How about this, it doesn’t actually matter, nobody actually cares and it doesn’t actually mean anything. Root for who you want to, when you want to and don’t care what others think about it. Rules for life.

If I just like a team I don’t routinely watch their games nor invest time in knowing their full roster, the moves they make, who they hire, etc etc. If they win a game, I’m happy for them; if they lose, I’m not bothered in the slightest. The idea of absolute loyalty to a team that your literal connection to is tenuous at best is kind of wierd to be honest. I feel like alot of people only have a favorite team thats local because for a long time, thats the only team you'd ever have a chance to seeing. Nowadays we have almost unfettered access to any team in any sport from start to finish so why not find a team that is fun to watch, and if they spend a decade being terrible, why not pick a new team? I'm from canada so until the mid 90's there was no team that I could consistently watch so now for basketball I just want to watch a good game where both teams are competitive.
