It's great. Exactly because it shows something that your regular romcom will never ever touch. But unpleasant situations like that are part of the life sometimes. Not every anime exist for escapism and as source of cute waifus. And people want anime to be more mature but call it "trash" as soon as they see one.
As soon as I read 'regular romcom' in your comment, I had to check MAL for its genres, and sure enough, it's classified as a romcom and I'm like: "Dafuq? Not one part of this is funny and it's just a terrible experience (the emotional manipulation) to be in IRL? How is this funny?" Not gonna lie, I never thought of this as a romcom (based on what happened), romance drama was how I viewed this one

Oh come on, a male romance anime character with a spine, that's like the easter bunny, santa clause or an honest politician, a pure fantasy.
Gotta give every anime the benefit of the doubt. If the Male MC has a spine, great for everyone, otherwise, it's free real estate to talk trash at him
