  • To enjoy cherry blossom, we visited Yoshinoyama on a day trip. Yoshino is the most famous sakura viewing spot of all time in Japan. This video is a combination of cinematic vlog and travel guide.
    In this travel vlog we return to the place where our UA-cam journey originally started. Almost two years ago in our first ever vlog ( • VLOG 1: A day trip to ... ) we visited one of the most sacred sites in Japan Mount Koya. Yoshinoyama, or Mount Yoshino, which we visited this time, is one more location in the same area at the border of the two prefectures Nara and Wakayama. Both of those mountains, Koyasan and Yoshinoyama, are closely related in many ways. They are part of the same very old pilgrimage route network, which covers most of Kii Peninsula and has over 1200 years of documented history. When Koyasan is a religious center of Shingon Buddhism, Yoshino is one of the centers of Shugendo religion. Shugendo is a syncretic religion originated from Buddhism and Shintoism in 7th century Japan. It worships sacred mountains and puts great emphasis on spiritual and physical training. This goes well together with the fact that this part of Japan has a very beautiful mountain nature. Yoshino is located on the edge of those mountains and the area further to the south is not so easily accessible by public transportation anymore compared to the rest of the country. Yoshino and Koyasan also belong to the same UNESCO World Heritage site which is called Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range. This UNESCO site consists of over 200 separate elements of different types scattered around the peninsula. Both of us are very interested in this part of Japan and you can expect a lot more vlogs from this area in the future. At the moment of posting this video we have filmed already three days, three parts long vlog from Kumano Kodo, where we went deeper into the mountains, hiked pilgrimage routes and explored more shrines.
    Mount Yoshino is also well known for a huge amount of Cherry blossom trees planted on the slopes which makes it exceptionally beautiful in spring. It is said that there are over 30000 sakura trees. Actually, the place is so famous that calling it the best and the most famous cherry blossom viewing spot of all time wouldn't probably even be an exaggeration. There are a lot of very popular sakura spots in Japan and based on what I see, Kyoto as a whole is probably the most visited city during the cherry blossom season. Still I would argue that the first place should go to Yoshinoyama. First of all, it has been considered as such for over 1000 years in the classical literature. Starting from beginning of written history of Japan, that is to say 8th century Nara period, the place has been associated with the sakura and constantly praised for its beauty. The second criteria for such nomination should be the actual beauty of the place right now in reality. This is very subjective but as someone who has spent over 3 years already in total in Japan, lives in Kyoto and have been to Yoshino three times, from all beautiful sakura spots I have visited, I would give the crown without any doubt to Yoshino. I haven´t seen any other place that would come even close to the amount of sakura trees seen from one spot. Also, the surrounding nature and idyllic atmosphere of a small town with old temples add its own spice.
    Our goal for this trip has been to go as far as we can by walking without use of public transport, so that we could provide a good overview of the whole area to anyone who is planning their own trip. This video is intended to be a cinematic vlog and a travel guide at the same time. It was filmed on at 8th and 15th of April 2019. We hope that you will be able to get some taste of the exceptional beauty of Yoshino by watching our travel vlog!
    Thank you very much for watching!

    New subscriber here from your Koyasan video. I'm glad to see that you're still making content! Your focus on the nature and smooth edits made me have to sub! The music choices are fantastic as well. Thank you for all you do!

      I am sorry for the slow answer! I am just back home from 3 days filming. Thank you very much for watching, the comment and subscribing! I am constantly working on the new content. Most of my free time I spend editing, but because of the way how I edit it takes a lot of time. Kan is in charge of the music. She makes a list of potential music and then we listen together and decide what to use. We are right now in the process of looking for the music for the next video. Once again thank you very much for everything!

      Thank you very much for watching and the comment! It is nice to see that there are people who are following what I post! I have been working constantly on producing more content, but it sill takes a lot of time for me just to make one. For example the map animations which you saw in this video took me 5 days of more than 10 hours per day of work to get those done. I am trying to speed it up, but I really don't want to sacrifice quality for that. Once again thank you very much and I am sorry for making everyone wait!

    one of the things I love most about Japan is the train ride and I'm glad you are able to capture it's essence beautifully, the atmosphere and the sceneries. the things that other you tube channels did not show much of as they focus mostly on the destination itself. looking forward to more of your lovely videos! great job!

      Thank you very much for watching and the comment! I am glad you liked it! I am working on my next video which is going to be from Uji. The place is very close to Kyoto, so the train scene is going to be shorted but otherwise it will be the same style, just a bit more relaxed. The way how I edit those is quite time consuming, so I am slow on uploads. My goal is to have it ready and published in December. It is going to be a bit longer this time, over one hour. The cut is done and I have almost finished editing colors. Next I will have to do final sound mixing, some special effects, maps, texts and translations, and probably also some other things I don't remember right now. Once again, thank you very much!

      Thank you very much for watching and the comment, John! I am happy to hear that you liked my vlog! I managed to save the situation and get the picture, but if there could be a bit of clouds in the sky that location would had a lot more potential I think. Although with the clouds I would had needed to be on time at the location. This photo do not benefit from shooting earlier because I wanted to shoot as late as possible to emphasize town lights while still having colorful sky so I was a bit lucky and everything worked out very well! Once again, thank you very much!

      Thank you very much once again! I am very happy to hear that you like our style! There are more videos on the way, but I am sorry it takes me a lot of time to make them. Basically all the free time I can squeeze somehow I edit those and Kan is helping me too. I am trying to figure out how could I speed up the process without sacrificing the quality. There are a lot of small details I do which are quite time consuming. For example the map animations in this video took me about one week to get done working more than 8 hours a day. Our next vlog will be from Uji. I have finished the basic edit already and I am doing color corrections right now. Then I will have to do sound design (music done already), some especial effects, maps, texts and its translations, and so on. My goal is to have it on UA-cam in December. It will be a bit even longer than my previous videos. Right now it is 1 hour 7 minutes long. Once again thank you very much and I am sorry for making you wait! There will be a lot more videos in the future!

      Thank you very much for watching our vlog and your comment! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Dates are definitely important when planing such trip. The exact dates of the cherry blossom season vary each year, but having something to compare to always helps. For that reason I included the dates, but I am sorry, I do realized now that the place where I put them is not the best one. The dates were written on the screen around 8 minutes 20 seconds mark when I was standing under a sakura tree and talking about two separate trips. Thank you very much for your feedback! I had to make those more noticeable. Next time I will not only write those but I will also mention them explicitly. Our first trip was 8.4.2019 and the second one 15.4.2019. After arriving to Yoshino in the bottom right corner there is always a mark "Trip 1" or "Trip 2", so that viewers can see which trip it was for all the footage. Once again thank you very much for watching and the comment! If you have any question feel free to ask please!

      Roman Sudarikov - thanks Roman, just watched it again and saw the info. Maybe have the date at the end of the title? When you can, please do autumn leaves also. I already watched all of your and Kan’s videos and loved them all. Very much looking forward to the next one and another and another! ❤️

    • @RomanSudarikov
      @RomanSudarikov  4 роки тому

      Thank you very much for your support! I have checked and there was no dates in the description so I added them there also. They are inside of the text so I may still need to think about better place for them. I am sorry I probably cannot add the dates into the title, because it might have negative effect on the SEO and reduce the possibility of UA-cam recommending my video to new viewers. I am sorry, but if I would like to be found on UA-cam I have to take into account also how it works. My biggest problem right now is to find a way how I could edit videos faster. I have a full time job, but the biggest part (or almost all) of my free time I am editing and Kan is also helping me a lot. I color correct all the footage, do maps, texts and other effects. All of this takes a lot of time but I would like to keep this style. I am trying to find a way to upload more without sacrificing it. Right now I am editing Uji after which will follow three vlogs from Kumano Kodo. Then, last autumn I shot two vlogs, long Mount Hiei vlog and shorter vlog from Sanzenin in Ohara. Those will have autumn leaves. Mount Hiei was a request by viewer in the comments. There are also not vlog style videos I have shot. By asking autumn leaves do you mean that you would like to see Yoshino in autumn or just autumn in general?

    • @tintinla6188
      @tintinla6188 4 роки тому +1

      Roman Sudarikov - Perfect Roman! Thanks very much for sharing and very much appreciate the time you and Kan spent to create these wonderful videos. Please do whatever is best for you as to the date (I don’t know anything about UA-cam policy). Autumn leaves in general and whichever places you two like to explore please. I plan to visit Japan in late November this year so wonder when best to visit for the peak foliage leaves in Kyoto. Ps. I like that you also provide captions of your conversations with each other; feeling inclusive! 😍

    • @RomanSudarikov
      @RomanSudarikov  4 роки тому +1

      Autumn leaves videos are on the list, but I am so behind on editing that it will take still a lot of time before I can publish those. I am sorry for making everyone wait! Kyoto is quite large places so timing depends also on what you would like to see. Of course every year is also a bit different. Places around central part of Kyoto are at their peak usually from around 20th of November to 5th of December. Norther parts of Kyoto which are a bit higher altitude or especially in the mountains the peak will be earlier. I think usually the peak of visitors is during the first weekend after 15th of November. Once again thank you very much! I wish you have a great trip to Japan!

      Thank you very much for watching and I am sorry for taking so long with the new uploads. Recently I had a lot more time to edit and was hoping to get this one done in two months instead of usual six but then I came up with more things how to improve the video and it took me four. I am glad to hear that you made it to Koyasan last year. I think overnight stay at Koyasan could be very good experience. I still haven't done that. I wish you to have a great trip to Japan next year! Okini!

      Thank you very much for once again watching our video and commenting! We highly appreciate your feedback! This time both of us have been wondering if we went overboard with the music. If our viewers also leaving us such comments then we clearly did. I am sorry for that! I think there have to be three different types of passages, parts containing speech, parts with music and parts only with the sound of the environment. This video is missing the last one quite a lot. Thank you for pointing that out! I am sorry, we might not be able to make vlogs without any music because it would require big changes in our style, but we will consider more when to use music and when not. I think this time the problem originated already in how I shoot the video, because I have been trying a lot of new things. Once again thank you very much for watching and your comment!

      BTW, I will be going to Mt. Yoshino from Kyoto and taking the same route as you did in the first week of April. The video helps me realized the platform changes from B Kashihara Line (platform 1-3) to F Yoshino Line (platform 4,5) at Kashiharajingu-Mae station. In your case it was platform 2 to platform 5. The platform change is not well explained when booking on Kintetsu railway website. Also booking a month in advance is a must as tickets get sold out fast during Sakura season even during weekdays. Will definitely refer your video to anyone planning a day trip to Yoshino, Nara.
