I still fondly remember going to best buy and picking up a GTX970. This was before the days of GPU's in locked cases.
Well we’re talking about something the size of a cereal box that costs triple the average person monthly car payment, so yeah we should probably lock that sh*t up
Ah yes, the 3.5GB card
Honestly between 3060 still costing 350 euros 4 years later and having a hypothetical 3060 with 10 GB of fast ram and 2 GB of slow RAM costing 250 euros, a lot of people would prefer the latter
What I mean is hybrid VRAM >> obscene prices
@@eye776 Not the amount of ram was problem but the driver that came with it. It treated the last 0.5GB as normal ram but in fact it was much slower. They fixed it in driver like a year later and used it more as a cache than normal ram. One fact that remains is false advertising. If they stated 3.5GB from the start, it would have been great.
i only noticed it when i booted resident evil 4 remake lol
I rate this comment 3.5/4
Team RX 580. Boombastic.
RX 580 don't have new drivers anymore, Nvidia still supports the GTX 970.
Still using mine
I just bought one
RX 580 is still the GOAT for gaming on linux.
i remember not having enough money to buy that card and i wanted it so bad,im currently using RTX 2060 super
the GTX 970... already 10 years old and is a capable graphics card as ever
we don't talk about the vram
I never saw this host on this channel before but I really like him.
Kyler is a gem. He's on the Twitch stream Monday through Friday. He's a good host and a great guy.
I had the red version of this MSI card. Since everyone knows red makes your PC go faster, this test is inaccurate.
I had a GTX970 until last week when it finally failed. It had serve me 8-9 years. While it wasn't able to play any newer game at high fps, it still gave me great value and good gaming performance at medium setting for quite a lot of games.
What did you replace it with?
@@veilmontTV I thought of going for RTX4070Ti but I had to settle with 4060 because the price is 2.5x more and my pc is dated and can't support it without changing a whole bunch of stuff.
@@demoniclsayer 4060 is still pretty good and it uses so little energy
Same except mine didn't fail. I just decided to upgrade to a 4070 and a Ryzen 7 7700x because I couldn't emulate PS3 games with that card and an i5 4690k after recently getting to know Batoxera. Saw a used 2000€ PC on eBay for 1200€ (after negotiating) and just had to jump on the opportunity. I'm glad that this card still holds up this well so I can sell the old PC and don't just have to scrap it.
Still using it to this day and I agree, it has given me excellent value for its price. I mean I dont play any heavy system requirement games on PC, the newest game Ive played on it is Jagged Alliance 3 and it could handle that quite well even on high settings.
Next year when Windows 10 support ends Im finally gonna get new rig after 10 years and most likely getting either RTX 5070 or 4070 depending on price/my financial situation. If cant afford either then RTX 4060 but I would rather go for 12GB GPU than 8GB because I would want the GPU to be able to handle games like Jagged Alliance 3 or Baldur's Gate 3 even about 10 years from now, so it could give the same longevity that GTX 970 did
I've found 3 gtx 970's that works fine out of the recycling center electronics container & around January 2023 i did buy one as a Christmas present for my younger brother to upgrade from his gtx 460, yeah his pc was quite outdated at the time, its less outdated by now but 4770k 2x8 gb ram & gtx 1070 still reels it in pretty well in terms of performance, especially with an ssd or two & a light overclock to 4 ghz on the cpu.
The 970 was my first nvidia card. I had it paired with a FX6300 in 2017 and used that build until 2020. The 970 will always have a place in my heart!
i actually hav a gtx970 gigabyte edition in pc next to me wit i7 4790 cpu, actually does run cyberpunk on medium settings no probs at all, today its playing horizon forbidden west so gtx 970 is still a mini monster in 2024,cheers guys happy gaming!!!
What games have to played with it brother I also have the 4790?
to be honest i have played everything up to date at 2024 not a problem at all jus do casual dust blow out and card is good to go,spiderman 2 brazil edition runs good aswel@@shranobshrestha
How did you managed to play horizon forbidden west I can't even get 30 fps on lower settings so I deleted the game also I didn't use fsr I don't like it it's makes the screen blurry
game is running good,ssd and i7 4790 cpu and 24gigs 1600mhz ram,medium settings with fsr2 at 1080p i swear @@whitewolf1028

Good video Kyler. Keep up the good work!
The green msi design...I love it so much. I remember playing WoW legion with all the green magic everywhere and looking into my pc with the 979 glowing. It was beautiful
Kyler brings it home again. Like the time and effort to show the relevancy of older cards and some of the minimum requirements for games
He's really blossoming into a fine young host.
bro lets goo like keep the vids up my guy
Make a series about second hand pre builds how to upgrade how to play games with heat temperatures. How to undervolt and underclock in the heat of the summer.
I believe a main factor, in how a game runs, that's involved is a game's dependence if it is CPU or GPU intensive, still own my GTX 970, bought new when it first launched in late 2014, running in my media PC, been repasted two times now, and pads replaced, it can still run games (newer present more taxing games, well kinda, lets just say sorta, LOL), was my stable GPU for some years, and recall getting a rebate check for around $10 I believe, for it's false advertising of claiming in having 4 GB (3.5 actually) VRAM.
So many games are CPU limited. I've seen 1080s for like $80 that's still a solid GPU. That's plenty for people getting into PC gaming
True, I upgraded from 6700k to 13600k with the same 1070ti and fps doubled in heavy CPU games.
Kyler! Bringing it. Nice work man.
Great job on the video!
Mustaches are what separates real men from boys.
Uncategorically awesome mustache
No, most of the time it makes you look like a dorky uncle.
I have seen videos of memory being replaced for more. There is a guy in Russia that has done it many times. I wonder how well it would run if it’s changed out to double the ram? Doing good man. Hope you keep up with the videos
this video is a good example of chaotic goodness.
Keep making them kyler
I built a pc with i7-4790k +970 in 2015. It still runs fine most things.
I got the GTX980 and is getting old, but still useful for all the indie games. Besides, new 3A games are getting worse and worse so I'm not worried yet 😅
My upgrade point from this card is Civ 7, and that is just a maybe.
Buying a 970 and gta v in 2015 felt good man
Awesome job kylar 👏👏👏
I'm still running a EVGA NVIDIA GEforce 9800 GTX+ on an older i5-2500K 4core system on my network.
I still remember having my dual EVGA 970 SSC gpus
Still using GTX 970 here, have not upgraded single thing on my PC since I got it in 2015. Next year when W10 support ends im finally gonna buy entirely new rig, propably going for RTX 5070 or 5060 if the price is right or possibly RTX 4070. 12GB GPU anyway
GTX 970 is 10 years old? Fuck I'm getting old :(
My goat was the white aSUS GTX 970 turbo. Loved it and wish I never sold it.
1:15 thanks Kyler. Uh btw what's canoodling?
aha, im still rocking one of these, starting to stutter a bit now lol. thinking of upgrading to a 4060 lp (for my sff pc)
i have that same msi gaming x green dragon gtx 970 (special edition). i have it as a display under my screen, but it still works.
I still run a 970 its an evga model i may never get rid of it. Its definitely showing its age but it absolutely loves dx9. She gets real hot and real loud when your pushin lots of frames in dx11. And 4gb ram fills up fast. Plays skylines and thats good enough for me.
@ufd tech, could you please do an AMD vr benchmark list
I did this with an rx 570 while waiting on my 7900xtx. The 7800xD pulled some performance out of that card i didn't think was possible at 3440x1440.😂
My card!
Edit: it worked quite well in the video! 🎉 my only issue with this card + my cpu is that they don’t handle local coop in BG3 - too many crashes 😢
As long as i kept to 1080p, It carried me trough Battlefield 3/4/1/5, and it held its chin high trough Dark Souls 1/2/3.
Does it run Crysis? Well, yes, it does, all of'em, and the Far Cry games as well, as does GTA 4 and 5.
At one point though, it was holding me back. I care not about the max frames, its the minimum that bothers me, and if it can't hold a minimum of 60fps, we have a problem, which is why after 10 years with it, i finally upgraded, and bought a 4080. Should last me a long time at 1440p.
Ready or not, can you actually run somewhat on a 730
Still rocking a GTX 970
if Kyler actually ends up reading these comments just to let you know the VR problem was due to Ram speeds differing on the video card. With it rendering two videos signals with a half a gigabyte of slower ram
This feels like the perfect amount of chaos to start my day with.
More vr benchmarks please. We lack them.
I am still running this in my desktop Gamer, Regular Desktop with a 4670K and 32GB Ram, WIN 10 Home, lots of storage, I can run most, if not all my steam library games. Most recently, STRAY, since I added WIN 10 back in December, I will most likely keep it until Win10 support is gone. Looking to get a gaming Laptop, with 4000 series or wait for 5000 series. I can run a thunderbolt dock with my monitors.
I have a gtx 960 and it works for me well
Ive had to change back to my old 970, my 2070super died on me over a year ago 😞
So hard for me to save up for a new gfx card, have been skipping lunch to try to afford one...looks like i wont be eating any lunches for about another year for maybe a 5070 or what i bet will be 5060ti 16gb...need something with more than 8gb of VRAM for my 3440X1440 display.
I think this is exactly what I'm going to do. I'm sitting on a 970 rig as is, and have been for the past 7 years and it's starting to not keep up anymore. Not enough CPU cores etc.
Been wanting to upgrade to an AM5 system, but graphics cards have gotten so expensive I figured I'd buy a 1650 or a 3050 6gb to carry me over while I save up for something better. Though after finding out these cards are barely better than what I already have, I decided to just wait until I could get something more decent like a 4060 or 6600, or find a good deal on the used market.
Nah, this video convinced me. Upgrading everything but the GPU for now. The good old 970 will keep for another year or so and won't cost a dime while I save up for something better.
Wouldn’t the 7800x3d’s igpu be a better option than this? I thought it was supposed to pretty good,or am I thinking of the wrong one?
No igpu is better than the 970 just yet
Was still running a 980ti recently as a gaming pc but now a plex box . but still worked well.
you did somthing wrong with fortnite DX12 - I get more than 100 fps at 1080p low / high draw distance. On my gtx 970.
My 970 is still running quite strong, won't be upgrading anytime soon
Just gave my kids a pair of these as hand me downs from mine and my wife's computers. They don't care for triple A titles, just fortnight. We ran these as our primary until we got handle downs from our friends from their upgrades. The 900s are still good. The 1ks are still good. And AMDs 6k seriest are still great cards.
My favorite youtuber isnt alive anymore.
My friend offered to sell me his MSI 970 special edition for $50 in 2020 because he spilled spaghetti on his rig and wasn't sure anything was still working. After cleaning everything the only thing that worked was this GPU. Sorta wish I kept it instead of selling it a year or two later because it looked cool.
wait... its 10 years old..?
The GTX970 was the only Graphics card I regret purchasing in my 30+ years of home computing. They were bad when they were released and never got any better. I replaced it with an 8 gig RX480 Nitro a year or so after and never looked back.
my first pc had a 970, the memories :D
The 970 was so glorious! That's when NVIDIA used to care...
I'd like to see the frame rates when you're two hours into monsoon on RoR2
Ha - I had one of these exact cards during the 2016/2017 mining boom.
Had a GTX 9 7 0 SLI setup
Lol, still the card in my machine. As my machine is 99% gaming wise for Civ 6 and Holocure...
Wat mouse are you using?
ua-cam.com/video/uN_qvFIbd9k/v-deo.html
My wife uses my old 970 after my upgrade way back in 2022. It is fine.
Damn I miss how thin cards were
Best GPU I have ever owned.
Now it sits on a spare pc which I use some times. The last time I used it, it was for my wife to play Palworld with me. Runs just fine.
Fsr 3.0 ??
I still have this as a spare card, the ASUS Strix version and it still perform fairly good, better than the 1650 at least
*than...
Damn I must be old if the GTX 900 series is 10 years old
But it is a testament to the power of the cards though. Can you imagine any card from 2004 running 2014 games?
Things are lasting a lot longer now, I feel stuff from like the mid-late 2010s will be usable for a while
And I’m Kyle!
Hey, i have that same graphics card, but I have it in an older pc with xp 64 bit. Just to run older games with an i7 4770 lol
I got a gtx 1050 with a intel i7 7700hq with 16gb ram and my pc doesnt run anything as smoothly as his even though he has a more outdated graphics card😅 anyone know why?
I figured "frick it" 4k
Love ya'll
GTX970 should play VR games. Most likely an issue with Meta/Oculus app or not enough VRAM to support the high resolution of a Quest 3. HTC Vive Original should run perfectly fine on it. GTX 960 was the old minimum for Vive games.
Oh, that's my video card
Henry Potter in Minecarft💀💀🧌😦😨😰😭
Pro move on saying Lego, singular! 😁
Legos
Henry Potter - WTF? I swore it was Harry Potter.
told my dad you said "hi". He said "stop telling me that youtube guy said hi. you made me put my hearing aids in for that again?"
also, looking AROUND the computer to see the bottom right 1/4 of the screen is hilarious.
At least it's better than My i5-6100U inigrated graphics
huh, what s coincidence,i was planning to buy gtx 970
All the new buggy games- it's good playing old games.
I still have my evga 970, I kinda want to memorialize it in epoxy resin for eternity.
RIP EVGA (gpus)
Try running it on age appropriate hardware. I got a gtx970, FX-6300 and 16gb of ddr3 and I'm lucky to get 28fps in rust with lowered settings on my old rig 😂
well you wouldnt have the problem if you used the intel from the same time, my friend had fx6100 with r9 280x and he had terrible experience as every now and then he would encounter a game which would have terrible stutters all of that was gone once he switched to i7 3770
I deff got paid for the 970 FIASCO !
Someone is selling a 980 ti on my local fb marketplace for $50, I kinda want it even though it's worse than both of the gpus in my current machines. Just to mess around like this lol.
I would juts get a 1650 gddr6 NEW for the same price as of this year as it runs better and uses less Power , yes in terms of video editing its a little slower but for gaming is Better
Acutally... I did exactly that, I buyed an 7800X3D, 32GB of RAM and a 980 Ti... Cuz I'm too broke for a newer Card, but I will replace it as soon as I can
rx 6000 series gives way better price per value than nvidia, as long as you don’t mind not having DLSS and Raytracing, that is
@@gonozal8_962 I need NVidia AI Features and Cuda for the AI Stuff I'm doing :c
I bought this in mid of 2015 around $450 with tax in India when I was new to computer market and got destroyed when nvidia released 10 series. I still have this and want to buy new graphics card but there's no valuable for money graphics card.
Honestly the 900 series has been basically obsolete since the 40 series. Even the highest end Titan card from that generation is slower than the mobile 4050. GTX 10 and newer are the only GPUs you should be buying
henry potter
Like ! like! like! GTX 970....10 Years Later? Really, I'm still living ten years in the past...
It goes by so quickly... Finally for the graphics card, Because the rest: 7500f b650 ddr 32 giga 5600 (oc 6200).
Using it daily for my games and the rest, I ask myself the question: should I change it?
The desire is there, that's for sure but I don't think I'll change the resolution (1080p) and the price of the new CGs annoys me.
Still, putting more than €400 into a graphics card drives me crazy! So honestly, I'm waiting for either Black Friday or a golden opportunity.
I am, I think demanding 16 giga and unfortunately nvidia. I have a suspicion on AMD (ati) because of their drivers which they do not maintain over time. I experienced it over time on laptops where I had to go to Russian sites to generate drivers compatible with the new Windows and even for fixed tower PCs. For me, it's a shame in itself, it's planned obscelesance... Yes ok who keeps a graphics card for 10 years? Well me!

The GTX 970 is the last card to get Win XP drivers. For the retro gamers out there, if you want to build an “ultimate XP” PC this is the ultimate Nvidia card.
4 gigs of vram is a tough sell but 40 bucks it's okay I guess. Build in graphics are free though. Worse but free.
This might be a wishful thinking but I just only hope that the Strix Halo 40-CU won't cost like $999. 😢🤞
i still use a gtx 950
11:20 I think you used the wrong chart; it doesn't match the script and it's identical to the next chart.
Did you repaste
