I love Polychromos and have been using them with the Prismas for many years. I am also enjoying Nice Little Town even though the paper is challenging. Those little mice are adorable.
Polys and other poly brands of CP are my fav!! Just haven’t got on well with prisms, sadly as the color range is gorgeous, need more practice. Thank you for your effort in sharing your knowledge 🎈💐💕
Erin, I am really enjoying these Polychromos lessons. I am new to coloring and need to learn the various techniques. You explain everything so well, and I am amazed at what I have done so far. Thank you, thank you, and please keep the lessons coming. They are terrific!
Erin! You just teach me so much! Gosh! I love your narrative as you color the areas and add ing the layers of color. I am simply blown away watching you. I think I need to give in and get a set of Polychromos... the richness of pigment and the actual colors are more vivid than the Prismcolors and this IS these prisma queen!Still using a set that's close to 20 years old. Lol I have been kicking around getting a set of chromos and this video made the decision for me. I truly enjoy your personality and chatting on your Videos... I love to hear you laff about things. You set a great example for other single Mothers trying to MAKE IT in this world and I hope You enjoy your colortube videos as much as I do watching and learning from you. A great deal of admiration for your resilience in tuff times. YAY ERIN! YOU ROCK!!!! Thanx, Bobbi
Thank Erin for doing these colour tutorials with polychromos, I have the full set and love the feel and look of them but you have added the extra dimension of enjoying them! Please keep doing these videos 😊
Hi Sue! I'm enjoying doing the tutorials for sure! I will absolutely keep doing them, though I will probably switch up the pencils I use from time to time.
This looks so good, one of the things I really appreciate about you is when you do a tutorial on something, you don’t do just one area, then leave and come back and it’s all done, you take us through each area. Thank you Erin! ❤️
Thank you so much, Keni! Too much movement up close can make people feel dizzy so I try really hard to avoid it, but sometimes... I just can't! And I'm happy you're enjoying the coloring! I'll have more of it ready this week.
I feel comfortable and just plain happy watching you.im waiting for delivery of my polychromos pencils as I have a small set that never seems to have the colors I need. I have prismacolors, but I like how the polys feel on coloring book paper..slick smooth. Your techniques are really helping me feel like I can produce worthy pictures .I'm not s born artist. So thank you. You just have a great personality for teaching..very comforting. Thanks so much.your time and efforts are so appreciated. Love Marcia in Modesto
I am totally enjoying this. I have fallen in love with this particular series of coloring books, so I am happy seeing these books being used. I don't have this particular book but am coloring along in one of the other books in this series. (1,2,7, Interiors and the Halloween books)
I love watching color alongs, especially when you are using a brand I don't have. I enjoy watching your technique and learning by watching you. It is very helpful for me to watch someone else. I do Art journaling and altered books, I tried fauxbonichi journaling, my life just isn't that exciting to journal every single day. I havnt tried bullet journaling.
Hi Jenn! Haha, to be fair, my life isn't very exciting either, but I do have a LOT to keep track of. I work full time, have two teenage kids, manage a household, pay all the bills, and manage this channel and its associated social media pages. I keep a main planner for appointments, work tasks, around-the-house tasks, reminders, etc. I keep a second planner for UA-cam & social media associated with Simple Art for Adults. Finally, I keep a small bullet journal that I use for budgeting and finances. I have income from numerous sources, so budgeting is a little complex for me. The system I use makes it a LOT easier. I'll do a video on all of this soon.
After listening to you and trying to match my colors I discovered that I actually have the Prismacolor Pencils...so that is all I know, not sure of how they compare to the Polychromos...but I'm having fun just the same....Nothing boring about this..its all fun...thanks. Cynthia, btw, I sent you a cup of coffee! :-)
Just received book and have polys. My picture looks good already excited to finish. Thank you taking time for us. Enjoy your teaching style talking your way thru all steps .
This is so nice, even though I don't have these pencils I'm new to colored pencils and you are informative. Great at explaining how you layer. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to make these videos.
Thanks for watching, Rebecca! You're absolutely right - the tips I'm giving here can apply to a variety of different pencils. This is just one way of layering, blending, and shading, though. There are plenty of others, as well!
Thank You for doing this color along with the polys. I have finally been able to purchase the 120 set am anxious to start using them so this is perfect timing😊
Oh I'm so glad to hear it, Nancy! They are truly a TON of fun to work with and the color selection is amazing. I love the earthy, natural colors in the set.
I appreciate the video Erin and your demo with the polychromos. I Recently got me a set of the polychromos and I am a little intimidated by them because they are so different than my prismacolors. I understand they are oil based . I am really interested in any tips you can give about them and the layering aspect. Definitely want to learn them so I can use them correctly.
Erin, another brilliant lesson! You have such a gift for clear description of what you are doing, how to do it, and WHY it's important to the technique. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. (P.S. Really loved that Strawberry blend :-D )
I was so stoked! I used the Color Picker app and it pointed me toward orange, which I thought was strange... but it definitely worked! I'm so excited to finish that page, too. It's looking pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. Hahaha.
Hi Sue! I'm glad you're enjoying it! I think I may start making a weekly video about planning and organization since so many people have expressed interest in it. Thank you for watching!
Enjoy watching you color. Very talented. I too have the Pollys set, thought I'd like them especially being oil based, but prefer my Prismas. Need more practice and this video helps so much. Would love to see some different journaling.
I preferred my Prismas for the first several months I had my Polychromos too! Now that I've practiced more with them, I really love them. Glad you're enjoying the videos, and thank you so much!
I was looking forward to the continuation of this one. Yay! 😍🤩 I want some Polys so bad, but they're not in my budget at the moment, so I'm thinking I'll order some Artezas. I've heard they are amazing and quite comparable to FC Polys.
The Artezas are quite a bit waxier than the Polychromos, to be honest. If the Schpirerr Farben folks ever re-release their pencils, I think those are about the closest ones I've seen. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos!
Brittany Miller , The company that made the S.Farben pencils ran out of stock or something and so weren't available a year ago...most of us that wanted them, but weren't able to purchase them in time had to wait about a year. They are now available again.
Catrena I am RIGHT THERE with you! I have several, also! I use my Johanna planner for my coloring/UA-cam planning & goalsetting, my standard planner for work/home/kids' school stuff, a bullet-style journal for tracking my finances, another little notebook for brainstorming ideas about UA-cam & keeping lists, my Rocketbook to hold notes and a more detailed to-do list for the day, my Johanna desk calendar for the most important to-dos for the day, and finally a Piccadilly journal that I absolutely LOVE as a diary. Without any of those... I'd be lost!
I just purchased the rest of the set of polys.. I have the 36 set but needed other colors. Can’t wait to get them! Thank you for this, helps me learn how to use all the colors 👍🏻
Loving this video. I'm new to the polys and I'm loving them. I have found it harder to find color combos for them than the prismas. Do you do greyscale and if so which brand of pencil do you prefer for them? I received some greyscale books for my birthday and not sure which pencils would be best to use on them.
Hi Kathy! The pencils I use for grayscale really depends on the paper. Because you can see through the Polychromos, they're a pretty good choice! Prismas work too, but they're trickier because they become more opaque as they pile up. I'm so glad you're enjoying the video!
As for color combos, I'm not sure if there's a Facebook group for that or not! Check out Colour with Claire's website, too. She has a whole bunch of Polychromos combos ready to go.
Thank you for mentioning that you use a smudge guard as I call it very depressing when you're 98% done with your work and you realize you smudge the background and now what. ??? Thanks again I found this helpful. Color safe. 😷🤓
Erin, my Prisma are Scholars&new. They dont sharpen well&one is split. They came with a sharpener. The tips are breaking & fall out. Am I doing something wrong? I sharpen the way you do. Should I invest in the better Prismas? Love FC, no problem there & my water colors. Purchased from Amazon, dont want to go thru the trouble of sending back. Thanks.
It seems like maybe they were damaged in the post or dropped. They are VERY soft cores, and they will shatter all the way through if they are mishandled. Prismacolor's customer service has always been incredibly good to me, so I'd recommend taking photos of the problems you're having, then contacting them. They should set you up with a good resolution!
Simple Art for Adults , thanks Erin, I contacted Prismacolors direct, talked with a very nice customer service,&they are sending me a return envelope, & will replace them. Dawn said this shouldn't be happening. Maybe just a defective bunch.
I'm so glad to hear, Tanya! I'm going to be doing a review of a Lemome planner that I'm supposed to be receiving tomorrow, and I got it for $10 on Amazon! I'm really excited about it. Haha. Thanks for your kind words!
Hi Janine! You've got it! It keeps me from "denting" the page behind the one I'm working on. The backs of some pages are black, too, and pushing hard can transfer the ink to the next page. The cheapie little "writing board" prevents all of that.
Is there an easy way to begin keeping my color chart/swatches in a journal? I can't afford the book on amazon and I don't know when I'll have money for ink for my printer again. Hobby and disabiliy income don't go well together. I thought I might be able to find a journal at the dollar tree. Thank you.
In this case, I'd actually recommend picking up some plain paper (cardstock, preferably), a hole punch, and a binder. I know Dollar Tree has the binders, and mine has the hole punch, but I don't know about cardstock. Mine doesn't carry it. Just punch out your pages to fit in the binder, label them appropriately, and go to town! I like it this way because you can easily move pages around if you need to do so. For example, in a journal, if you have one page set aside for Poly combos and it fills up, but the next page is your Prisma swatches, then you're going to have your Poly combos spread all over the book. With a binder, you can move things as you need to and keep it all organized! I hope this helps!
Simple Art for Adults That sounds great. Do you think the dollar store has that pretty tape use? I'm disabled and don't usually get out except for doctors appointments. I've been wanting to go to the dollar store since I've been seeing all the colorin book hauls from there. I wish they'd have a Hannah Lynn coloring book. Thank you again.
I am beginning to colour in Nice Little Town. 4 + 5. A problem I am running into in each of books is that when I blend with prisma colourless blender it is picking up the black lines plus greyscale areas. They are being dragged into light colour areas giving a muddy look. I use prisma pencils Has any of you experienced this problem? Any ideas out there? Maggie
Yes, Maggie! This is something that happens in the books that are printed by CreateSpace, and there's not much you can really do about it. It'll happen with the blender and sometimes even with the lighter-colored Prismacolor pencils. Really, all we can do is try to avoid the black lines as much as possible, and for that, you'll need a really sharp blender pencil. For me, I just try not to let it bother me too terribly much. Unless it's REALLY bad, you can't see it when you take a photo and share it anyway.
Maggie Pentecost hi Maggie, try the Caran D’Ache blender, it does not pick up and drag the prismacolor colour around. I had the same problem. No problem using the Caran D’Ache blender, takes a bit longer to blend, but better results. Hope this helps.
You're very welcome! They are definitely a different pencil than Prismacolor, but they have their advantages at the same time. They are translucent, which means when you layer them, you can see the colors below each layer. This makes it really easy to create depth, and that can be tough with the Prismas since they're so very opaque. Just play around with them on some scrap paper, and try to create your own color combos. That's one of the absolute best ways to practice!
Very interesting tutorial. :) Still, after using a blender, I can see a lot of grainy surface... Personally I have problems with perfectly smooth blend with Polychromos, I need to use a solvent and put about 20 layers to get it right... Very tiring and slow. ;) Prismas take about 7 - 8 layers to get a smooth coverage with no paper grain visible. Still, I think Polychromos are great for details. :)
It is a little tricky to get it done, but it's possible with practice! The paper makes a big difference in how saturated the pigment lays down with each layer, as well.
Erin, I am really enjoying these Polychromos lessons. I am new to coloring and need to learn the various techniques. You explain everything so well, and I am amazed at what I have done so far. Thank you, thank you, and please keep the lessons coming. They are terrific!

I’m SO glad I found you. You’re awesome!!!!!
I love Polychromos and have been using them with the Prismas for many years. I am also enjoying Nice Little Town even though the paper is challenging. Those little mice are adorable.
Just getting into coloring. I do like the unblended look at well as the blended look. Very relaxing to just watch you color!

Exceptionally good instruction!
Hi Erin, if you can till see white flecks, try using the Caran D’Ache blender, this will eliminate the remainders of white flecks. Hope this helps 😊
I adore how u explain so step by step the shadows and highlites
Thank you, Rosalie! I'm glad you're finding it helpful!

Yay! You'll have a lot of fun in it, for sure.
I love my polys and am learning a lot about how to really make them blend right. Thank you for this!
Enjoying this color along--i just got a 60 set of polys--...hugs, Julierose
This video has helped me more than any other video. I just want to thank you. GOD BLESS
Your work looks amazing. Please may I ask what pencil sharpener you use ?
I was looking forward to the continuation of this one. Yay! 😍🤩

Thanks to you & this 2 part tutorial I purchased a starter set of Fabre Castels.
YAY, Louise! That's so exciting! I bet you're going to just adore them. :)
I love journaling, I have about 5 different journals going at one time each one serves a purpose for something else. I also love adult coloring.
I don’t know how you color without turning the book, I sure couldn’t lol, I give you permission to turn your book if you need to, lol. 💕
Thank you for mentioning that you use a smudge guard as I call it
very depressing when you're 98% done with your work and you realize you smudge the background and now what. ???
Thanks again I found this helpful. Color safe. 😷🤓
I work with a personal ring bound, an ECLP life planner and an A5.
I am a planner and have journals as well- would love to talk more with you if you want- thank you for this as I want to learn and I did because of YOU
I'm so glad to hear, Tanya! I'm going to be doing a review of a Lemome planner that I'm supposed to be receiving tomorrow, and I got it for $10 on Amazon! I'm really excited about it. Haha. Thanks for your kind words!
Do you have part 6 of the Nice little town 5
You mentioned the cutting mat, but I didn't catch the purpose. It is for a harder surface under your page? Thanks
Polys are my fav.
I can't decide if my favorites are the Prismas or the Polys. I think I love them both equally! Haha.
I am beginning to colour in Nice Little Town. 4 + 5. A problem I am running into in each of books is that when I blend with prisma colourless blender it is picking up the black lines plus greyscale areas. They are being dragged into light colour areas giving a muddy look. I use prisma pencils

Erin, miss seeing your videos. Hope you come back soon
I guess that's really what you did in this particular video. Thanks again!
You're very welcome! They are definitely a different pencil than Prismacolor, but they have their advantages at the same time. Erin, I am really enjoying these Polychromos lessons. I am new to coloring and need to learn the various techniques. You explain everything so well, and I am amazed at what I have done so far. Thank you, thank you, and please keep the lessons coming. They are terrific!
You're so very welcome, Marie! I'm glad you're finding them helpful! I have been meaning to get the 3rd part of this done all week but finding the time has been almost impossible. I'll get it up for you either tonight or tomorrow.
