You've done a really great job of including everything needed for the Edexcel GCSE, while also adding a little extra and making it less dry than some GCSE focussed UA-cam channels. A worksheet with the sources shown would be a useful resource to provide alongside this video to make it even more helpful

Always found COs interesting. I do not blame people for not wanting to fight in wars of political intrigue, on behalf of arbitrarily created nations.

During the Vietnam War (1965-75) there were about 180,000 conscientious objectors. About 4,000 were already soldiers who transferred to civilian service. About 30,000 were forced to work at a civilian job (usually a hospital) but never got paid. About 5,000 were offered jobs, by vicious doctors, cleaning corpses before autopsy; 1,000 refused to do this work. These miserable excuses for physicians fired about 7,000 CO's for various infractions, i.e. long hair, facial hair, soiled clothing or merely a simple dislike of "draft dodgers." Some CO's tucked their long hair underneath men's wigs to avoid trouble. College professors flunked male students who got drafted right before final exams. Hospital presidents introduced an unofficial policy of refusing to hire CO's because of fear they would offend doctors, patients and patient's families - all of which was bad for business. Army officials threatened CO's who refused to work - payless - for 40 hours a week but remained silent when CO's wrote them complaining about lack of pay. The Army also insisted that CO's move away from their home city to experience a "soldier's hardship." About 3,000 CO's who got a job in their home city were indicted by their local U .S. Attorney's Office. Americans, who fled the country, number about 160,000 to Canada and 4,000 to Mexico. In 1977, Jimmy Carter pardoned all of them although only 2/3 came back home.

@@mizzmo I thought it might be a teacher I knew. I don't, but it's cool that Mrs Shah has used one of my videos! Hopefully it taught you something about wars. Thanks for watching.

Hi, there are a few seconds cut off from the end. Due to BBC and their over-zealous copywrite claims! But the video is fairly comprehensive for the content students need to know for GCSE exam questions on the topic.

I didn't know there were so many CO's. There was a movie about this subject on TV last night. These men were braver than the guys fighting with guns. This is not to take away from all those who gave their lives willingly or not. The bible says - thy shalt not kill but it's full of torture and cruelty. I am sure I would have signed up for the front line without any questions if I was a young man at that time - not because I was brave but I was probably working hard and earning almost nothing.

What happened to consctientious objectors almost of the time after they ending up in crowded jails with a lot of angry hateful against the world crooks of the kind who were written about in the Bibe in the old testament about how they had showed up on Lot's door demanding to come in? If man does not stop in solidarity see the Lord as king of kings we are going to be all doomed.
