Rather than ‘perception management’ it might be better the Courts in India to hear the various petitions before the honorable courts. Actions speaking louder, will manage the perceptions by itself.
As things stand today, suspension of habeas corpus in JK is becoming an excuse to abandon Civil Liberties in the rest of India.
A big case has been made on the need to deradicalize the society and it can’t come soon enough.

    • @libshastra

Absolutely. Our Judiciary acts as a parallel arm of the Govt. rather than a coequal branch that checks and balances the Govt. Our declining civil liberties has more to do with the unequal application of basic doctrine by the Judiciary.

Good point @Bravo, it is unfortunate that present Government lacks the tact. They want to project being brave, removing 370 - good step, What is after that ? PM speaking inviting Kashmiris to join and asking tourists go there, Bollywood to shoot there does not happen like magic. Tact is what needed not muscle power. Involving judiciary would surely help to hear out things.

This should not be about religion. It's about nationality and rationality. There seems to be a huge debate between two sides - the right and the Kashmiri Muslims. The right wants to alter the demography and the other side wants an independent Kashmir. It should be clear that altering the demography is pretty difficult (especially in a place like Kashmir) and an independent Kashmir is simply not possible. Since the dawn of time, Kashmir has always been part of Bharat. It is not like an 17-18th century European or African disputed area where an independent state could emerge just like that.
Also, I'm going to hate a lot of hate for saying this but yes, it is very unfortunate that some misdeeds of our army couldn't be pretended to not exist. When someone says our army disturbs the lives of the people in Kashmir, I would not deny the statement because it probably has some truth. However, it would also be a gross generalization to state anything more than that.

Gen. N C. Vij has given a comprehensive view of Kashmir from a politico-military perspective. The distinguished panel has spoken well on the subject. However, revoking the 370, 35A unilaterally and abruptly can't solve any problems. If Kashmir is still on UN Agenda and it is because UN Observers are physically present on the India-Pakistan LOC, therefore, it's not a bilateral issue, it's an international issue according to the UN Resolutions of 1948-49. Mentioning a lost opportunity in 1965 and 1971 is an assumption, Pakistanis only had two divisions in East Pakistan in 1971, about 200000 troops. India never had any win against the Pakistanis on the Western front. Anyway, Indian has to listen to Kashmir, it has to restore 370 and 35A otherwise, this will cause more pain for India. It's a disputed territory between the two nuclear powers, no one can change the status. Gen. Vij's assumption that financial pain will force Pakistan to change its Kashmir policy is a wrong assumption. Pakistanis have shown their steadfastness in the USSR-Afghan fiasco of the 80s and recently the NATO-US in the 2020s. Kashmiris don't like Indian rule, they hate the Indian establishment in their territory, they want to break free from India, it's a reality, no amount of money or resources spent on perception management or military means can change it. The sooner Indian leadership learns to form its mistakes and wrong assumptions the better it would be, otherwise, the problem from Kashmir will spill over to other areas. The greatest damage to the Indian Army is it's changed its mindset to train its people and face the real issues that any military is trained and armed to do, Ladakh example was a total failure of Indian military leadership, political mindset and diplomatic understanding. It's partially caused by the counter-insurgency war in Kashmir, because a prolonged deployment in the civilian population that hates you shifts focus from fighting regular battles with the regular military, which has long-term implications, as Dr. Sawhney calls, "Mental Atrophy of Indian Military." There is only and only one solution, give Kashmir's the right of self-determination that India has agreed in the UN and let the Kashmiris decide what they want to do with their right, to stay with, Inda, to join Pakistan or to be independent a buffer state between the two. India will never be strong enough militarily to keep Kashmir forever, Pakistanis will back Kashmir's for the next 100 years, the onus is on the Indian political leadership's wisdom to cut their loss and find an acceptable face-saving solution of Kashmir, otherwise, they may to lose more territory and also pride, the Indian 7 sisters states are under the red axe that can fall anytime. It can be avoided, otherwise, it would be very embarrassing for the Indian military and polito-diplomatic community to face that debacle. And Indian people don't deserve it; revoking 370, 35A, Citizenship Act. Farmer's protest over one year, Monetization, supporting communal violence and keeping a blind eye to Muslim genocide are not good signs for a 5000-year-old civilization, that is governed by a shortsighted premier and hardline cronies. The stakes are high, and hard-working decent Indian citizens don't deserve this outcome.

Pakistan won’t even be there in the next 100 years let alone support kashmir. This is never going to happen. If this happens, it’s a death sentence to the minorities especially kashmiri Hindu. This is just a pipe dream that will never become a reality. India either needs to be vicious as Pakistan and opt for a demographic change slowly.

Instead of worrying about india, Pakistan would do well to look for Balochistan and Sindh lest they break free from a radicalised state. If religion would have been such a binding factor there would not have bee. 56 muslim nations and Bangladesh would not have come into existence and Baloch would not hate the strangle hold of Punjabi muslims.
