The poor man's Audi 4 that stands out from the crowd not only in looks but performance as well! That's where the German carmakers out shine their Japanese & American competitors. Keep up the great work!...Thank you also Joe for another great review!
The rims in this video are not the stock rims that come with the GLI. The ones in this video are very nice...but I really like the stock rims too (even though they're only 18").
Just bought one yesterday. Six speed manual. Took it to a set of s-curves that we have locally and wow, this car handles very well. It has the DCC and apparently that must make a big difference as every car I have driven starts sliding at the speeds I was going, this car pulled even tighter into the corner and was asking for more. So far very happy with the purchase. Chose it over the Civic si and the WRX. Great price, performance, and classy balance.
Glad to c the Jetta looking more German than American cars I had the 00 jeta 1.8T That year started it all for compact cars the blue lightning dash with the red needles, roof antenna, side signal markers, full size spare tire ,switch blade key Yeah others had that but for a compact four door car like Volkswagen all of that and some for 21,000 at that time.
I drove one today and it reminded me of my "old" 2017 GTI with the same power and the grabby brakes but more comfortable and more spacious. The thing I disliked was the too short and too low arm rest, plus I wish that dual exhaust would sound like the GTI.
Wang Long, do you know if there's coilovers or lowering springs for these now available in the market? I'm looking to purchase this same one, but I want to be able to lower it, preferably on coilovers. Please let me know!
There's much to like about the new GLI, chief among the features is the fact that it shares the platform, engine, and drive train with the GTI. Unfortunately, the GLI's trim levels in the US look like they were designed by throwing darts blindfolded at a target. Most bizarre is restricting"dynamic chassis control" to the limited edition "35" trim and not including it on the higher Autobahn level. It's especially puzzling given the fact that in Canada DCC is on the top trim "35" level rather than on the only other trim level, the "GLI." It makes no sense but I suspect the reason lies in supply chain issues in which components required for DCC are in short supply in Europe. Sufficient to cover the smaller Canadian market but insufficient for more than the limited 35th Anniversary edition in the US. I suspect that once the supply of the "35" vehicles is exhausted VW will straighten out the trim options and at least offer it as standard equipment on the highest Autobahn trim level.
Interesting thoughts. I wasn't sure if they tried making the 35th a bit more of the race inspired version by keeping it light with no power seats, no sunroof, etc. and therefore put the DCC on it as well. Just guessing. Bought mine yesterday and love it!
Of the 3 available models (S, 35th & Autobahn) I prefer the 35th. The one thing that would make it the perfect car for me would be for it to have the digital cockpit, sadly that is only available on the Autobahn trim...

Looks great in red with black and those black wheels are nice..those and the ones from the VW Golf MK7 R/T-Roc R those are my favorite factory VW wheel design. The car is cool, all it needs is an aftermarket exhaust. For a cool, sporty, real sound. And yes, the GLI badge on the steering wheel was much more cooler in red. It's a GLI...people need to see that. If VW would have made this car in colab with aftermarket companies for the wheels and the exhaust, maybe even Brembo for brakes that would have been fireee. Not the standard wheels, 18" with redline. Relax on the interior color highlights. Krauts don't do it. This is rad for them. Love mine, under 24K before tax. And the gray is better. Red highlights pop.
GLI Autobahn addresses some of the concerns here, including larger infotainment screen and power seat. But, I still cannot help but feel like the interior is still cheap. No rear vents for $29k or $31k (Autobahn) - Other cars will have that for that price point. Also, the hard plastic near the driver’s knee isn’t so great. Also, no reason why you can’t get Comfort mode on the Autobahn as well.

Question... your opinion... which is the better overall car between these two... 2019 VW Jetta GLI vs 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N-Line (w/ the upgraded tech pack). VR V6, AWD, then I'm in. I'm tired of inline 4 cylinder turbos that are only rear or front wheel drive. This Jetta has the looks that deserves that V6 and AWD. what a waste.
@@recon_ron7746 that's a slight exaggeration Recon. AWD and two more cylinders would add about 250 lbs. besides, the extra hp. would make up for the added weight. It's just that I hate 4 bangers. and if you get all four seasons like I do,only rear or front wheel drive in the snow is next to useless. That's just the way I feel.
KrazyWorldWars that used to be true, but VW has their mpg specs on point now. My 2017 GTI is rated 33city/37hwy. I’ve gotten 42mpg hwy and 35 city, and that’s when it was stock as well as when it’s been tuned and modified.
Raiti's Rides In 1994 I bought a 1990 GLI with about 70k miles. It had full Recaro seats from the factory. It wasn't a very fast car, but it had the steering and driving feel similar to my STi and was very fun to drive. The Jetta did have many parts that needed to be replaced, VW quality wasn't great back then. The GLI was a rare Jetta, seeing one was like finding a unicorn. Mine was in near mint condition. When I finally put it up for sale, it sold in two days. I wish to this day that I never sold it. When I test drove the STi, it reminded me of how my GLI felt and that's one of the reasons why I bought it.

They own audi. They have the capability, just always selective of what to implement for Volkswagen target market
Thanks Korey! I really appreciate you saying that!
So very true!
Rim and tire size
If they added all those extra options he is saying people won’t buy the Passat.
VR V6, AWD, then I'm in.
I'm tired of inline 4 cylinder turbos that are only rear or front wheel drive. This Jetta has the looks that deserves that V6 and AWD. what a waste.
Good idea, make the car weigh half of it's current weight more
@@recon_ron7746 that's a slight exaggeration Recon. AWD and two more cylinders would add about 250 lbs. besides, the extra hp. would make up for the added weight. It's just that I hate 4 bangers. and if you get all four seasons like I do,only rear or front wheel drive in the snow is next to useless.
That's just the way I feel.
Just tune it and get more power if you know what that is buddy ☻🤔😏
@@stevenyia2778 are you one of the Fast and Furious?
I'm a purist. I'll leave the mechanicals to the professionals.
What kind of Rims are on this GLI?
Good question! I will try to find out for you!
looks like www.goapr.com/products/wheels_a01_flow_formed.html
How much horsepower do tanlines add?
25-50 HP
Very nice love those wheels
Wow .... that’s a very nice GLI ...
I am so glad that I could share it with you!
First I thought it was a KIA. Great review as always Raiti.
I really appreciate you always watching!
Why highlight wheels that are aftermarket?
Because I think they look great on this car and may give someone ides for their own.
I still have my 2012 mk6 gti edition 35 with dsg in oryx white ♡
MasterpieceHD how has that dsg been as far as fun and has it been reliable?
Does anyone have a model number on those wheels?
Looking fresh and you get "38 miles per galllon"... Oh VW just informed me they missed typed that and it supposed to be "18 mpg" 😂🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂
You just made my day!
KrazyWorldWars that used to be true, but VW has their mpg specs on point now. My 2017 GTI is rated 33city/37hwy. I’ve gotten 42mpg hwy and 35 city, and that’s when it was stock as well as when it’s been tuned and modified.
That's not a diameter (referring to the infotainment screen)
I appreciate you sharing your perspective and input! Thanks for watching!
Damn those supras in the back 😍
I knew people would notice those!
Great looking sedan but man does it have a big wheel gap. Would look perfect if it was an inch lower
Some coilovers will solve that!
I'm confused about the engine. The GLI has had a 2.0T forever
I appreciate you sharing your perspective and input! Thanks for watching!
True, however it was never the same 2.0t as the GTi. The GLI before 2019 was always underpowered compared to the GTi.
@@Slamwhity pretty sure the mk5/6 both shared the same 2.0 TSI (EA888) the mk7 gti got a bump which is why the mk7 gli is playing catchup
6:05 I like the blinking hazard button loll😜
I appreciate you sharing your perspective and input! Thanks for watching!
These have paddle shifters?
Yes they do.
That thicc Supra in the back 😏
It's hot!!!
Look up the 1990 JettGLI. It's the real deal.
When it wasn't falling apart. Mine was actually 91' though. Best VW I had was an 86' GTI that I did a 16v conversion in.
Did you have one Frank?
Thanks for sharing that input Jason!
What about the test drive?
It will be coming soon!
Almost like the 35th GLI need that rear vents though lol
I appreciate you sharing your perspective and input! Thanks for watching!
Thank God they didn't. The Civic looks horrendous with those God awful vents
