Damn man, you are responsible for my TBR becoming a very threatening mass that is slowly giving my house its own pull of gravity. I think my neighbors house is now two inches closer. Great stuff!
@@FIT2BREAD I rewatched your slump buster's vid 5 minutes ago and am probably going to pull the trigger on Blindsight... But it is a REALLY close race between that and Starfish. Will have made my choice by the end of the hour.
@@FIT2BREAD Okay, decided on Starfish because I like the idea of fighting claustrophobia for a while before launching back into wide open space. Purchased and started.
@@FIT2BREAD Finished Starfish, and... A little unexpectedly dark in some ways, but so worthwhile that I am on to Blindsight right away. It is great to find a new author. I would be interested in your most memorable DNFs and why, or the books you have reread the most times and why. Your thought process behind your likes and dislikes have been very helpful.
I paused this one several times to take notes and add to my TBR. I can't wait to hear what more you have to say about Ellison. I agree that his author's voice can overwhelm a story, and I'm curious to see how much our opinions do and don't align. Another great vid! And a great excuse to pause my schoolwork for a few minutes, thanks!
Thanks, for me Eillison is hit or miss. He was very talented but I also have also felt that even his best work, was always a step or two short of being really great
Great Trace. Also on my video page, the videos that will be a good resource for you are my Top 210 Science Fiction Books Episode and the Where to start with scifi/scifi for beginners episode. Hope it's helpful
For me, Freeze Frame Revolution was a pleasant introduction to Peter Watts. Then I read Blindsight and was just amazed. Outstanding book that I will continue to think about for quite awhile. I like the idea of trying a novella first before committing to an author. I may have to try that strategy with Alastair Reynold and Slow Bullets... but not until I finish Echopraxia.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'm looking forward to reading Binti. I haven't read Slow Bullets yet but there are a couple of other Alastair Reynolds novellas I really enjoyed: Diamond Dogs (fantastic sci-fi horror) and The Six Directions of Space (space opera with multiverse theme)
Hi, I just finished Snow Crash and am reading short stories from Alistair Reynolds from Beyond the Aquila Rift. I am just starting the Revelation Space series. Although I have read Chasm City years ago aswell as House of Suns. I hear alot of ppl say his short stories and Novellas are much better than his Novels. So far I have really enjoyed all of it. What is your opinion. I will read Revilation Space series regardless. I think tou should make a video on the differences of Reynolds, Options.
Thanks. Thay would be an interesting video. House of Suns is great, but great in that I love it when I read it. It's not a read that stays with me tho. Revelation Space is probably the stronger read, but I also agree his short fiction relative to other short fiction is stronger than his long fiction, relative to other long fiction
few months ago i read the ted chiang, collection. Left the mentioned novells as i think i have watched Arrival maybe 50 times. THe one liked very much was a fantasy, "Hell is the Absence of God" it had angels in everyday life. Great novelette that one.
@jood waleed I appreciate it. I always hope to have further reach. Let me ask you...is there fiction, in Arabic, you are aware of that has been translated to English (scifi) that you'd recommend or would like to see me read?
@@FIT2BREAD Yes of course there is a lot of science fiction in Arabic but I am interested in English Sci fi and didn't read anything Arabic, if I found any book translated to English I will inform you. best regards.
no way I'd put my life in the hands of an AI called the Chimp Arrival was really beautiful sci-fi film didn't know it was based on a book and hard to believe the book is even better but guess the book doesn't have Amy Adams haha never much impressed with the little of ellison I've read also heard he had bad personal rep with other writers but was famous for having 250,000 books in his mansion

I liked the book/story so much more than the movie. And agree with you on "He'll is..."
👍
thanks for the thumbs up!
Do you like Peter F. Hamilton?
I do
I know he's known for thick tomes, but there is one called Light Chaser which is less than 200 pages.
