I remember seeing them at Spaceland back in the early 2000s. There was like 20 people in the audience. After the show I talked to the keyboard player and found out they had no place to stay so I invited them to my apartment in Long Beach. She left a message on my machine saying they found someplace else and that they wouldn't be coming. I still have the voice message after all these years. I saw them again a couple of years later and they packed out The Echo with like a thousand people.
I wonder if Dave, to this day, has ever realized, he shook the hand of the most profound musical genius of our times....at some point in the future the whole world will know....
