@oursweettravels We LOVE MokoLo 🥰💋💙🦍🤗 and, Respectfully, I just wish his nurse 👩⚕️ could’ve done a BETTER Job with his Gatorade drink 🥤There was no straw with his cup, and so it appeared that while MokoLo was drinking, some of the liquid was WASTED by being spilled on the ground unfortunately. That’s just the Mom in me aLways thinking “Waste Not Want Not”.
He is so active! I thought it was so funny to see him stealing the snacks and I was really impressed by how well he sat for the training. He turned his shoulder to allow the keeper to give him a fake shot so effortlessly.

@@renewashington791 You are so right about Kayembe's future as a silverback. He's learning so much with the two little girls in the troop. I'm certain he will make an amazing troop leader someday. Cleveland is expanding their gorilla habitat and hopefully, he'll be able to stay at the zoo as he ages. The keepers said that by age 8, he'll have to be separated from Mikolo and will go on to have his own troop. The gorillas move around a lot throughout the AZA zoos to help with breeding, so it's hard to say where he'll end up. I'm sure going to enjoy him while we can.
@ Thank you for that bit of information about King Kay 😊 and if you don’t mind my saying so, Age 8 seems horribly young, even for a Primate, to have to be Separated from one’s parents. The Silverback MOMOTARO at the Kyoto Zoo comes to mind in that he too was Separated Early from the troop in which he was born. I don’t remember at what Exact age he was, but I want to say he was 13 🤷🏽♀️
@@renewashington791I think Momotaro was separated from Momoko at around 6 or 7. They moved him in with Genki at 10 and they had Gentaro when Momotaro was 11.
0:26 I Didn't Noticed the Noice then Suddenly I thought, what Was that.?! Then I Played Again and It Was Mother Gorilla who was Making that Noise. WOW. 😍 I Watch Tone Of Gorilla Video But Never Heard Their Awesome voice this Close And Clear. 😊 Love All Gorillas. 💜
It was really amazing to see how Fredrika communicated with Kayembe through those grunts. We've heard the silverback Mikolo vocalize too and it is truly spectacular. Thanks for watching!
@@OurSweetTravels Absolutely. 😊 I Also LOVED How Mikolo Understand what keepers saying him to. He's So Smart. I Really LOVED IT. 💜💜 Thank You For This Beautiful Video.
I was amazed by how easily the keepers could feed and train the gorillas. I know it took a lot of work to get to this point, but it was quite extraordinary to witness. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.
. The keepers do a great job teaching them, but are they not allowed to be overly friendly or talk to them? I know I would be so happy and talking a blue streak to them and how can you not laugh at Kayembe? I laughed just looking at him waiting for them with his one leg up. People laugh at me because I talk to my dog all the time. Lol. I have always done that with my dogs,(I am 60 now). It's amazing just by doing that how much they understand and learn just by doing that.
I was bummed that Kebi and Kunda were around the corner. I tried to get over there to film them, but the keepers had just gotten up to leave as I arrived (it's at the end of the video). We filmed for three days but only got lucky enough to see the feeding one time. We kept missing it (going to lunch to feed ourselves). On the last day, we planted ourselves at the exhibit and waited until they came out to feed the gorillas. I didn't want to miss it and was so glad we finally got to see it. Tusa, doesn't typically partake in the snack. She was up in the corner at the other end of the habitat during the feeding. She ranks the lowest in the troop hierarchy and the keepers said she doesn't typically come over to get a snack until everyone else gets fed and only sometimes comes when everyone is done. She didn't the day we were there.
I love watching the keepers interact with the gorillas! Kayembe certainly keeps them on their toes.😄 Mokolo is very chill - he loves his treats❣️ That would be the best job ever, in my opinion. Thanks so much for sharing. 👏🤩
You are welcome. We have found such joy in watching this family of gorillas. I agree, getting to work closely with them would be the best job ever! We are just thrilled to be able to film them. It's been so fun. Thanks for watching!
I hadn't really thought about that but you are right. There were quite a few keepers out there feeding and training the gorillas. Next time we visit I'll have to ask how many gorilla keepers they have at the zoo.
You are welcome. This was filmed about a month ago. We've had lots of videos to edit so this one took a while. The girls have gotten a bit bigger by now. We are heading back to Cleveland in a few weeks. I can't wait to film more of the gorillas.
I'm so glad you enjoyed watching this video. It was really amazing to see this in person. We were so close to the gorillas and keepers that we could hear them crunching their green beans.
@@cattailer1077 there are various reasons: They don't have maternal instincts. They haven't witnessed the care of an infant before and don't know what to do or they sense that something could be wrong with the baby. These are just a few of the reasons. As in Jameela's case, her mom had a c-section and didn't recognize Jameela as her baby afterwards.
Jameela's mom probably rejected her because she was born via c-section. This was the first time a baby gorilla was delivered via c-section. It's wonderful that the vets were able to save her but sadly her mom may not have felt the maternal feelings due to her unusual birth. For Kayembe, his mom, Nneka, doesn't seem to have maternal instincts. This happens quite often in the wild. It was amazing that Fredrika took over the duties and began to lactate, especially at her advanced age. I have seen Nneka play with Kayembe, but she doesn't seem to know how to take care of him. It will be interesting to see what happens if she gives birth again. Sometimes, the gorillas do better with their second child, especially if they see another gorilla care for their first baby. Only time will tell.

I wish we could film wild gorillas. We haven't had that opportunity yet. Perhaps someday we will be blessed with that opportunity. Zoos have made remarkable strides in animal care and conservation. AZA-accredited zoos, in particular, have set a high standard for gorilla care. By providing top-notch medical attention and nutritious diets, they've extended the lives of these magnificent creatures by 15-20 years compared to their wild counterparts. Beyond providing excellent care, zoos play a crucial role in wildlife conservation. Dedicated zookeepers have shared invaluable insights into ongoing conservation efforts. Many zoos collaborate directly with organizations working to protect wild gorilla habitats, which are increasingly threatened by human encroachment. Moreover, zoos are at the forefront of breeding programs for endangered species. By carefully breeding animals behind the scenes, they can reintroduce them to the wild, helping to bolster dwindling populations. The modern zoo experience is vastly different from the zoos of the past. Today's zoos prioritize enriching environments and stimulating activities to enhance the well-being of their animals. It's clear that zoos have evolved into vital institutions, committed to both the preservation of wildlife and public education.
