-centric music, Clamavi De Profundis, they're a cappella and orchestral group/family. Songs like: - Song of Durin - When the Hammer falls - Hammerdeep - Dragonshore - Stoic Bravesoul
They are gorgeous! They probably have the whole album and all the songs are just as folk, epic, melodic and powerful. After them, there is always a desire to play something fantasy, about adventure.
I normally watch YT videos at 1.5x speed, and forgot to change you back to 1x speed for this video. At first I was like, man, did she just do a few lines of coke? Then I realized it was still 1.5x speed, but decided to leave it just for fun. Your mannerisms and gestures are absolutely adorable at 1.5x speed. Put a smile on my face and a giggle in my lungs :)
Oh this is going to be good! I can't wait! I wish someone would introduce her to frogleapstudios too. I would say Leo's cover of Adele's "hello" is a great introduction to "He who fixes all songs". Lol. I have diggy diggy hole stuck in my head and blast it now and then when I play 7 days to die! Make sure she watches the animated video too!
Despite the silly lyrics, I thing this song actually does a fantastic job of covering basically all fantasy dwarfs. They take themselves seriously, they are focused on hearth and home, they love to create and mine, and aren't too fussed about things that are way beyond their reach. I think that both the original and this song for different things.
That was so cool! 🙂 I did not think of Middle Earth dwarves, but had the Discworld dwarves before my mind's eyes. 🙂 What a catchy tune and with very fun percussion, too. 🙂
You should see how the fans headbang to this song at concerts. Picture a whole crowd thrusting imaginary shovels into the ground in front of them, then hurling it up and back over the shoulder. It's a great effect!
I recently started to do DnD, and my character is a dwarf. After about a week of doing DnD, I found this song and learned it off by heart. Ever since, whenever my character fights, I sing the first half of this song just for the fun of it. This song has really impacted the way I look at DnD, and I give my absolute thanks to all the creators involved in making this song legendary.
God I never knew Elizabeth did D&D but now I would absolutely love to hear her play that character :3 absolutely stellar video, I love it, thank you for the analysis, please do more like this :3
I always have to watch when you show up in the feed. Seeing the excitement and enjoyment you get from so many genres is what music should be about. Bringing the knowledge of what certain singers are doing just adds to it for me
Wind Rose is one of my favorites! They were the band that first got me into metal, with this song, as a matter of fact. But as fun as this one might be, they have some pretty epic tracks as well, including "Wintersaga," "King Under the Mountain," "Returning Race" (more of a Progressive sound to this one), and their recent "Gates of Ekrund." FORGED IN FIRE: Didn't that show feature Ilya Alekseyev of the channel That Works? I watch That Works all the time, along with Kyle Royer Knives. If you like Forged in Fire, you really should check these channels out as well. Kyle makes some GORGEOUS weapons.
Love that you costumed up for this one! And WOW, I didn't expect you to nerd out so much for this! (no idea why it surprised me) You're channel just continues to. Get better and more fun!
I've watched the Yogscast since how to survive the first night and never would have expected their legacy to reach this point. I don't watch them as much these days but they will always hold a special place in my heart
There used to be a Medieval Rock Party every month in a club back here in Germany. This song in its original form (and Dragonborn) was played everey single time. The guests were even given dwarf caps and prop picks for the dance. It was a funny tradition 😊
I already smell this is going to be a masterpiece. Elizabeth is gorgeous as Always, Love her reactions/analysis for Metal songs ! And Once again, congratulations Napalm for 2M Edit : masterpiece it was
I heard this from “Yogscast Lewis & Simon” before it was ever made into a metal song. Back when I used to watch a lot of Minecraft videos, particularly mod showcases. Simon’s avatar was a dwarf, and he modelled his behaviour accordingly. Hearing metal singers sing “diggy diggy hole”, knowing it came from a Minecraft video is absolutely hilarious.
Love how she so casually was making a handful of LOTR/The Hobbit references throughout the video without making them feel forced. That and the fact that she plays DND 👍
This is the musical expression of the dwarf zeitgeist. This music should be piping through the steam pipes in every Dwemer city in Skyrim. Another song that I think does this encapsulation of the spirit of a myth is Atlantis, by Donovan. There's a wistfulness threaded through the grandeur that foreshadows disaster to come. It's not even a very serious song, but it's so effective.
This and the origanl were genuinely the only songs that would soothe my boys when they were babies. We had it in the car, house, on our phones... everywhere. I know the lyrics better than their birthdays.
You mentioned forged in fire being one of your favorite shows. One of the guys I went through Army basic training and AIT with was in it. He made it to the final but his blade snapped during one of the tests. John Norwood. He has some amazing stuff that he makes. He built his forge from broken tools which he then fixed with the finished forge and now has a very successful business.

If you want more metal songs about Dwarves or Tolkien in general, I recommend Blind Guardian.
It's not Tolkien inspired, it's Stephen King inspired, but "Somewhere Far Beyond" is my personal favorite.
If I recall correctly Led Zepplin's "Over the Hills & Far Away" is Tolkien inspired too. Plus Alestorm fits in this genre of metal too.
She has looked at "The Bard's Song" and "Valhalla", but I definitely wish she'd get to "Nightfall in Middle Earth"!
I'm sure there are others, too.
the quest for carefour is a great one
Happy to see the profundity of the chorus lyrics receive the recognition it deserves 😂 Anyway, this actually reminds me of that one Breakdown vid where an expert in historic warfare rates battle scenes in fantasy movies, and his critique essentially boils down to how, instead of the nonsense presented in the movies, every available hand would've been digging trenches.
And to think this all started with Simon doing a cheesy Dwarf imitation.
I honestly love her to bits. She's fun, she is open to all genres, great explanations and she get's into it..
I would love to hear Elizabeth do an opera interpretation of Diggy Diggy Hole!
Just. Wow. This person is a GIFT. Such energy. Such pandemical happiness. I think it's the first reaction video I have ever watched, where I was as impressed by the reaction as by the song. And I DIG this song!
Arguably the deepest song on the internet. I approve. 😂
Slow and steady 🙂
your daughter will grow up.. but hopefully not too much to not enjoy Gloryhammer again. Just the right amount.
Greetings to your daughter from mine, also a Wind Rose fan
But, but... Gloryhammer.
You must teach her to fight for the king, for the power, and the ring!
You have her on the right track.
You are a great father, my friend!
There is something special about our hostess both enjoying the music and completely cracking up.
Songs like:
- Song of Durin
- When the Hammer falls
- Hammerdeep
- Dragonshore
- Stoic Bravesoul
I love Song of Durin.
Dwarves detest the sea / we hate those dragons more
Wind Rose has several Dwarf inspired songs. I love them all. They are on my gamer play list , always pump me up for battle.🐺
They synced up with the power hammer, like a metronome.
You should do a reaction of the original version by The Yogscast a group of British gamers that have a few members with amazing voices
this!
I'd love to see her reaction to the original version. would be a good side by side :-)
They are gorgeous! They probably have the whole album and all the songs are just as folk, epic, melodic and powerful. After them, there is always a desire to play something fantasy, about adventure.
This is the starting song on my work playlist. Looking forward to this.
Leo rocks. I was in love with the bad romance cover for a while lol
I also love MIne Mine Mine and Army of Stone by them as well.
I got everyone in my office hooked on this song, the chorus is so catchy and you can't help but sing along.
She loves great music and she plays DnD my god she's awsome !
Thanks Elizabeth and Napalm! Powerwolf next?
Lyrics: "Digging a hole"
Elizabeth: "The DEPTH of these lyrics"
I completely lost it at this point 😂
God I never knew Elizabeth did D&D but now I would absolutely love to hear her play that character :3 absolutely stellar video, I love it, thank you for the analysis, please do more like this :3
they stream d&d sessions on twitch, check for the link in the video description ;)
But as fun as this one might be, they have some pretty epic tracks as well, including "Wintersaga," "King Under the Mountain," "Returning Race" (more of a Progressive sound to this one), and their recent "Gates of Ekrund."
FORGED IN FIRE: Didn't that show feature Ilya Alekseyev of the channel That Works? I watch That Works all the time, along with Kyle Royer Knives. If you like Forged in Fire, you really should check these channels out as well. Kyle makes some GORGEOUS weapons.
BEST CHANNEL EVER!... You won't find
a better one...no matter how deep you dig.
Love that you costumed up for this one! And WOW, I didn't expect you to nerd out so much for this! (no idea why it surprised me)
You're channel just continues to. Get better and more fun!
Would you believe me if I told you that this is a cover of a minecraft song, if you know you know
The crossover event we needed
I've watched the Yogscast since how to survive the first night and never would have expected their legacy to reach this point. I don't watch them as much these days but they will always hold a special place in my heart
Their series Shadow of Israphel is still talked about to this day and what a shame it is that it ended. Yogscast ftw
Now Elizabeth needs a million subs
It shouldn't take her long. I subbed to her channel when she was under 10k subscribers. It's been crazy watching how fast her channel has grown.
@@Patryn71 Agreed
There used to be a Medieval Rock Party every month in a club back here in Germany. This song in its original form (and Dragonborn) was played everey single time. The guests were even given dwarf caps and prop picks for the dance. It was a funny tradition 😊
I already smell this is going to be a masterpiece. Elizabeth is gorgeous as Always, Love her reactions/analysis for Metal songs !
And Once again, congratulations Napalm for 2M
Edit : masterpiece it was
I heard this from “Yogscast Lewis & Simon” before it was ever made into a metal song.
Love wind rose and thier Dwarven metal
This is the musical expression of the dwarf zeitgeist. This music should be piping through the steam pipes in every Dwemer city in Skyrim. Another song that I think does this encapsulation of the spirit of a myth is Atlantis, by Donovan. There's a wistfulness threaded through the grandeur that foreshadows disaster to come. It's not even a very serious song, but it's so effective.
I always love seeing her geeking out about the stuff I adore as well! That lights up my 8hours of work! :D
Im subscribed to the charismatic voice and I clicked on this thinking she uploaded it but she didn’t Napalm did which is really freaking cool
This and the origanl were genuinely the only songs that would soothe my boys when they were babies. We had it in the car, house, on our phones... everywhere. I know the lyrics better than their birthdays.
wind rose is awesome !!!
So we get a Wind Rose _and_ a Linkin Park reaction on the same day?? Truly a blessed morning, this.
I *love* that you dressed for the occasion...
I love how Napalm has been embracing the reactor community. Here's to hoping they keep it up.
Looked like she was having so much fun enjoying this song...awesome
Good pick. Wind Rose is great, Cavalieri is like 90% lungs.
Just found this & I love it. Your joy is infectious..
