While living in Poland, I bought my first computer in 1988, it was an Atari 65XE with an XC12 tape recorder. Loading Atari games from a tape recorder was terribly long, so in 1989 I installed Turbo Blizzard and the games loaded 10 times faster than normal I had Boulder Dash 2 on my first cassette and it was one of my favorite games, the Atari version is almost identical to the C64 version, later I played other versions of this game. Of course, I also had other Atari games, but in 1990 I bought an Amiga 500, then in 1993 A1200 and then a PC. I also had several consoles, and currently I have a PS5
I watched my dad play this for hours on end at home, learning how best to solve each level by watching him play, then later I'd play it myself too. I must have only managed to clear all 5 loops of the game (caves A/1 to P/5) well into the 1990s, when I was 14 or something. I find the difficulty balance in this one much better than in Boulder Dash I, I could make it to the fourth loop in that one I think, I think I kept getting game over on K/4 as I recall.
Brilliant longplay. That game was much harder than it looks here. There was also a Boulderdash Construction Kit game, but I can't remember if it was stand-alone or came with one of the other games. I spent hours with that one.
Some levels (I, M, N) can be done much quicker and with more diamonds. But I think the point here is in the word DASH! This guy makes it in one long dash flawlesly!
nice game, I spent many hours playing it when i was a kid. The player here is very brave, but I suspect this was played with an emulator in slow motion right?? it shows really good control in some parts.
I think I remember more playing the first part, at least I don’t remember this title music. Also I don’t know what happens at 1:08.. but I think I remember that green ooze? But also not that it turned to diamonds. It’s been quite a while since I had my trusty commodore in use. Still have the computer, but sadly lost all the floppys.

I don't know about C64 version, but in atari 130xe and probably atari 800xl and 65xe, the protagonist would die when barely touching those enemies(at the same frame)
Here is the answer (use translator):En atari si se puede, yo lo he hecho.
These are the wrong rules of the game. This is too simple. In the original, you can't be with squares and butterflies. And the stones roll not only from each other, but also from the edge of the wall.
You normally can't but under very specific circumstances the "collision detection" will not trigger. It's all to do with how the game updates each square from left to right and top to bottom (basically, the collision/kill detection of the firefly only happens after it moves and "things" "move" in order from left to right/top to bottom, not simultaneously. If Rockford goes first (he's above the firefly) and moves into an adjacent square, then the firefly "moves" to a square that isn't adjacent to Rockford (as in the video), then Rockford is safe. It's rather complicated and I can't find the wiki that had it all in detail to link here). Also, the boulders falling from wall edges is a level-specific setting. It can be turned off. Edit: Found a guide on the "firefly touching": www.boulder-dash.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=639
This guy is the maestro. That was incredible
this game oozes playability and creativity still after so many years
The sights and sounds of this game bring back good memories! Thank you. 😄
this game came out the year I was born and I had this on a floppy disc along with the original Boulder Dash one of the best EA games for the C64

Those butterfly things used to give me the creeps in this game. Funny when they got blown up by the lava stuff though.
It's actually one of the hardest games ever.
it was too hard for me back in the day, I was annoyed.
A mysterious guy Arno did walk through it back in 2007 to record this video. I was never able to finish it, too.
Made o look super easy to make you feel like you failed your childhood! LOL!
Yeah, and it's why this game never appears on the remake
love the sounds!
This was my first Boulder Dash and of course my favorite one.
The person who designed these levels were insane XD

Awesome precision! Good job!
My brother used to play this game all the time, all parts of it. He was really good at it actuyally. I think he finished them all at some point.
Love boulder dash 80 retro love... Forever...
As a
had a friend that had Aspbergers that was a true king at this game.
brilliant game... and one of the few that actually still is fun to play... still waiting for at portable version of H.E.R.O 64
got a good version of boulderdash on the gameboy advanced. it has a classic setting which is a straight port from the c64 version
When I was little I called the fireflies “kill-squares”
Brilliant longplay. That game was much harder than it looks here.

me too, amazing something so addictive with just a low powered machine.
That's awesome to watch. Perfect run. GZ!
Loved this game as a little one, really good times! Thanks for the video. =)
Well played, sir. _Well_ played.
Oh the happy memories. TY
Wow. I really miss these games. I loved playing this. Why can't they remaster these? Wish I could play it now. My 64 games won't load any more.
Fast and accurate. Well done!
Супер! Вспомнил детство! Днями на пролёт играли на Atari, ZX spectrum.
Amazing play
crazy squares of doom ...
Simple superb game
Nie jeden Dżojstik się przy tym skatowało :D
Try it - it is actually sometimes possiblie to touch a firefly while moving without exploding :)

Very nice
Wysoka technika. Mistrz.
Hypnotic
Expert level Boulderdashing.
Level P will give you claustrophobia.
maestro!!!
There is an Android game on Boulder Dash, that resemble original caves/levels, graphics and sounds.
I think kinda the same game was made with Werner later. Only instead diamonds it was then bottles of Flensburger (Beer)
It's a game that's easy to learn but hard to master

Second computer game I disliked deeply.
First being the Pac-man.
I think similarities are there..
no 50/60 fps -- no likes ... disliked
