@RANDOMFIX thanks for the discount code, just ordered mine today. Gonna ditch my launch x431 pros v+ 5.0 elite on fb market place as I have 1 year left before the subscription ends and the renewal price for it cost as much as this 689bt.
@babyfalcon9711 you will need more than just this tool. To be a locksmith you need more coverage. This be great to practice on before you start. Locking smith are regulated and may require bonding and lots of legal work but at least try it on your own vehicle and see how you do. Small invest to see if you really like the work and if it’s easy. Good luck 🍀

Hello Randomfix, Always enjoy and appreciate your reviews. Apparently Thinkcar forgot to include the car battery voltage in the 689bt. Just in this video I could see that feature in this 689.
Thank you for the great feedback and yes, the bt version may not have the vehicle, I will test the bt version tomorrow. Have you notice anything else between the bt?
@@RANDOMFIX you're welcome. No, I haven't noticed more differences so far. 689bt instead of battery voltage it has a VCI icon (not as useful as having the battery voltage displayed in the notificación bar)
For the Prius all keys lost I have not done a video as I had a key when I programmed my vehicle but I know there are guides on youtube for 2nd gen Prius that require a working key. Just search it on youtube and you will find it.
My experience with scan tools tells me that you will llijely want a new and better scan tool after 3 years. Lifetime updates equates to 3 years which is a common update plan.
You could be right but for home diy or professional use I would think it’s about 6 years and if 6 years later the tool is still supported I would say this a good tool. I don’t know if 6 years later the support will still be there but at least it will active and operational even if it running on order data.
Thanks for another great video. My questions on this tool: does if do cylinder power balance? Injector balance? Does it have a misfire counter? Anything that will help in diagnosing a misfire or random misfire. Thanks in advance
Yes, it does this but it depends on the vehicle the power balance is available on Ford’s and maybe others. You can always pull up live data for a misfire count.
Yeah, this is great diy scan tool, it’s not perfect but nonetheless scan tool under $2000 is close to being perfect. But I will get the job done. Congrats and enjoy I will be reviewing the bt version next week.
Guessing that if even a simple borescope doesn't work (except for their own), then no doubt you'd have to use their own oscilloscope as well? Also, does it show network mapping/topology? Didn't see it anywhere in the vid.
@DrFiero the Boroscope is an east work around as you can buy a usb c scope for $20 and the topology personally is just a visual reference that looks cool but has no really value.I think what they have done with the lifetime fees is great.
How many years manufacturer thinks their product should last? 2-3 years, maybe more? That will be that lifetime. Like in drill bits and threading taps, for example, when it breaks, lifetime warranty is over. You just dont get new for free.. Lifetime warranty, lifetime updates etc., imo is quite tricky subject..
You have very good points! Yes, I don’t expect lifetime as the tool and batteries in the units need to work that long as well. That’s why I recommend the wired version as it charges when it use. It will be interesting to see how the scan tool market changes and adapts in the coming years.
I would email my vin to thinkcar and ask for a list of supported functions. For home diy this is a good scan tool. Let me know if you run into any issues with the discount code in the video description
You can adjust the mileage after a repair but each scan tool including Autel has its limits, the best scan tool for mileage adjustment is Xtool but they too have the limitations ua-cam.com/video/QKNp2bFYcVI/v-deo.htmlsi=-3_T1_OfcXep1Wv_
@jmmotors4003 check out ua-cam.com/video/QKNp2bFYcVI/v-deo.htmlsi=-3_T1_OfcXep1Wv_ and this 689 is good but has a max of 10k kilometer adjustment but the Xtool has no such limit.

The 689 is a better choice for diy home mechanic . If you are using for work the d1 pros is good but the updates will cost you in the long run. There is not one scan tool that can do everything so start with 689 and the build on if necessary
DoiP, diagnostic over internet protocol, this is used on the newer vehicles such as jags but the wired version didn’t include these as it’s wired already.
Lots of those maintenance features don't work for most of the vehicles and disappoints... This is typical with most Chinese scanners! What's the point having them when they won't work with most common models... 🤔
That just means the vehicle you own doesn’t need that reset function. On Toyota you don’t need to register a new battery for example so why would need it? Then Toyota would have to change their vehicles. The best that can happen is no vehicle needed any reset function or learn function. It’s all a weird money grab meant to keep dealership service bays full.

between this and the launch you reviewed which one would u recommend more ? i currently have a launch crp123x elite but need a better one

There is no search bar in live data which really sucks. I checked yesterday on the bt version. Although The support feature is now working.
Whats better this or the otofix d1 pro ?
The d1 pros is better buttttt for home diy with no update fees I would buy especially if the coupon in video description is working.
@RANDOMFIX I do remapping so need it for resetting the dpf values not actually regeneration of the dpf
