It’s crazy that joe carter got the out in 92, jumping with the winning ball in his hand and in 93, joe sends the ball air mail to Jane and finch and again celebrates the jays second WS in a row! Great to be alive in those years.
Wouldn't Jane and Finch be a foul ball? pretty sure it was postage paid to the Scarborough Bluffs.........Cheers, those years were something special weren't they?
All these years later, everyone who was on the Blue Jays at this time still says that they can't believe Pendleton wasn't guarding the line in that situation with a pull hitter facing a soft-throwing lefty in extra innings with runners on. Crazy decision by Cox.
As a Yankees fan I'm used to Winfield in clutch situations either hitting a weak grounder to the shortstop or a soft shallow pop-up to the outfield. To Winfield's credit he did hit the ball solid and delivered a huge hit in the deciding game 6 in extra innings. However, you can't ignore a .208 career post season batting average with only two homeruns and 9 rbi in 26 games, .136 career world series batting average with 0 homeruns and 4 rbi in 12 games. Even in his one clutch post season moment it is tainted by a questionable decision by Cox.
Even if TB was guarding the line that would have been a very difficult play to make. That ball was scorched, a little bit in the air and right on the line.
Incredible moment. As a Jays fan I'll always remember watching this live. Winning that first World Series in 1992 motivated the team to repeat as World Series Champions in 1993. ⚾🏆
I was working just up the street from Skydome in '92...talk about a madhouse of emotion. '93..my son was a couple months old. Almost dropped him on the couch after Joe hit that home run!
I was one of the biggest Braves fans in the 90s. It was very disappointing every time they would get to World Series and then lose but they will never be a team like the 90s Braves.
Are you kidding??? Lol. The 90's Yankees were the team of that decade and were just plain better. Those Braves teams in the 90's were very good tho, im not trying to take that away
This is arguably the most important hit in Blue Jays history. Most people pick the Joe Carter home run in 93, but the Jays absolutely had to win in 92 after several heartbreaking playoff disappointments. This is the hit that won their first WS.
Would have been a regular ground ball to third, but that positioning was off. It was 3-2 pitch that had to be right down the plate. They were pitching him away until it was a 3-2 count.
Bobby Cox was a terrible clutch manager! This was somewhat of a payback for me- i felt Cox blew it against the Royals in 1985 with the Jays. So nice to see the boys beat the former manager
In 1992, I was in the Skydome watching the game on the Jumbotron. We were seated in the 5th deck directly behind home plate. Stayed downtown celebrating until 3am.
@@ShatnerMethod They joined the same year the Mariners did. The Mariners still haven’t even gotten past the LCS. Only team left not to make it to a World Series.
For so many years, I felt sorry for the Braves. However, seeing Jane Fonda’s frustration has led me to rethink my original feelings about the Braves. Perhaps Atlanta was cursed precisely because Hanoi Jane was rooting for them.
That was great hearing Tom Cheek and Jerry Howarth again. Brings back so many memories of listening to Jays games on the radio.

man, nostalgia. some good world series games in the early 90s.
Happy 28th anniversary! God Bless Dave Winfield!
Geez...take it easy.
He's had HerpesA LOT LONGER than 28 years.

I remember this glad Winfield finally got ☝️
I was pulling for Dave Winfield to win this series.
That change up that he missed was a great pitch. I remember thinking he's got him now......GREAT series
2:54, the look on Jane Fonda and Ted Turner's face is Priceless!
I used to love when they show ted and Jane in the audience sweating eating there nails... hated them but love the reactions lol
Was this the same game where we saw Fonda with her hands clasped together praying? 😂
So happy for Winny!
Me too. He was such a great player.
The Winfield Redemption

Dave Winfield help the 1992 blue jays on winning the world series. 😀👍⚾️

The 90’s Yankees won 8 straight World Series games against those Braves

It's way up there. I'll mention Alomar's homer off Eckersley, too; they gained so much confidence after that game.
@@puckstopper25 Another contender is the Ed Sprague home run in game 2.
Winfield was a fantastic athlete
Charlie Leibrandt had a bad track record in extra innings in World Series games.
Mr May got it done, finally. Hanoi Janes face, priceless
Is Winfield the last guy to get away with no ear flaps?
I believe Tim Raines was the last. I’m pretty sure he didn’t wear flaps when playing for the Yankees.
Raines though Julio Franco chose to wear them
Can't belive he is a mlb announcer. Aweful.

He had all those talented teams and only won one ring? He's an underachiever
@@KeithFroehlich07 american league umpires were not as generous to the atlanta staff.... and rightfully so

The announcer at the end said it was a long time coming for Canada to win the World Series but weren’t the Blue Jays founded in the same year?
No
The Jays began 15 years earlier, in 1977.
