- For many years the GVVT West End Festival has been on my ' Must Go to ' list but for one reason or another I never got there. On the 30th June 2019 I finally made it there and what a cracking event it was too.
This video starts with a few words from GVVT Chairman Steven Booth and a quick look at some of the vehicles in Bridgeton Garage in almost complete silence. Its not long until the buses start bursting into life. After checks etc the vehicles make their way to the event where the buses operated a clockwise and anticlockwise circular service using all bus stops between Riverside Museum, The Botanic Gardens, Anniesland Cross and Crow Road which gave a great sense of ' The good old days'. Just watching these buses pulling into bus stops brought memories flooding back. All good things come to an end and all the vehicles, and crews head back to Bridgeton for a well earned rest.
Sincere Thanks to Steven Booth and everyone at the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust for all the hard work you all put in making this an thoroughly enjoyable event and for making me feel so welcome.
Super stuff. Takes me back.
Thank You. It's nice to take a little trip back to the good old days.
Excellent video 👍👍👍
Thank You.
Great video, and I know I say it every time, but I really do have to visit this place one day soon! Glad you had a great day there.
Thank you. This was my first time at The West End Festival. Great event.
Bring back the Auld busses
Wonderful vehicles a few with crash boxes on them we enjoyed seeing them on the route
Yes you knew when you had done a shift with a crash gear box. Great to see them in action.
That’s the trouble with First Bus. They are a large impersonal company (3 cheers for historic livery buses) who number their buses such as 37655. When Glasgow buses belonged to Glasgow, numbers like LA1255 meant something to some people. If only I had a cordless drill back in the 80’s when all the scrapped busses lay at Ibrox and I couldn’t get the white ID plates off for the rivets.
Fantastic, really enjoyed this. Hope one day I can make it up there to one of these events.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you get there I'm sure you would enjoy it.
Love the wee Midland Viking and the Ailsa. Wouldve been nice to see an RM in 'magicbus' colours from the no.20 Castlemilk rollercoaster! They made these buses work on the day, sending them up Montrose Street! Great stuff, thanks for posting.
Yes it would have been nice. Glad you liked it.
15:15: The unmistakable sound of a brilliant Mk1 Volvo Aisla.
I must admit its a Brilliant sound.
What make is the Aussie bus I know it's not a leyland / guy or AEC regent
Its a 1940s Albion Venturer double decker from Sydney.
Coachwork not to good
The glorious days when no one tied themselves up in knots worrying about "emissions".
I wonder whether no one ever though of installing opening roof vents in those despots like in steam loco sheds
Nothing like the smell of Diesel fumes in the morning. :-)
The Ailsa's noisy isn't it. I imagine drivers would need earplugs for a shift on those.
I used to drive them myself. It can be quite noisy sitting right next to the engine. Cant say it annoyed me, suppose you just get used to it.
Wmpte Alisas had whistling turbo's
@@richardschofield3826 Yes the Tayside Ailsa's had that wonderful whistling sound too.
@@mollsmyre thanks again wonderful memories
Where were the First Glasgow vehicles which were painted in retro liveries?!!
This was the West End Festival event The First Glasgow retro liveries will be at the 125 years celebrations next weekend
@@mollsmyre thank you
Will you film the 125 year event I was puzzled because the event was joint with First Glasgow, a nice video though thanks again and take care
Yes, I plan to be there for the 125 event. Hard work for all concerned I think 2 events a week apart. Great for us though.
The old buses🎩 better for your health💚 'yeah at leastin the summer months the double deckers should be given chance to 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢
Run in service again from april till end of august would be a great tourist attraction n make the General public a bit happier 😄😊😄😊😄😊
Yeah lets go back to the future ⌚⌚⌚⌚⌚⌚
worse thing ever was letting the orange strathclyde buses go and letting a stupid company like first bus take over, The Orange Buses should be brought back permanently back in days going on these buses was enjoyable, only look at the shambles of the buses and what have you this day and age a complete disgrace :)
