I really respect and appreciate the way you always put your horses first. I'm glad you knew when to stop.. He's so beautiful. As is the relationship you have with him. Its obvious how much he wants to please you. :)
I see what you man telling that Shilas is dominant. But oh goodness he did so well tho. Flip has another personality. Both of them are super lovely horses. Good work and keep going.
Yes they are totally different! Not everyone would think that as they look alike and do the same moves, but Flip would work for anyone! Shilas has like 3 humans he prefers and the rest “can give it a go”. 🤣
Interesting video, especially in comparison to the one with Flip. And such a great reflection at the end. It's important to find a way that works for the human horse pair and realising that that might differ from horse to horse. And I love that you take into consideration what your horses enjoy and feel. Great inside, thank you for that!
I love the fact that you can not only read all the little signals he gave you for his opinion on the change, but also that you listened to him and didn't force him to just deal with it and ended on a bad note. Thank you for being such a great influence for the up and coming horse people to show them that there is always a positive option to train.
I just love how you care so much for the horses's point of view.. forming consensus with your horses is such a beautiful thing to witness, as it is authentic and becomes a place for both hearts to meet and understand each other. I am really loving your instruction and insight as to how you are working with their temperaments. I am learning a lot!
O sweetheart you have no idea how patient you really are to be able to do what you have done with your horses and if he could talk he would and tell you how much he loves you. Fantastic job such fun and joy to watch as I have said before you are amazing and your boys, oh those boys they are the best.
I think i found your youtube channel about 8 years ago soon after I got my first very own horse (and nothing was really working out the way it should) and was doing alot of research. How you interact with your horses, play with them and train them was and is a huge inspiration for me. As of late I have come back to your videos and it's making me a bit nostalgic thinking about how me and my horse first started out. Especially when you described how Shilas is your mirror and how you didn't click in the first two years you had him. I really enjoyed your insight on your relationship and how you work together. You are a really likeable, amazing person, I am proud of my younger self for picking someone like you as a big inspiration. Sorry not sorry for the long paragraph!
Wow. Eva is so wonderful with horses and the love between Shilas and Eva is incredible. You can see on Shilas' face that he has higher consciousness! I love the way Eva explained everything! It fills me with so much joy because Eva understands the mental and emotional complexities of these wonderful horses and in so doing she elevates these animals where they should be - at a very high level. I just love the psycological depth of how Shilas and Eva mirror each other's personalities. The no-hands was a good experiment because it makes you see both techniques more clearly. But I love the hands way because to me, Eva's movements are almost balletic - just like Shilas' are - so to see Eva's hands and arms moving and Shilas trotting with his tail flashing, it is all like a free and beautiful choreography to me. So hands enhance the whole affair and everything runs together in this full mutual, beautiful, tuned-in dance. Like a human and equine walse! So one need hands! Eva was describing Shilas' unhappiness with the no hands, and I could see it myself in Shilas so it helped me "read" horses better and also trust my own perceptions of the horses' feelings and thoughts. The filming was so, so beautiful. I love Eva's mother's laugh! I loved the outside ending shot of the path. And I liked going back into the barn with Shilas in the stall. Funny but after watching the Flip no hands experiment I had so many questions that I was going to ask. But Eva answered them all here in this video! My questions had been about boundaries. One time I went in my friends' coral with her pony and I started running around with the pony because I have always wanted to do that. But the pony would start to treat me like maybe I was a female horse. I felt sort of a danger as he sort of increased his play, and kept coming close to my body and being a little rougher. It opened up the whole realm of boundaries to me. Like how can I fulfill the great joy of running and playing with a horse yet keep boundaries and I guess being authoritative enough that the horse respects me. I have challenges with boundaries in general and challenges with being the authority figure. I never want to scold a horse and other people have told me that I'm too lenient with the horse and the horse isn't respecting me enough or my boundaries. It made me feel badly. Sort of hurt my feelings. But deep down I know healthy boundaries in general are a good thing and is good for a healthy relationship too, and that it's a struggle for me. My friend told me I need to be alpha with a horse but that is not my personality. Then I felt worse thinking maybe I loved the horse more than I love myself, though that's hard to say, and maybe I had a self-esteem challenge. I have sort of an awe and boundless love for horses and I think maybe I put them on a pedestal above me. I care for them so deeply. But I want to do things the right way and what's best for the horse, (and me too I guess.) I don't want to be indulgent but I want to show my love so much and want to be so gentle with the horses. Anyway, so this was a wonderful video for me because it really gave me insight and helped me address some of these challenges of my own internal being. I love Shilas so much. I have watched him for so many years. I feel like I know him and love him. Thank you for this beautiful video. Eva and her horses are such a joy in my life....
I think your love for horses is beautiful, I wish more people had this. But you can care for them even better when you care for yourself in a great way, they will feel that too and then more beautiful moments and feelings will be shared. 💘 Thank you for your comment, taking the time to typ this, and sharing so much positivity and good vibes. Bless you ❤️🙏🏻🍎
Hi Eva, this video was very interesting, I love how you explain his personality. I can clearly see the difference between flipp and shelas now. Your deep explanation was so educational. Nice to hear your mom, and your makeup today really suits you!!! Looking forward to your next video. 🖐🏻
What a beautiful horse and what an amazing connection! To see how frustrated he got but still tried and tried was impressive. It shows such a deep level of trust. And it again shows that if youre treating your horse (or any kind of animal really) with kindness, understanding and respect it will always be rewarding. Its soooo common to see weird people trying to "impress" their horses with punishing them with a whip or even go that far to really deeply hurt them that im really really glad, relieved and impressed to see someone who just wants their horses to understand them. I have so much respect for you and enjoy your, jesses and matts videos enormously! Lots of love from germany!🐎🦄💕
@@AlwaysHorseLove he obviously is! but what touches me the most is the level of trust you have in each other. And that you clearly want him so be happy. Not many people put that first. I really like the kindness you treat your horses with. It seems to me that for you there is nothing more important than your horses happiness and health. It proves that of course humans can be friends with animals. Some people dont get that. 🐾🐾🐎🦄
You are surrounded by so many beautiful horses and ponies! What a great time you must have. Thank you for sharing. It was so cool to see you running and playing with him at the end! Such a big strong amazing boy! He obviously has a big personality. I love it!
I loved this video, thank you! In particular I love how well you know Shilas' personality and how you just accept it and work with it. I love people like you who are kind to animals, thank you so much!
It's so amazing to see you uploading again! Funny we both seem to have made a return to UA-cam this year and we've both been here on the platform for so many years haha I've always loved watching your journey with your horses and cannot wait to see more! It was really interesting seeing the difference between Flip and Shilas during this challenge. Just goes to show how every horse is so different and no 1 thing will work for every horse! Fabulous videos, thank you for sharing!
Welcome back to you too, then! I wish I kept uploading every year but the motivation was gone when Shilas was injured, I felt like half of my channel just shut off for a moment because of him. HAPPY TO BE BACK! And yes the difference is huge!
I absolutely love shilas, I have a soft spot in my heart for haflingers. I have a haflinger paint cross mare and she to is challenging and to smart for her britches, but that’s what makes her different from all the rest. Would love to know more about shilas. Loving your video’s
You are an amazing horse trainer and I would rather you be safe. Thank you for your honesty and I admire you for that. I had a horse that would do the same thing and she got very dangerous with me. I'm glad to see you keep safety a priority😊
Yes I really felt like “okay my arms ARE my “personal bubble” and by taking it away, Shilas was like “oké so where is the boundry now” and immediately started pushing. It was a good lesson tho! And I hope it helps people watching!!
Eva, you are so perceptive about Shilas's character and it is great that you understand why the "no hands" training won't work as well for him as it does for Flip; it is also nice to hear your description of Flip's great desire to please. Both of them are lucky to have you as a trainer and friend!
I find it so interesting how different horse personalities can be. In the Flip video you can see how he was offering, although he didn't understand all signals without hands. He's a very attentive little guy who wants to please. Now Shilas on the other hand was more: "??? What is this? You sound like you want something but you don't tell me what??? Okay you don't know what you're doing, I'm the captain now." I think the no hands challenge is fun but so much talking to horses is done with the body, it's quite limiting. I guess that's why it's a challenge. Great video and really interesting, I especially enjoyed the commentary about your horses characters. Rede is relatable, if I was next to such a fluffy looking teddy bear I would go in for a cuddle too!
You are exactly right!!! I was not expecting this at all, the playing with Shilas always goes so fluent and I was pretty sure taking away my hands would not cause much of an issue. I was so wrong! After 13 years... I got it wrong. LOVED this challenge! And yes Rede just wants to give love and get love 😭🤣❤️
What is the name of that INCREDIBLY precious horse who kept putting his beautiful head on Shilas' back!!!??? Now I'm in love with him too! Such a loving creature - I wanted to jump right into my cell phone so that I could hug him and kiss his beautiful velvet camel snoot!
Hihihi yes she is fantastic! Her name is Rede and she is a Black forest horse - they are known for their extremely gentle and loving personalities! She only wants to be held and cuddled by everyone, but not all horses like it! Luckily us humans do! Even my dad does and he is not really fond of cuddles with horses. But 3,5 year old Rede is so gentle.
Right!? It was soooo clear! Shilas was talking the whole video without Words and it could not be more clear to me. This is obviously our way of working and this works for us. Did not imagine it to be this difficult! What a difference it can make.... ❤️
@@AlwaysHorseLove Absolutely! I have a dominant horse too and when you spoke at the end of the video about how, for the first two years you didn't get along - I was the same with my boy. Then when you also spoke about having to be very clear teaching him what was right and wrong, I was the same with my boy too. I have had him for almost 16 years now and he is 22 so he isn't as challenging as he was when he was younger and we were still learning about each other but he can still be cheeky and strong when he feels good! He is my world! I have a younger boy and he is the opposite, very affectionate and easy going, extremely friendly and a very quick learner with little effort - he always looks to understand and please!
Shes soooo pretty And I wish I could commit to working out as much as her AS WELL as having 3 horses, UA-cam and whatever else that goes on 👏👏👏 Props to you Eva
I think I messed up my votes on your survey. On each question I wanted to see ALL of the options but if I were forced to choose, on the first question I would choose BAREBACK and on the second survey question I would choose EPIC & SLOW MOTION. But my BEST answer on each survey question is WANT TO SEE ALL THE ABOVE!
Your relationship with the horses is amazing and i love all the tricks. I want to teach some of them to my shetland, but i don't know how. Could you give any instructions please?
Shilas is such an handsome boy. Love how you try out new things with your horses. The bond you have with them is wonderful to see. They are truly special to you and love you back. Next up for the experiment Rede??? Lol
Rede would be ANOTHER level since our tricktraining literally is in the basics still. I need all my senses and options still so taking that away will be..... interesting!
Ik zou heel graag nog een training willen zien van Flip en shilas bij elkaar die vorige video was echt geweldig😂💕 maar ik vind alles leuk om te kijken💋😊
Looks great fun! And Shilas is a Halflinger! (I was going to ask, but you mentioned right at the end of the video) I loan/ride a 9 year old halflinger/cob cross who looks identical with the same flaxen/red colouring. I can see the same traits/cheekiness in the little guy I ride too, but I don't have the facilities to do this sort of fun training right now, but maybe one day, who knows. Keep having fun.
You know people adopt horses that are just like themselves; Shilas resembles you, Eva, in mannerisms and coloring; He's gifted with a very expressive face and takes his cues from you with seamless synchronicity when you are using your hands, as if you are one team. He likes to please his trainer and friend.

That was very interesting. To be honest I didn´t expect that. I thought because you are a perfect team it will go like with Flip. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank you for this, I have wondered in the past about his "pee pee". I had thought it was because he was trained with treats and it creates an excitement in them at the anticipation of the treat. Much like Pavlov's dogs. I am flawed he weighs 600 kilograms. I would have put his weight around the 400 kg mark, give or take 50 kg. I have had clydesdale crosses that weigh less than 600 kg! Many people fail to understand that "training" happens each day for the rest of your lives to maintain and improve techniques of both the horse and the trainer. It shows that you know your animal inside out, as you clearly predicted this outcome, should you not have all your communication "tools" at your disposal. The proof is in the pudding....it is great to see horses who are encouraged to develop their own personalities.
Thank you for your message! I understand why you would link the pee pee to treats. I would have thought the same, but only he does this whilst cuddles or brushing too... so, it like his happy-sign. 🤣 On his heaviest, packed with muscle, he weighed in at 609kg! Years ago. And yes, you are really right!
This was amazing again. I love to see you do you video or video series on some basic liberties and work that is good for all horses and some tips and training on liberty and groundwork that is good for writers to do before doing mounted work or for doing just before getting on the for and instructed lesson or a schooling training ride.
I could do this yes! I think a video about solid basics that are - in my opinion - important would be good! :D Will take a minute to make tho! With all the examples, finding good footage, making something really interesting..
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you. I can see how much you love the horses and the training you believe in. It’s impressive. I think it’s important for young riders and beginners of all ages (as well as all riders ) to learn good basics on the ground to ad into training just before they mount for any ride. It can be so helpful for the relationship and the training or riding lesson or for before schooling a horse. So many instructors miss or skip teaching important fundamentals with students these days so again, thank you.
If you have the chance to work with any horses that are new or don’t have any experience with liberty training or with clients or students who are new to the training, that would be awesome too it’s a great way to see the correct and incorrect techniques from a someone new trying and even horses learning the process and trying to figure out the cues and aids. It’s a good way to train your eye to what is correct and incorrect.
I'm really enjoying your videos and I'm glad I was able to see you do this challenge with Flip and now this big guy 🐴💜🐎 I'm fairly new to actually watching UTube even though I have subscribed to many different animal channels but I always find knees I really like and yours is definitely one of them 😁🐎💜 🐴😍
Super leuke video❤️ Je kan heel mooi het verschil zien tussen twee paarden en wat ze nodig hebben in hun training. Ga je dit ook met Rede proberen? Lijkt me erg leuk. 😍
So cool! Shilas is a bit like my fjordhorse Moos. Moos is also a big clown and he looooooveeees to work with me, but when it’s not clear enough for him he will leave and he will try to find some grass. 😋
This idea is so good, gonna give it a try too to see how my horses react! 😄 Maybe you could do riding without hands on shilas for next video (as long as it stays safe of course) 😊
Loved this video! Thank you for taking the time and sharing! I have a question, I noticed his ears back often when working - what does this mean...does this stem from being dominant and making his position clear even when complying? Thank you!!
@@AlwaysHorseLove Thank you for the clarity. My new 4 year old mare, who is very dominant, does this when we work and i was unsure why. I've never had a horse like her, is involved in everything I'm doing with huge expression when I claim my space. My old mustang is not like her at all, so I am learning fast...he needed natural horsemanship and leadership, but she needs to be equal and free to choose or she makes a huge scene! Your videos and insight are showing me an option that best suits her - new to me but it's all about learning and growing, right :-) thank you and all the best!

He was just NOT happy with this challenge. But a great horse to see what he thinks and therefore I hope interesting for everyone watching!
I'm very interested for a video about Shilas history. How all began with him. How you found him, how are the first steps with him in tricktraining
This is absolutely perfect. I have so much to show and tell you all about him. I know everyhing so well still! 13 years back... cant believe it.

You could certainly see the difference in him when you started to use your hands! Happiness!!
Erg gaaf!! Maar ook weer mooi om te zien❤️
Shes soooo pretty
And I wish I could commit to working out as much as her AS WELL as having 3 horses, UA-cam and whatever else that goes on
👏👏👏 Props to you Eva
Thank you so so much ❤️ This is SO KIND!
Oh gosh! He's soo confused but still he shows how much he likes doing tricks😍
Hele leuke video!!! Je bent echt een voorbeeld voor mij❤️
So amazing! You two are awesome, just come across your page, and Love it!
Your playfulness is infectiously delightful.
Thank you kindly Linda ❤️
Absolutely beautiful the bond you have. I wish I could run around like you 😂💕
What a wonderful personality he has.
He did AWESOME! Loved the video❤ Keep them coming👍
@@AlwaysHorseLove 😆
So precious...He tries even though its wet and mucky.
De band die je met Shilas hebt is zo mooi om te zien 😍❤️
Shilas is an absolute king👑💪🏼SO beautiful😍
1 queen
2 she looks like Jean Grey
Beautiful woman, beautiful horse, thank you!
Such an inspiering video, i needed this, thank you!
Me too! I expected it to go better. But it was a very good lesson so in a way it went good enough ❤️
Eva I love seeing you and your horses. You inspire me to be creative 💕 and I thank you for that. Will you be releasing your book in English? Xx
JAAAAAAA GOOOOOOOEEEEED ZOOOOOO! 😂😂😍
Aww he is such a big baby ❤️❤️
I'm really enjoying your videos and I'm glad I was able to see you do this challenge with Flip and now this big guy 🐴💜🐎 I'm fairly new to actually watching UTube even though I have subscribed to many different animal channels but I always find knees I really like and yours is definitely one of them 😁🐎💜 🐴😍
Ahhhh thank you & welcome! ❤️🙏🏻
Great video!
Super goede en eye-opening video weer!❤
Fijn!!!
Very very insteresting and amazing :D i love it!
You two made my day, shilas is so funny🤣
Aww your horses r so cute
Yes thank you for this video i love it!!
Super leuke video❤️ Je kan heel mooi het verschil zien tussen twee paarden en wat ze nodig hebben in hun training. Ga je dit ook met Rede proberen? Lijkt me erg leuk. 😍
Awwww he is so cool, is he bilingual too? 💗
Heel interessant! Knap hoe je alles bereikt hebt met Shilas en zelfs zonder handen al beviel dat niet zo goed. 🤩
U are really great!!!
Who need hands if Shilas fully understand Dutch better than me ?!... :)
Great message at lastl 4 min of this video!
So cool! Shilas is a bit like my fjordhorse Moos. Moos is also a big clown and he looooooveeees to work with me, but when it’s not clear enough for him he will leave and he will try to find some grass. 😋
Sounds VERY much like each other! 😀
BEAUTIFUL!
This idea is so good, gonna give it a try too to see how my horses react! 😄 Maybe you could do riding without hands on shilas for next video (as long as it stays safe of course) 😊
Omg first ❤
Loved this video
Love your work 👌🥰
Love this SO much 💞
True words about horse personalities 👌🏻😊
THICCEST and most robust dressage horse I’ve ever seen! He’s beautiful 😂
Yessss he is a big chonker ahahahah
Loved this video! Thank you for taking the time and sharing!
I have a question, I noticed his ears back often when working - what does this mean...does this stem from being dominant and making his position clear even when complying?
Thank you!!
Its mostly intense focus but with Shilas in this video also a bit of dominance yes!
@@AlwaysHorseLove
Thank you for the clarity.
Love this vid so much!!
Mijn haflinger heet ook silas😁 zo knap dat je dit allemaal kan met hem
Aawhh wat leuk weer
So glad I saw this
Omg can you show us in a Video how to learn a horse something like this?❤️😍
I love him and his blonde eyelashes!
You should do this with your dog!
He is so good OMG 😮 he is amazing totally how old is he and did you train him from foal, stallion, gelding ,,,🐴🐴🐴🐴
Thank you! I have had him since he was just 6, he is 19 now. And I started working him in 2008. 🥕
AlwaysHorseLove you have done really well and come along way with your fur baby's. Hugs🤗🤗
He is so cute and beautiful
Shilas is such a clown😂❤️ but you two are amazing🥰
01:02 - Shilas: "She's ... I can't believe it! ... She's trying to pick my pocket!!!"
Am calling that magic wond ding ding dong🤣🤣
My gelding drops when he is happy and having fun it's a natural thing lol
Exactly!!! But it can be so weird for people that have no idea so I was like: okay let me just briefly explain this magic wand situation 🤣🤣🤣
I love your videos! What breed is Shila? And other horse, (Flip).
Shilas is a haflinger (from Austria bred) and Flip a Shetland!
so cute video
Yes!!! My dad just came back! We went to Finland ALL the time! We had a beautiful little rent-house in Hankasalmi (I am sure I write it wrong sorry) and we have literally been everywhere!!!
@@AlwaysHorseLove yeah you typed it correctly! :D that is so awesome, usually no one knows finland or if they know it is usually just curse words xDD Finland is just so beautyfull especially now when we got snow!!!
I did!? Whaha cool! I love Finland... want to visit this year again!
@@AlwaysHorseLove yeah you did! :)) oh and hankasalmi is not far away from my home town :DD you should make a video of that trip :)
I should! I wanna see the Northern Lights soooo bad!
