I think Joey and Willow from Liv and Maddie are definitely one of the ickiest Disney channel canon ships ever bcuz she literally physically threatens him and makes romantic advances though he makes it clear he’s not interested. (One scene literally has her demand that he sit next to her and Joey says I’m going to say yes because I’m afraid to say no) Then she eventually wears him down and they get together and thankfully broke up but still should never have happened in the first place, it was harassment and ab**ive.
she also literally stalks him. i think part of the reason they became canon is joey is a nerd and a bit socially awkward and people who shipped them were like “he should take what he can get”, which is disgusting.

I think the issue with age gaps is less how many years (though that is also problematic) but *when* the ages are - 14 and 17 are so drastically different in maturity and life experience, whereas 24 and 27 are closer in regards to life situation and experiences (and hopefully maturity, though that's no guarantee).
Exactly ! Some of my friends say that 3 years isn't a big deal, but the difference in maturity and perspective on life between a freshman and a senior is huge. It's not the same as a 3 year age gap in your 20s

Yeah, age gaps in teenage relationships & adult relationships are different. 3 is a lot for a teenager but for adults it’s not. Like my parents who have a 5+ age gap but they met when they were adults & already working. If my dad was a teenager when he met my mom that would be weird & gross.

When Linda and Lawrence married I assume they adopted each other’s children, but the whole dynamic is so wholesome, especially because Phineas and Candace call Lawrence ‘s parents grandma and grandpa which I find so sweet.
Thank GOD I’m not the only person who dislikes Josh and Maya. I’m starting college in the fall, and the idea of dating a ninth grader is so icky to me. Seeing that kind of relationship on a kids show makes me worried.
I didn't like that ship being encouraged on the show when I was a teen and now that I'm out of college I hate how it was handled and almost forced to work as a plotline. The worse part for me is that sabrina was older so her interactions with the actor don't reflect visually the huge gap that the characters had, not only in age but in life stages

Even without the incest Mal and Hades would be a toxic relationship. There a a definite power imbalance. The reason Mal is a little touchy and has that body language is do to her caring what he thinks despite him not showing that he cares, and (like I said) the power imbalance. She is also probably still under 18- too young for him.
I don't know if it'll be on here but Austin and Piper from Austin and Ally. He tried so hard the prove he's not shallow and impress her and she took advantage of that, she made him throw away his phone, stop using hair products, and wear a potato sack. He got attacked by a bird while climbing a coconut tree to get her a fresh coconut water and she wasn’t even the least bit concerned, she was amused. I hate her!
It’s such a crazy show when you sit down and actually think about everything that happens, especially the one character Amy being 26 years old and pretending to be a high school senior, making friends way younger than her, getting herself involved in high school drama, and giving her ex boyfriend head lice, then kissing his brother to get even with him. Like her whole character is ick, and I’m surprised none of the writers, directors, or actors noticed how weird any of that was. She was a literal predator
I never really followed the show so learning that there is guns, (serious, not comedic) kidnapping and this level of betrayal and abuse in an endgame relationship on a disney show is unbelievable to me
@@catafer in the series finale, the villain also brings a gun to KC’s graduation ceremony and he shoots it in the air and across the room at KC whilst threatening the people there by telling them to stay put. I noticed when I went back and rewatched it that Disney edited that part of the episode out, probably bc they realized they might receive backlash for that part of the episode. Also, what’s pretty messed up is after all of that, KC and her family then wipe the people in attendances memory so that they all forget about it, basically causing all of the families there to not remember the graduation even happened
So glad you decided to talk about Trish and Chuck, wasn't sure you would but I would've commented about them regardless because boy does Chuck make me uncomfy. He comes off as super creepy in the way he treats Trish for basically the whole show. I don't want to think about how they could've possibly become a couple. I remember being super shocked and annoyed about the whole thing when the finale first came out and I still feel pretty much the same way.

Kim Possible is supposed to be 16, but they made a live-action film where they cast an actual 16 year old to play her, and she didn't look right because Kim's character design is based on a girl in her 20's.
Can we talk about how the Maya and Josh thing is the exact same story as the Zack and Maddy thing. The three year age gap where the younger of the two is obsessed with the older and in one episode someone three years older than the older of the ship turns them down for the age reason. It's not really that important but I think it's interesting.
I think they main difference with the two stories is the age of the actors. Ashley and Dylan are 7 years apart but Sabrina and Uriah are only 2 years apart, which would be why people thought Maddie and Zach would be creepy but we’re okay with Maya and josh.

Eventually zack dated other people and even stopped hitting on Maddie for the most part. He grew as a person. With maya and josh it’s literally her having a crush him saying that it’s not right but eventually wanting to date even though everyone was gaslighting maya about her feelings.

Mentor/mentee, good guy/bad girl, enemies to lovers are all very popular tropes in the fiction and romance genre that work...but of course excluding cases of incest, grooming, etc. To me, it's just that Selena and David have a strong, and at times electric, chemistry and if they didn't have a show as siblings, the actors could have played romantic interests. All that being said, Justin and Alex are siblings by blood in the Wizards universe. Differentiating chemistry between actors and the storylines of their characters is crucial, especially when an incest plotline is involved.
The absolute worst “””ship””” that I ever saw was when I was trying to find Harley & Aidan fanfic for Stuck in the Middle, and found fanfic for _all of the Diaz siblings._ Really really icked me out and I immediately just dipped and avoided searching for fanfic for that show anymore. People shipping any of the Pines with Bill are basically shipping someone with their abuser, imo and that definitely makes me feel icky. Bill caused so much trauma to that family I can’t believe people can fathom romantic feelings between any of them.

I feel like a lot of the people who did ship those relationships were like,, using Dipper and Mabel as self inserts. As in, the viewer found the idea of Bill (or at least human Bill) edgy and cool and attractive and so used Dipper or Mabel to represent themselves in a relationship with Bill. Also doesn’t help that most of the audience and people who shipped it were quite young

On Justin and Alex: there is a very uncomfortable amount of ao3 fanfiction of them, I hate it. And yes to characters not needing romantic interests! I think one of the best examples of this was Jim from Soy Luna- she consistently showed that she was way too immature to be in a relationship with Nico, and it was just exhausting to watch. I really loved her character once she became single. Jazmin was also a great character when she wasn’t pursuing an (unrequited) romantic interest. Also Lindy’s character development in I didn’t do it as she starts adopting dogs was such a great way to show growth and change without the addition of a romantic interest!
I love how logical caitlin is with these icky ships like “no bill is a demon, he should not be shipped with these preteens” like I don’t think that’s stopping the people shipping them😂
@@graciesophia3163 I'm not sure if I agree. It isn't but I think the ship is bad, I just think that the show had too much romance and not a clue how they should properly handle it. If they did try and put the two together, it might have added even more romantic to show that I think I had a little bit too much of that and they could have very well possibly really just as they have with other ships.
I really dislike how so many Disney shows stuck two characters together despite their lack of chemistry. I remember being irrationally upset that Best Friends Whenever ended with them trying to make Cyd and Naldo being a thing despite the two having barely a friendship. (Granted, I always shipped Cyd and Shelby knowing it would never be canon. So I guess I was just setting myself up for disappointment. Lol)
I honestly never took the relationships in that show seriously. I liked looking at it for the plot and the friendships but the relationships I was never invested in.

In that college dorm episode, I think they mention how he's going to uni a year early. So he was supposed to move to New York, and that's why he started showing up more later on (before the actor's motorcycle accident)
I think the biggest problem with Josh and Maya, or rather the thing that created all the "problems" with the ship, is that the writers of the show did their math wrong. Josh and Maya should be roughly the same age as Maya is established to be one of the older kids in their class. I think she's at some point hinted at being nearly a year older than Riley. Plus, if you do the math between when Josh was born in the original series and when Maya and Riley would've had to have been born to make them 12-13 in the new show, the age gap should be almost nonexistent; like 1 1/2 tops (provided my math is correct).

in high school i had this friend in my year, who when we were 14 was dating this senior who was 17. at the time I didn't bat an eye, I thought it was super normal, I was friendly with both of them. at some point the school found out and intervened bc the age of consent is 16 here, so one of them could not consent legally (they weren't having sex but still). and I remember at the time being like it makes no sense, the school knows nothing, what's wrong with them dating, they shouldn't be doing that, they love each other. and I applied the same logic to joshaya, I was like nah it's fine who cares. but then I grew up and looked back at it and was like why the hell would a 17 year old hang out with a 14 year old at all?? at that age, the difference is MASSIVE, no matter what the maturity level is, someone in college and someone is high school are at completely different stages in life. i wondered why the school didn't intervene sooner, we knew nothing! and why the hell would gmw encourage this, like I wrote one joshaya fanfic and I reread it and wanna barf cuz I'm like why did I think this was okay! and it was maya's only love interest too, besides lucas who let's be real they were never gonna make canon, zay didn't have any real moments with her, so all there was was josh like ugh, gross.
As a 17 year old with 14 year old friends I think having them as friends is fine. However dating a 14 year old is yuck I am dating a 16 year old which for me is still a bit weird cause my younger siblings are 16 as well but eh Plus he will still be 16 when I turn 18 this month. He will be 17 about a month after tho But yeah never got how seniors could get with freshman.

For me it's that they are teenagers and at that age 3 years mean a lot. Later in life not that much, a 30 year old with a 27 year old doesn't have the same problematic aspect. Is not only the age gap, but the range of age.

Speaking from having step siblings since being a baby. I can see it being a total different scenario from having an ‘almost’ step sibling from being in your teen’s. The childhood growing up together sibling relationship isn’t there and also no shared DNA.
Violetta just has a thing for "it is not biological so its okay" incest, which is still very much messed up. And I was kind of hoping that after Josh and Maya got mentioned that Nina and Xavi would be making an appearance, even when they aren't that gross, but still kind of creepy when you think about it
Back when I used to write fanfic, I wrote more than one with a non-canon ship included, so I guess I can't attack anyone else who does it. Still, I wish a great non-romantic ship could be left alone. Justin and Alex are terrific as brother and sister and I don't want to think of them as anything else. And though I remember when the final Descendants movie came out, some people complained that Mal and Hades' chemistry was too sexual, I didn't see it that way. To me, they were a completely convincing father and daughter.
I guess I could see why Alex and Justin is a ship, but you could just have a good, close, healthy relationship with your siblings. My brother and I are so close that people in middle school thought we were dating, but nope, healthy relationships with siblings are very real and exsist

Justin / Alex was a solid part of the fandom back in the day. Which was equal parts Sel's crush on David as it was Disney's aversion to writing romance.
My theory about Mal and Hades is that it's like one of the only duets in the movies and duets are a really good way to show off character chemistry. Think about it, 'Space Between' and 'Do What You Gotta Do' are both duets and people ship the people from both of them. Mal and Evie is obviously a far superior ship but that's my theory. What I'm saying is Disney should have given Ben and Mal a duet if they wanted us to ship them.
Idea for a ship list. Ships that should have ended sooner that could have been better. Like a ship that was great but got stale or botched later in the series.
Them being only 3 ish years apart isnt that weird that Maya and Josh have a conversation about potentially getting together, so them being together in the future wouldnt be an issue, but current time they are at a different place in their lives and shouldnt be together. Its like how lots of adult couple are quite a few years apart but if they dated as teenagers it would be creepy and potentially illegal. As for the near stepsibling relationships...if you are dating your partner snd your parents start dating, 100% fine. The parents need to be the ones to back off, not the kids. They were together first so the parents making them break up because they want to be together sucks. The problem with the age gaps is that they are teenagers and in the developing phase that it is 3 years are a big difference, later in life is not that big of a deal, just 4 years but during the teenage years, yeah it is problematic.
The one about mal and her dad was crazy to me because honestly I just saw it as mal being happy that her dad was doing a good thing. I can’t believe some people actually ship that. I don’t know, Cece and Logan I’m sort of okay with. I mean past the step sibling thing I took from Disney doing this as ‘you never know where your going to be in 10 years’ 99.9% of people don’t end up with someone from their childhood, they don’t end up living out their childhood fantasies, and they grow up and change as people. So while I didn’t see it coming, I didn’t necessarily hate it either. As it was actually decently close to something that could happen. But that’s just my opinion 🤷🏻♀️
I think people ship Alex & Justin partially because of the enemies to lovers thing but I also just think selena and david had chemistry. My friend lived in LA for awhile & ran in the same circle as David because they went to the same church & him and Selena were definitely a thing at multiple points while filming so I just think that chemistry makes people believe it’s something other than it is. oh my god! finally! i am so tiered of explaining how kids who grew up together while being siblings, even if not by blood, should think of each other as siblings and nothing more. this applies to any sort of familial relationship. if they grew up knowing they were family in some sense being attracted to each other is so.... god it frustrates me.
I don't understand why some people like shipping family members together. I have seen people defend this kind of ship with every fibre of their being with the excuse of "it's just their imagination/headcanon". Just because you can doesn't mean you should. People should learn to set boundaries with their imagination.

I feel like it's important to note that some people don't ship characters because the ship is "good" or "pure" or "wholesome" or anything. Sometimes it's a "haha wouldn't that be messed up" or this is wacky as hell and I love it because of that". I totally get what this is saying, literally any sibling ship makes me feel personally uncomfortable, but I feel like too many people associate fiction shipping preferences with moral purity or whatever, when some people just want to see something funny/messed up in fiction.

When I was watching Descendent for the very first time, I feel like a tension between Mal and Hades, not like character but like the actors, they have good chemistry, and I admit that I feel so uncomfortable during their scenes because of that.
AMEN to character's not needing love interests. I have seen so many things where they took some of the greatest standalone characters and went "Since they don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend, they must be gay." SO ANNOYING Characters don't have to be gay or straight. They can be uninterested in dating and that is OK. If all characters were interested in dating, I'd have no characters to identify with. I think the issue with age gaps is less how many years (though that is also problematic) but *when* the ages are - 14 and 17 are so drastically different in maturity and life experience, whereas 24 and 27 are closer in regards to life situation and experiences (and hopefully maturity, though that's no guarantee).

It’s such a crazy show when you sit down and actually think about everything that happens, especially the one character Amy being 26 years old and pretending to be a high school senior, making friends way younger than her, getting herself involved in high school drama, and giving her ex boyfriend head lice, then kissing his brother to get even with him. Like her whole character is ick, and I’m surprised none of the writers, directors, or actors noticed how weird any of that was. She was a literal predator

@@catafer in the series finale, the villain also brings a gun to KC’s graduation ceremony and he shoots it in the air and across the room at KC whilst threatening the people there by telling them to stay put. I noticed when I went back and rewatched it that Disney edited that part of the episode out, probably bc they realized they might receive backlash for that part of the episode. Also, what’s pretty messed up is after all of that, KC and her family then wipe the people in attendances memory so that they all forget about it, basically causing all of the families there to not remember the graduation even happened
So glad you decided to talk about Trish and Chuck, wasn't sure you would but I would've commented about them regardless because boy does Chuck make me uncomfy. He comes off as super creepy in the way he treats Trish for basically the whole show. I don't want to think about how they could've possibly become a couple. I remember being super shocked and annoyed about the whole thing when the finale first came out and I still feel pretty much the same way.

Can we talk about how the Maya and Josh thing is the exact same story as the Zack and Maddy thing. The three year age gap where the younger of the two is obsessed with the older and in one episode someone three years older than the older of the ship turns them down for the age reason. It's not really that important but I think it's interesting.
I think they main difference with the two stories is the age of the actors. Ashley and Dylan are 7 years apart but Sabrina and Uriah are only 2 years apart, which would be why people thought Maddie and Zach would be creepy but we’re okay with Maya and josh.

Mentor/mentee, good guy/bad girl, enemies to lovers are all very popular tropes in the fiction and romance genre that work...but of course excluding cases of incest, grooming, etc. To me, it's just that Selena and David have a strong, and at times electric, chemistry and if they didn't have a show as siblings, the actors could have played romantic interests. All that being said, Justin and Alex are siblings by blood in the Wizards universe. Differentiating chemistry between actors and the storylines of their characters is crucial, especially when an incest plotline is involved.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember whenever I watched the Wizards of Waverly Place movie, one scene made me uncomfortable because their chemistry was too good and didn't feel like siblings at all. On Justin and Alex: there is a very uncomfortable amount of ao3 fanfiction of them, I hate it.
And yes to characters not needing romantic interests! I think one of the best examples of this was Jim from Soy Luna- she consistently showed that she was way too immature to be in a relationship with Nico, and it was just exhausting to watch. I really loved her character once she became single. Jazmin was also a great character when she wasn’t pursuing an (unrequited) romantic interest. Also Lindy’s character development in I didn’t do it as she starts adopting dogs was such a great way to show growth and change without the addition of a romantic interest!
I love how logical caitlin is with these icky ships like “no bill is a demon, he should not be shipped with these preteens” like I don’t think that’s stopping the people shipping them😂

If they did try and put the two together, it might have added even more romantic to show that I think I had a little bit too much of that and they could have very well possibly really just as they have with other ships.

I really dislike how so many Disney shows stuck two characters together despite their lack of chemistry.
I remember being irrationally upset that Best Friends Whenever ended with them trying to make Cyd and Naldo being a thing despite the two having barely a friendship. I think the biggest problem with Josh and Maya, or rather the thing that created all the "problems" with the ship, is that the writers of the show did their math wrong. Josh and Maya should be roughly the same age as Maya is established to be one of the older kids in their class. I think she's at some point hinted at being nearly a year older than Riley. Plus, if you do the math between when Josh was born in the original series and when Maya and Riley would've had to have been born to make them 12-13 in the new show, the age gap should be almost nonexistent; like 1 1/2 tops (provided my math is correct).

Speaking from having step siblings since being a baby. I can see it being a total different scenario from having an ‘almost’ step sibling from being in your teen’s. The childhood growing up together sibling relationship isn’t there and also no shared DNA.
I still thought Cher's relationship with her almost step sibling was icky especially because of the age gap in the end of Clueless. :(
Violetta just has a thing for "it is not biological so its okay" incest, which is still very much messed up. And I was kind of hoping that after Josh and Maya got mentioned that Nina and Xavi would be making an appearance, even when they aren't that gross, but still kind of creepy when you think about it
Back when I used to write fanfic, I wrote more than one with a non-canon ship included, so I guess I can't attack anyone else who does it. Still, I wish a great non-romantic ship could be left alone. Justin and Alex are terrific as brother and sister and I don't want to think of them as anything else. And though I remember when the final Descendants movie came out, some people complained that Mal and Hades' chemistry was too sexual, I didn't see it that way. To me, they were a completely convincing father and daughter.
I guess I could see why Alex and Justin is a ship, but you could just have a good, close, healthy relationship with your siblings. My brother and I are so close that people in middle school thought we were dating, but nope, healthy relationships with siblings are very real and exsist
There's a weird extra layer of context to shipping Perry and Doof in that, within the canon of Phineas and Ferb, many humans are shown to have relationships with animal characters like the secret agents or even inanimate objects (there was a guy in love with an ice cream machine...)

Justin / Alex was a solid part of the fandom back in the day. Which was equal parts Sel's crush on David as it was Disney's aversion to writing romance.
My theory about Mal and Hades is that it's like one of the only duets in the movies and duets are a really good way to show off character chemistry. Think about it, 'Space Between' and 'Do What You Gotta Do' are both duets and people ship the people from both of them. Mal and Evie is obviously a far superior ship but that's my theory. What I'm saying is Disney should have given Ben and Mal a duet if they wanted us to ship them.
Like I obviously don't ship Mal and Hades but a song like that should have been used with Ben at some point idk

Hm, I think, real life actor ages don't matter unless you're shipping the actors. Otherwise the character ages are the way to go.
Idea for a ship list. Ships that should have ended sooner that could have been better. Like a ship that was great but got stale or botched later in the series.
Them being only 3 ish years apart isnt that weird that Maya and Josh have a conversation about potentially getting together, so them being together in the future wouldnt be an issue, but current time they are at a different place in their lives and shouldnt be together. Its like how lots of adult couple are quite a few years apart but if they dated as teenagers it would be creepy and potentially illegal.
As for the near stepsibling relationships...if you are dating your partner snd your parents start dating, 100% fine. The parents need to be the ones to back off, not the kids. They were together first so the parents making them break up because they want to be together sucks. As for meeting/starting to like each other while your parents are already together, you already go into it knowing you have the potential to be stepsiblings and then absolutely not

The problem with the age gaps is that they are teenagers and in the developing phase that it is 3 years are a big difference, later in life is not that big of a deal, just 4 years but during the teenage years, yeah it is problematic.
The one about mal and her dad was crazy to me because honestly I just saw it as mal being happy that her dad was doing a good thing. I can’t believe some people actually ship that. The bad things about fandoms Is that it is usually filled with horrid and uncomfortable ships. The fandoms even sometimes ruin the show for me.

Recently I rewatched good luck Charlie cause I never actually saw the ending and I was talking to my dad (who watched all the Disney shows with me) and I was saying how much I didn’t like Spencer and teddy getting back together a few times and he told me I felt the same way as a child that I was extremely upset when he cheated on her and I was mad about it for weeks lol so good for little me
Character-wise, Maddie and Zack are 3 years apart, which is what the story is based off of. I feel like thinking otherwise is trying to create an issue where there isn't one. A 15 yr old with an 18yr old isn't too far fetched if you're in the same school. A relationship doesn't always equal sex.

I mean past the step sibling thing I took from Disney doing this as ‘you never know where your going to be in 10 years’ 99.9% of people don’t end up with someone from their childhood, they don’t end up living out their childhood fantasies, and they grow up and change as people.
So while I didn’t see it coming, I didn’t necessarily hate it either. As it was actually decently close to something that could happen.

I think people ship Alex & Justin partially because of the enemies to lovers thing but I also just think selena and david had chemistry. My friend lived in LA for awhile & ran in the same circle as David because they went to the same church & him and Selena were definitely a thing at multiple points while filming so I just think that chemistry makes people believe it’s something other than it is. They went out once but it didn't work out but David was actually dating Lucy Hale for over 2+ years (2007-2009) so Selena and David maybe went out somewhere around 2009.
oh my god! finally! i am so tiered of explaining how kids who grew up together while being siblings, even if not by blood, should think of each other as siblings and nothing more. this applies to any sort of familial relationship. if they grew up knowing they were family in some sense being attracted to each other is so.... god it frustrates me.

I feel like it's important to note that some people don't ship characters because the ship is "good" or "pure" or "wholesome" or anything. Sometimes it's a "haha wouldn't that be messed up" or this is wacky as hell and I love it because of that". I totally get what this is saying, literally any sibling ship makes me feel personally uncomfortable, but I feel like too many people associate fiction shipping preferences with moral purity or whatever, when some people just want to see something funny/messed up in fiction.

Why do people even ship siblings in the first place?
When I was younger I watched the movie Wizards of Waverly place on my tv when it was already half over so I had no idea they were actually siblings and I ended up shipping Alex and Justin until I eventually watched the tv show and found out they were siblings.
Any ship involving a minor with an adult or relatives is an immediate no. Absolutely not, we're not accepting any arguments.
Jalex would be better than Malex if Justin and Alex weren’t related. Even as a brother, Justin treated her better and respected her a lot more and was a healthier option. They tried to make Mason Disney’s answer to Twilight’s Jacob and they failed all across the board.

When I was watching Descendent for the very first time, I feel like a tension between Mal and Hades, not like character but like the actors, they have good chemistry, and I admit that I feel so uncomfortable during their scenes because of that.
AMEN to character's not needing love interests. I have seen so many things where they took some of the greatest standalone characters and went "Since they don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend, they must be gay." SO ANNOYING Characters don't have to be gay or straight. They can be uninterested in dating and that is OK. If all characters were interested in dating, I'd have no characters to identify with. That would be sad.
