Beast of a knife!! Love it! I bought a PSK Mountaineer with scandi grind. Somewhat similar to this one, but I think yours is bigger and with flat/saber grind. I like the French trade style. My favorite style. A real knife that gets the job done. I agree, not crazy about gimping. Smokey Mountain Knife Shop is an outdoorsman's dream. I could stay there all day.

The French trade style is a good all around work and camp knife. I agree about Smoky Mountain Knife Works. The thing is, I never seem to make it out of there without buying at least one knife. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Very nice. I’ve been going back and forth between the Highlander and the buckeye. Thanks for the review!🤠

I've never had the Buckeye in my hand, but it looks like I would like the handle better than the Highlander handle. I like a handle that extends all the way in front of my grip hand better than one where the first finger of my grip hand touches the back of the blade. That's just my personal preference. I do like the Highlander so far.

I really like your reviews. Even though that knife isn’t for me, I appreciate what you do. The apple peeling and food prep components to your reviews set you apart. I think it’s crucial for a knife to serve as many functions as possible. I like seeing how they perform in as many ways as you can show.

Hopefully I'll get to show more of this knife soon. Thanks for watching.

LOVE my BHK's, especially the Highlander! Great review! You are going to love this knife, nothing like the grand daddy of knife steels, O1! Love them, especially my BHK Big Jake! It's a beast!🥰🥰

I'm liking the Highlander so far. 01 is very easy to sharpen and maintain. It takes a patina and will rust, but I've had many knives like that over the years. I just keep them dry and they do fine.

@@MountainLife1 I fixed the rust problem 11 years ago, moved to AZ! Haaa!

The highlander is an iconic knife because it used to be the Plsk1

Yes. I have watched Dave Canterbury videos using the PLSK1, and my understanding is it was made by Blind Horse before Battle Horse and LT Wright parted ways. I wanted to try that French trade style knife.

I’ve been happy with the two I have. Got an older full flat ground version and a newer Sabre version. My older one came with a dark leather sheath and the newer one I ordered with their kydex version. The leather sheath I tend to use with other knives and I have gradually shifted to the locking kydex for more year around use.

It's good to hear you liked it enough to get another one. I think it will be a useful design. 01 tool steel is new to me, but it came with a very sharp polished edge. I have no reference for how easy it is to maintain the edge, but many people like 01.

I took a paper towel and some cider vinegar and put a light patina on my second one. It’s helped to not have to constantly keep up on mantainance and has made a more even natural look over time. Think I purchased the second in 2019

@@dlrmon1 That is a good idea. Maybe I'll do a forced patina to mine. I know it's going to take a patina, so it might be easier to just put one on there right away. Thanks for the idea.

I’ve keep mine fairly well coated in mineral oil...it will darken that handle until it starts naturally darkening. The oil feels a bit funny for a while but I do use mine with food.

I have always liked how 01 steel sharpens up to a fine edge. It’s not A2 steel but it’s easy to maintain.

That's a big boy. Looks really good. I really like that blade style. I've got a Joker a little like that and it's a dandy. I'd like to have that knife in scandi. I think I prefer scandi most these days...
I figure a belt knife should be able to peel and chop and apple or orange for sure. My knives do far more of that kind of everyday stuff than anything else - even outdoors. If a knife can't slice meat and cut cheese, what good is it, really?
    Great looking knife.

They didn't have a scandi grind at the store in this model, but they do make it. I have never used a scandi grind, so I don't really have much to base an opinion on. Most of my knives are sabre grind, and many of these are convex.
I haven't done enough with this knife to know how I'll like it, but the design is old and seems like it will be an all around knife like I usually carry.

I like the style of this knife and how it fits my hand. I haven't cut a lot with it so far, so I'll just have to wait to see how good it is in the long run. Thanks for watching.

Put some linseed oil on the handle and I bet you'll see the green.

I've never heard of Kizlyar. This is my first Battle Horse, so we'll see how it goes. By the way, I live in the Mountains of North Carolina, not Texas. My accent is a Southern Mountain accent. Thanks for watching.
