This is meant more to be food for thought than anything, so share what you got from this video in the comments! I'll be taking notes. - Ігри
When thinking about that (the theory) It makes the lyrics hit harder. My guess and interpretation is that Yourself did exorcise Herself (Yourself's GF) but actually regrets it which led to his mental and physical change. The lyrics could be him wanting approval from someone, wanting anyone to be proud of him so he feels better about the decisions he's made. But deep down he feels nothing but guilt and regret because he probably did love Herself. It's also stated that Herself resides in Yourself's microphone, meaning that she chose to stay for some reason or she's confined to the mic for whatever reason. So what if Yourself did exorcise Herself but actually loved her, so he confined her spirit to his microphone so that she'd stay with him after the exorcism. The only problem I see with this theory is that Herself seems to embrace Yourself during that frame she appears in, not only that, but she joins in on one part of the lyric section. As a guy who hasn't been exorcised just yet, I can't say anything, but I don't think I'd embrace and sing with the fella responsible for sending me to the abode of the damned. Great theory nonetheless.

To address that part at the end there, I still think she would hang around because I don't necessarily think this is an "evil" bf who killed her out of the blue (I should've made that clear, so thank you for pointing this out) but rather when forced into an ultimatum by something he could not control, he decided to exorcise her.
I don't even think he himself was proud of it initially, I think he just kept telling himself he did the right thing until he convinced himself he did.
It would keep the idea that she still cares about him intact since in this scenario, she wasn't betrayed. (Of course that's arguable, and that's what BF and Yourself would be arguing over.)

My theory is that, Yourself is a version of bf where everything goes wrong and tries to show bf the way of success and not make the mistakes he did which led to gfs death. He wants bf to tell him how proud he is of him because he wants to know if hes doing good enough in life and also possibly because of gf possibly saying how proud she is of him before death. Asking bf to stay awake just long enough to see his path for success that yourself couldn't have ensuring bfs great future and making sure bf doesn't make the mistakes yourself did leading to yourself downfall which can explain the tattered clothing and dark circled eyes and possibly the reason of gfs death or after gfs death. Yourself is a parallel to bf meaning if bf does something bad then yourself does something good or if bf does something good yourself does something bad which can explain how things can happened to yourself. Its heard that gf is singing with yourself because she cant let go of him and wants to make sure yourself can make the right decision even if she isn't there to make sure he isn't alone all by himself. But that's just a theory, A GAME THEORY

When I was trying to piece it together, I thought that could be it, but since I decided that all of the lyrics are directed towards one individual, I scrapped it because the 2nd half wouldn't make sense in that context. But perhaps each portion of the lyrics was directed to a different individual? 🤔

this theory is actually making sense for me i am happy you explained this it makes alot more sense now most people thought that girlfriend died but it now all makes sense that this never happened
To be fair the creators seem to intend for it to be the dead gf thing, but I feel like they did a horrible job and basically anything else made more sense.

Actually the first theory was actually correct (confirmed by the creators) and yourself is talking to gf in the lyrics,his appearance also explains that he is emotionally and mentally broken from the loss of his love,but I also think your theory is interesting,maybe bf did exorcize gf but feels regret about it,wanting the other version of him to *not* repeat his mistake,since he truly did love gf.
i think of it as a three way message:
one for divide as the whole song is in tribute to him
one for yourself's gf which died in his universe
and one to bf telling him to take care of his gf's
when I first uploaded that I got a similar comment. I like that as an idea too.
SHORT STORY: silly billy aka yourself is bf from a different alternative or world where in that world gf actually dies and silly billy somehow comes to the original world and the reason why he looks like a crazy guy is because he is suffering from depression and mental Anxiety or something like that and when he says "I'll make you say how proud you are of me" he's meaning in his mic gfs sprite is in there and he's that to HER thanks for listening to me yap👁👄👁
I haven’t seen any comments about the theory itself but honest great job man! As a classic enjoyer of the original theory, you did an amazing job using the original material to portray your theory!! That's what my friend thought too! It's definitely another interesting way to look at it, but I wanted to try and say something new about the mod, so I tried to stay away from 4th-wall stuff since it's generally accepted already. 😅
I mean it can be both.

@@rafsandomierz5313 I don't think we've forgotten about -symbolism- allusion, it's just that in the context of my video, I'm working with what the mod gives me and nothing else, so it wouldn't really come about.
Of course it's still as valid as any interpretation of the mod, I just don't find it to be a satisfying theory.

You are right. Yourself nerfed his gf and put her into the mic. He also nerfed other characters most notably Dearest and Mearest. He was an angel, but now he's fallen (what a bozo) and honestly he might have been banished to that mirror world by God and the mirrors are symbolic.

it's confirmed that ''yourself'' is alternate version that after his lost gf and now he doesnt care himself, ''yourself'' is same bf and you think how is same person well bf is 7ft thats why ''yourself'' shows that bf is tall dude, there is early storyboard concept animations for backstory what happened ''herself'',silly billy was named by ''herself'' and ''yourself'' is singing for ''herself'' ,there is more lore on newgroounds and twitter from ''triki troy'' his a disegner and i think he made storyboard animation
I don't think anything you've said here is wrong. "Yourself" IS a version of boyfriend, I say as much, but I simply made the distinction that I believe he himself is the reason that girlfriend is gone.
I didn't really look for artist/mod maker confirmations (outside of the fundamentals) since then I'd just be Google searching for viewers instead of actually making a 'theory'.
TLDR: This was just supposed to be my interpretation of the events that transpired (I like to think I made it clear that it's just an interpretation) and I didn't want to just regurgitate information that I already saw in other videos.

It's fine just give you something that people not looking artist about lore by now everyone theorizing connection with another mods it's cool but it's kinda dumb, instead they can't ask modders what is about the character
0:27 that’s not what’s actually happening. He’s talking to GF spirit if you look closely, you’ll see that spirit comes up in one of the lyrics and that scene and he is actually referring to gfs spirit because it’s too hard for him to let go of her and the reason why it’s a spirit is because she died in his universe and is trying to keep her spirit close to him and let it fade away and that’s why it says stay awake
