  • Namaskaaram everyone.
This video aims to celebrate and bring to light; the SANSKRIT language, which is one of the oldest languages still in use on this Earth. It carries civilizational importance to the people of India, and actually, to the entirety of South Asia, with considerable relevance at one point in time from today's Central Asia all the way to South East Asia through religious or cultural contact. The language, albeit not spoken in daily life anymore, is still taught in schools across India, with many universities worldwide offering courses of it as a way to delve into our ancient culture, philosophies and traditions.
Its mostly used in prayers and chants of Hindus, Buddhists and Jains, but has been absorbed into the secular world as well owing its popularity through chants and hymns which are perceived to be very calming and soothing.
Following are a few of the singers who have voiced a plethora of characters or songs in Disney films from across the world, who have recorded something or the other in the Sanskrit language: -
    1. Chanjira Nimpitakpong - Thai voice of Belle (Beauty And The Beast, 2002)
    2. @HAPPYnewSPIRIT - German voice of Pocahontas (1995)
    3. Võ Hạ Trâm | @VoHaTramOfficial - Vietnamese voice of Anna (Frozen I & II, 2013/19)
    4. @ievakerevica6996 - Latvian voice of Tiana (Princess & The Frog, 2010)
    5. Cally Kwong - Cantonese voice of Ariel (The Little Mermaid, 1989)
    6. Nina Hagen - German voice of Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas, 1993)
    7. Christina Eshak | @christinae8062 - Arabic voice of Jasmine (Disney Princess Enchanted Tales, 2013)
    8. @JocelynBSmithOFFICIAL - German singer of Circle Of Life (The Lion King, 1994)
    9. @tinaturner - English singer of Great Spirits (Brother Bear, 2003)
    10. @mskumbhar1 - Hindi voice of Belle (Beauty And The Beast, 2017)
The video showcases portions of one musical recording each of these singers in Sanskrit, alongwith subtitles and translations of the pieces so you also feel what the singer is conveying in this precious language which predates perhaps, our entire lineages in this life.
I specially thank Ms. Chanjira for taking out time to record on my request, as well as to UA-camr @Mainn for his help in the process. ^_^
So, a belated Happy Sanskrit Day (it was on 12th of August, I just got severely sick so couldn't post the video back then), and also a very Happy Independence Day to my Indian viewers in advance.

The intro reminds me of the Taiwanese movie on Netflix called "Incantation" which has that kind of atmosphere, and slay.
All the singers in the video sound beautiful when they sing it but what impressed me the most is Cally, really hope her Ariel sounds the same as she did with that Sanskrit song, maybe she'd sound great!
I love how Sanskrit sounds, it sounds classic and soothing, also being one of the languages that has the biggest impact on my mother tongue, I'm happy to understand at least 0.5% of the whole language XD
Always a good video from you, bro!

LMAO the intro mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" is supposed to give the exact opposite vibe than a horror film ksksks...maybe it's that particular recitation which has more of a dark sound. It has a more popular Chinese recitation which is much less 'horrory' and more bright and hopeful-sounding I guess XD
True for Cally. The Sanskrit language made her sound like, 10 years younger hihiii.
And as a Hindi speaker, I have to say it's really fun and interesting to hear Indonesian (and Malaysian) and be able to pick out words which sound familiar, all thanks to Sanskrit's influence on both our languages....hi five on that.
Thanks for appreciating the video, means a lot!

Creative content as always. I understand some words because many Thai loanwords are from Sanskrit, Tamil, and Pali.
It's fantastic to listen to Sanskrit in songs because I usually get used to hearing this language in chants and prayers.
That's a great idea to transliterate their names to Sanskrit scripts. And does Chanjira see this?

Interesting video, I really surprised by how many artists have tried to sing in this refined and holy language. Especially of how familiar it is to me because of the Buddhism popularity here in Vietnam. Really feel grateful that you include Vo Ha Tram recitation based on the Sino-Vietnamese reading of the Chinese transliteration of the original Sanskrit - this truly shows how the language actually involved around the world.
I am pretty surprised with Chanjira's version of Pavmaana Mantra because that song was also used and popularized in several horror movies here as the chant while casting spells or doing shamanism. Also, Kally Kwong's version of Great Compassion Mantra is indeed wonderful, I really like how it sounds despite this was not really the version I grew up with. However, there's this version of Xiao Man-Xuan (Taiwanese voice of Tiana and Mother Gothel) and Hsieh Wen-De (Current Taiwanese musical dubbing director) was one of the most well-known recitations of this mantra that it such a shame you didn't include, if anyone like please check out it here: ua-cam.com/video/Bex9DEBPLkc/v-deo.html. And the opening Ohm Mani Padme Hum was also sung by these lovely singers.
I really hope you can include these amazing people on your next video if it's possible ^^

Thank you for your kind words about Sanskrit Nam. I didn't knew Pavmaana Mantra is used in horror films too haha, though I guess its association with Shamanism or casting spells is because the mantra predates all modern Indic religions and hence can be used by a person following any of the philosophies.
Thanks for sharing Xiao Man-Xuan's recording as well, it sounds absolutely gorgeous, I will definitely keep it in mind for future videos. :)

I do love Madhura in that particular Belle song though. On a whole she was a misfit perhaps but I didn't find her completely placid or out of place (unlike our Ariel :P)
And yessss, I'd loooove to hear Let It Go (or any other disney song) in Sanskrit. All the best for it!

It wasn't a comparison video. It was just a video to listen and appreciate the recordings of these talented Disney singers in such a classical ancient language as Sanskrit. Cally sounded great in both recordings to me too!
And if you haven't heard about Sanskrit, feel free to get in touch with a Buddhist person or go to a Buddhist monastery there in Hong Kong, they often use this language in their prayers or chants.
