I'm sure he was deeply mourned. 😔

I’m sure you’re right. He was a national hero and a celebrity during his lifetime. I imagine there would have been shock that this famous figure had died and the mourning would have reflected that.

The biggest funeral before or since and I'm including Churchill AND QE2 here too. Churchill admitted his funeral would be but nothing compared to his greatest hero Nelson. Nelson was the most loved hero in the Nation for years!!

Nelson did meet Wellington in Downing Street House in October 1805.
It was the first & only meet of each other.
They didn't become good friend mates.

This funeral has only ever, maybe, been surpassed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The 2nd. And only just!! Nelson was a VERY popular War Hero who died whilst winning the most decisive battle of the last 250yrs.
Even Churchill admitted his funeral would be but nothing to that of his greatest hero Lord Horatio Nelson and the Queen of 70yrs is only just on thatvlevel of funeral size 🙏

I will cry the day people will call him a criminal and tear Nelsons Monument down, that, in my opinion, will be the straw that breaks, that will be the death of Heritage, good or bad.

This reevaluating rather than just learning from history really doesn’t do anyone any good.

I understand you, as a Spaniard I also fear the day the statue of Blas de Lezo go down and the great stories of the seas would be forgotten.

@@BritishHistory I have been on board HMS Victory several times when I have visited Portsmouth in the past. I believe the last time was in 2010. I saw the place where Nelson fell after getting shot by the French Sailor. I have also seen the place where he passed away.

The sarcophagus was commissioned and intended for Cardinal Woseley & not Henry 8th.

    ● 6th-8th January = *3* days
    ● but it was actually 5th-7th (procession on the 8th)
    ● at the time it was Greenwich Hospital (formally Royal Hospital for Seamen, Greenwich), not Naval College
    Apart from that, spot on

If ever l get to visit London and elsewhere in the UK, including Liverpool (the Beatles) & Portsmouth (Victory), visiting Nelson's tomb is on my "to-do" list.
Am nonetheless curious; are his remains contained inside the lower large block-like part; or ?? inside the dark colored section above ?? or below, under the floor ? ...somewhat confused about it & have been for quite awhile...(here in the U.S., our naval hero, John Paul Jones, is entombed in the chapel at the naval academy, at Annapolis.

so was he an admiral or a vice admiral,it seems people refer to him as both at the same time, when this can not be.

A general, whether he be a brigadier with one star, a major general with two stars, a lieutenant general with three, or a full general with four stars are all referred to as ‘general’. Just so with admirals as well. A vice admiral is referred to as admiral unless his grade within that rank is specified. It’s the same in many of the military rankings. A Sargent first class may be referred to as just ‘Sargent’ even though he has a higher rank than a buck Sargent with only three stripes. Long answer.
