The Paradox of Plenty - Short Film

- Hey Folks! This is a short film I made about the pitfalls of collecting things.. Turns out the more objects I end up collecting, the less I actually enjoy them. I made this short film as a sort of exercise in storyboarding. As I'm getting older I find myself more interested in telling stories and less interested in just showing you cool stuff.. this is kind of my way of doing both while fulfilling the creative side. Thanks to Lee, Antoine and Green for their help and thanks for taking the time to watch! Leave a like and give it a share if you enjoyed it!
This was shot on a Canon R5C

What a fun experience I had shooting this! Very proud of how it turned out! Who would like to see a horror short one day?
Horror short? Yes, please. Btw, I really enjoyed this. Great job, Chris.
Absolutely
I love all shorts but epecially horror shorts. Unfortunately a lot of horror shorts have good potentials but very bad production quality. I am sure you would nail it! 🧟♀
*typo edit
Yes please!
A horror short ?...seems this was one 😁...
Unless you have a clutch of kiddos to leave these hidden treasures to..seems a horrible purchase...but hey..who am I to judge...
So yeah..give us your interpretation of horror 👍😉...
Best of luck Chris...
🌿🌿🌿
Loved this!!!!!! Classic CR, doing what he does best. I still think you're the best filmmaker on UA-cam.
Incredible. I love this. I love how you tell stories buddy.
The subtle facial expressions that are in total sync with the narrative was impressive. Chris has some acting chops for sure. Loved it!
Chris actually had a part in a movie too....I think it was Spiral...a movie based in the Saw universe....I totally geeked when I recognized him lol
great production quality, Chris is the best story teller we've got. Keep him safe everyone!!!
I had to zoom in on the label on the package. Description, rare fucking book 😂
You always have the best cuts, from beginning to end. Keeps me locked in
Everything about this. The videography, the subtle acting, and especially the message. On point Chris!!
You're killing it bro. Love it when you go in your filmmaking bag
My soul feels this on so many levels... The more you obtain the want... the less you want it... I have struggled with this recently in my own hobbies. Love this video, love how it was shot and your artistic vision is amazing!
You hit the nail on the head there Chris. I collect signed books and first editions by Stephen King and others. I remember the first time I got one, I was blown away and couldnt stop looking at it. Now, whenever I get one, I'll appreciate it for a moment, then put it on the bookshelf with all the others and hardly ever look at it again. Will I stop buying them? Hell no!
The snappy storytelling, the sublime choice of music, the tight edits, the cinematic lighting, the subtle acting, the choice of fonts and colours - all weave together to form a tightly knit banger of a short story. Awesome work! And feel free to make more.
As a collector of so few things, this does hit home. Most purchases, for collection's sake, matter so much more than just "some purchase". And I feel so many people are so much more miserable with more momey, because what they *can* afford takes away the charm to it all, the time to save up enough, the ability to grab it in the last second. Maybe I'm wrong
It's so true. Just like the 3 Carpe Noctem decks that live in my T shaped carat case to never get touched by human hands. And so it goes. Cheers Chris!
Потрясающий короткий метр. Есть посыл. Есть эмоция. Замечательно.
This was so great!
The quality of the video is perfect as always, but I LOVE the ending, it is so true I felt it. I started ordering more nad more stuff and I realized I don't even use all of those things and I buy them just to own them and probably forget where I stored them.
Hey Chris, this is some great work my dude! Loved it. Super clever and absorbing and really enjoyable to watch. More please!
I 1st saw you do a stage show with Spidey, and been watching your stuff ever since. You've come a long way, and I hope you go a long way further. ✌️🙌👏
Great video! Aspect ratio fits perfectly on my ultra wide monitor! 😎
**EDIT nice ref to the Magic Castle! 😉
Need more of this. Your film maker skills just get better and better.
This hits home hard! I spent years with GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) around guitars and effects pedals etc. and ended up with over 40 guitars and hundreds of pedals cramming all the spare space in my house - But over the years, I found that I was only playing about 3 or 4 of them regularly, and hardly used any of the pedals... Time to start selling off the ones collecting dust...um, Maybe tomorrow... ;) Great video production work, by the way.
MORE OF THIS! MORE OF YOU DOING WHAT YOU WANT! 🤙🏽☝🏽
Love it! Paradox of Plenty... kind of reminds me of Diderot Syndrome.
Incredible! Meaningful message shot beautifully with classic Ramsay humour.
Your color/theme/vibe choices for your videos are always SO satisfying. Total perfection and I can't wait to see you do more shorts like this!
LETS GO BROTHER CHRIS IM CANADIAN TOO KEEP US PROUD....TORONTO IS A FAN TOO...GO CANUCKS GO!!!
Love this! 🔥It has this vibe like Tarantino movies or something 😅
So true… amen
So true👊🏻
You're a great story teller! This was fun!!!
Do more!!!
Very cool. Keep up the good work. Sending some happy vibes you way. Gonna need a lot of people to buy your merch now. Lol.
I enjoyed this! well made, great message. cool transitions too
Thanks so much!
I was the same way with rare 1st edition Stephen King books until I lost them in an apartment fire and they weren't insured. I gave up collecting books after that. Now I collect puzzle boxes and have been caught up in the bidding frenzy more than once, lol. It seems so pointless but I love it for some reason. It's like Stephen King's book Needful Things. I think it's in most or all of us.
“Don't touch it.” 🤣
I laughed too loud at that.
Very enjoyable 🙂
I love it. What a nice story with super images and cutting.
Wow! Excellent story teller and visuals here!!! ❤
Lessgo! 🍿
Reminds me of the effect (forgot its name), that if you own something, it has more value for you than if you don't possess it. Example: There is this rare book. People who own one would sell it only for a higher price on average than people who don't own one would pay for it on average. This is why people often have trouble letting things go or charge too much so nobody would buy them.
Hey, don't remember having seen you doing fiction, it's amazing. Curious to see more of these. New gates are opened.
That was definitely a nice change up showing some of your nice filing techniques
Me and my playing cards...... Good to see that confrontation 🔥
The box being shipped from the Magic Castle to Houdini's house is a hell of an Easter egg
Well done . Your enjoyment in making comes through.
I see you’ve still got your acting chops from your short film days! Congrats Chris, this was a fantastic watch
This truly is a wonderful creation, which might give you goosebumps!
(I speak from experience...)
Excellent Chris, when you are ready I'm here for more.....
🥳🎉 can't wait!
Hey Chris, Very Wes Andersonish! love it!
So great! And true!
This is a very real thing as you get older. You accumulate things over time. One day you realise that you have many really good, high quality things. Many you have had for decades. Most of which have seen almost zero use as they are stashed away in the back of a cupboard somewhere. You never enjoy the finest things you have. Sad when you think about it.
You should’ve read some of it, when you grabbed it from the box and put it in the safe, 😂.
I’m a hoarder too, I own way too much adidas shoes/clothes/accessories.
Fantastic! More please!
OMG YESSSS, Chris, I love this! As much as I like your puzzle sovles, it was the storytelling that really hooked me on :3 I hope it pays off and you can give us more short films like this (if you find that it is really your passion, which it seems to be, of course)
Loved this! It was serious, funny, and true to real life. Thank so much for your hard work❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an awesome video!
This is just an expansion or slight variation from Chris' regular videos. Always very well put together. Nice job man
I literally yelled no touch!! Great piece of work!
👏👏👏 cant wait to see more!!
I like it. Keep them coming. I second the horror short! Since it has been seconded, let's speed things along, and motion is approved. Make it happen, lol. Plus, I'll help.
This was great!!! Can’t wait for the next one!!!
Hey I just love this. Such a nice production. I have seen a short where you showed how the video was made. You should make behind the seens videos. We would love that
Love the style of narration
I love these short videos. This one also had a good deep meaning behind it as well. Keep it up!
Can't wait 😁
Nice. Houdini House. Nice Easter egg
This is Great!! more please.
Great short!
Love it!
(Also, damn the buyers premium is costly. 😬)
We've all had our experience of 'oh, crap. Did I just spend that, on that?'
Love it 🖤
this is it. puzzles are good but your really good at this. everything about this is quality. its like you made an intro the whole video. been wanting to see you do something like this for a while.
This is cinema my friends!
Great job Chris, it was impressive!
This is why i sold my comic collection and I hope whoever owns them now enjoys reading the stories as much as I had.
Love your videos
Love it!
lol kove the secert room behind the painting super cool sir
I’m just gonna wait til a philosophy UA-camr makes a very in-depth video on this
I was gifted a few books signed by Kurt Vonnegut. They are still in their original packaging…I can’t bring myself to open them 😅. Definitely look forward to a horror short ❤
I know this probably won't do as well in terms of views and things, but this is exactly the kind of content I love from you, Chris. I don't watch the regular puzzle videos. But this? Or longer stories/documentary-style videos? I eat that shit up. You're an incredible story-teller, Chris. Keep it up.
Very true. Well done!
This was awesome! "Just one bid." HA!
Excellent filmmaking! Very relatable!
Nice job! Great video! ❤
Chris this came out great! And the smile 1st Shirt look amazing :D so amazing that i forget the meaning behind the video and want to buy one hahahah
Nice! Haha that was cool! And a great way to start the day.
❣️❣️❣️🔥🔥🔥🔥💗💗💗 freakin incredible ❤❤❤ lets freakin go ❤️ so proud
Fantastic short Chris. Very creative!
Love it! Nicely done.
As always,amazing
So true!!!
😂. Thank you for making my evening better
Lots of truth and lessons in such a short film. Well done.
Nice Loki TVA vibe video Chis, well done!
Great Job. Time to make a full length film and premiere it at the Montreal Film Festival.
Maybe one day!
So if you were afraid to touch it, didnt open it, and locked it in a vault, now you have a Schrödinger's cat? Could be an original, could be full of blank pages.
Great message...
That was great
You could always tell you had a love for storytelling with the epic intros to some of your puzzle solves form the past...but this was another level 🤟
Such a cool and clever story, shot beautifully - this was awesome, Chris 🤟
An artful telling of the problems of being human. Love it.
Thats a powerful message nicely done
Spot on.
