Dance Gavin Dance Blue Dream Reaction & Composition Breakdown
| Composers Point of View
Dance Gavin Dance reaction videos
When he said "The singer, Who is that???"
Me: (takes deep breath)...
Well, once upon a time...
lol "it's a long story..."
and now he can barely sing :(
LMFAO
To anyone that wasnt aware:
I remember hearing on the dgd Facebook group maybe 5yrs ago that a huge reason Johnny is so hated was because he forced his girlfriend at the time to take heroin (holding her down n literally injecting her).
Not to mention the more obvious reason that he'd always show up to shows way too high on heroin to function (pretty sure thats also what got him kicked out of Slaves!). He also has said that he was super high for all of DBM2 and couldn't remember recording it at all.
Just so everyone knows who wasn't already aware!
Still personally love his work on DGD despite all that.
@@DatHombre He also tricked fans and took their money and accidently broke a guys leg who was on the same tour as them which got him kicked from the tour.
DGD is pure eargasm, you should definetely check out more from them.
The singer is named Jonny Craig and is no longer in the band and its for the best since he was horribly toxic.
The harsh singer is named John Mess and is still in the band.
The band is still dropping great music with a new singer and I highly suggest checking out some more of their music.
Suggestions: Betrayed by the game, Inspire the Liars, We Own the Night, Prisoner, Uneasy Hearts Weigh the Most, Death of a Strawberry, Count Bassy, Jesus H Macy, Carl Barker, Head Hunter
Shout out to Will Swan holding that guitar down
Prisoner was my personal favorite, but honestly, any of these would be great!
Seconded.
Jon* Mess ;(
@@alexv0714 yeah that guy, you know, the cat
Will Swan has held the entire band down. He and Matt have led DGD through thick and thin and all anyone talks about are the singers.
This is the song that got me into DGD
Sames
Watching someone respectfully cringe through some of the softest screams music has to offer is so heartwarming. I constantly remind people metal is literally classical on distorted guitars. DGD is like, If pop music woke up with an attitude.
Love the videos and hearing your perspective on composition.
keep up the good work!
Love that Jonny is finally used in these videos. He was the best singer for DGD
Just listened to this album again last week. So so good. Miss Jonny’s singing a lot.
Jonny Craig is a legend. You should definitely do either a video on Slaves (US) or on his solo work.
This band is the kings of Post-Hardcore/Funk fusion. Every member is important as hell, and this album wouldn't be the same without ol JC. Love'm or Hate'm. Can't deny his impactful voice.
Love that you did this song! You pointed out everything I live about this song. ESPECIALLY the bass
You've definitely gotta check out Inspire The Liars, or something from their newest album. I'd recommend Strawberry's Wake. Both feature the current clean singer Tilian.
Yes, and yes. All of my yes.
@@jasonlovesmusicreacting882 too bad screamo guy ruin it
/s
@@FamineWolf I'm glad that Skrillex guy doesn't do that skramz shit anymore. He's better off making bass drops.
Gotta Check out HAIL THE SUN, they released a new song a month ago called "Domino"
YES. Their other new song also rips.
Just wore their tee today btw lol
@@jasonlovesmusicreacting882 yeah that song is probably way better to listen to lol
@@steezydan8543 I prefer Domino just slightly but they both rip.
Its insane how underrated hail the sun is defenitly my all time favorite band
DGD has sooooooo many good songs old and new!
love the way the "SMmoooooooooooothe" hits you. Same as me :)
I may be an unpopular fan, but I have not been able to enjoy dgd much without Johnny Craig... He was toxic, but my god... What a voice.
In the same way, johnny Craig with dgd was the best. It was just this wonderfully sad, angry, desperate sound together.
Johnny Craig is great and dgd is great on its own - but together, they were just phenomenal.
Dude we need way more dance gavin dance please. Lets do some from the new album Jackpot Juicer! Its one of their all time best by far.
The Grudge. Then Dispostion/Reflection/Triad by TOOL. These need a proper Geebz breakdown
YES! He is ready for these, and FLOOD. But you left out TRIAD! Disposition, Reflection, and Triad should be reacted to in order and in one video IMO.
@@holyshit1916 Holy crap I can’t believe I forgot triad, i edited it in
@@alexb9597 good call man!
I just discovered your reaction of “The Offering” by Sleep Token which is a song I only discovered itself about a week ago, and then I found this video. DGD is my favorite band, I liked this before even watching it. Keep em coming!
This singer is Johnny Craig, there new singer Tilan would blow your mind with the notes he can hit. My favorite band I'm glad you got to check them, cheers
Aloha from the Big Island. Jonny Craig was the clean vocalist for albums 1,2 and 5. Kurt Travis sang on 3 and 4. Tillian Pearson is the current guy. Jon Mess has been the screamer throughout except for Happiness where Will Swan, the guitarist and mastermind, took over.
Will Swan formed the label Blue Swan records and every band I've heard out of there is fire. Similar in style, but unique on their own. Many of the members bounce around to different bands too. A few highlights include Stolas, Hail the Sun and A lot like Birds.
My dad is a retired elementary music teacher who loved his work. This is my favorite band, I may have to show him this.
Geebz, you're amazing. Thank you so much for doing what you're doing. Your passion for continuously searching out music that is new and interesting to you is hugely inspiring and I hope that I will be that way when I reach your age too
Awesome musicians
LOVE Dance Gavin Dance. Lots of great songs, both old and new. Keep up the good work!
You deserve it to yourself to check out “purple reign” from this album, quite possibly my favorite song off this album and from DGD
holy shit, you did it
I listened to Dance Gavin Dance a long time ago and couldn’t get into them but Blue Dream came on the radio playlist I was listening to and now I own almost every album . That just goes to show you that a great first impression , or song such as this one, can get you into a band you previously thought was bad.
Im always still here. Btw, if you ever want to revisit deftones Xerces, off their Saturday Night Wrist track, is a great melt your face song.
Also Pink as Floyde from the Chilli Peppers is Great.
I really enjoy 'Count Bassy' by them!
STILL HERE!
please do chucky vs the giant tortoise, inspire the liars, or man of the years cause they’re so so amazing
love the videos. please do Inspire the Liars by Dance Gavin Dance - you won't regret it!
The band has had 3 lead singers. Jonny Craig who moved onto Emarosa which I believe is his best work, then Kurt Travis who was also amazing, then and currently Tilian Pearson who is absolutely ridiculous
I'm still here!
DGD has a storied history with theit sound constantly pushing boundaries. Take just about any jam they have and it'll get you thinking and moving. The early stuff is neat, but I feel they really hit their stride with the more recent stuff.
I'm so glad this channel exists and that you seem to enjoy everything that gets requested. I love the perspective you have and your openness to music. I want to throw you through the ringer and have you listen to Counterparts- You're Not You Anymore or Crystal Lake- Aeon ... They're ass beaters, but I want to see what you get out of them if you get the chance.
he miss the phone talk, the best part
I’ve known this song for years and years and it was actually really cool to hear you talk about it and now I understand the song structure a lot better. I don’t know shit about music other than if it slaps or not lol 😂 early DGD def slaps
You absolutely MUST do a video of “Dream the Dead” or “Graves” by Caligula’s Horse!
Still here. Keep em coming!
love your stuff too mate, its unreal keep up the good work!!
Yes, vocals jonny craig periode
The singer is Jonny Craig. He's always been an excellent singer, since he was 14.
Theyve had 2 singers (Johnny Craig & Kurt Travis) before the current singer (Tilian Pearson)
You should do Inspire the Liars (Tilian) and one with Kurt Travis (maybe "Me and Zoloft Get Along Just Fine")
imo best stuff is dbm1, happiness, and self titled, would look thru there mostly
Please do more DGD! Prisoner, We Own The Night, or Man Of The Year!
Keep it up my dude. I really enjoyed this video. Do more dgd please!
DGD has been one of my favorite bands for a few years now! Subbed! Also, you should check out Caligula's Horse - Bloom & Marigold! The two songs go together (bloom is kind of an interlude) and the transition is seamless! A really cool prog band I feel like you'd enjoy.
DGD have so many great songs I would love to hear your take on "prisoner" and "awkward'
Please listen to Dance Gavin Dance - Turn Off the Lights, I'm Watching Back to the Future pt. II
It's one of their best and little known songs
Still here!
Suggestions (Updated!):
Unexpect - The Quantum Symphony
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Vodoo Mon Amour
Beyond Creation - Omnipresent Perception
Borknagar - Up North
Black Crown Initiate - Invitation
Native Construct - Mute
Cyborg Octopus - Discobrain!
Since you’ve listened to the studio recording version, I suggest listening to the latest version from “Tree City Sessions II”. Not only is it live in studio, but it has their current clean vocalist who has been with them since 2013.
I’m subbing just for the DGD reaction. They are one of my all time favs so far. Up there with the likes of Tool, in their respective genre of course. But they are still legends. You should react to their songs “uneasy hearts weigh the most” and “inspire the liars”. Two great songs with the other two lead singers
this is what I like to see put some respect on jonnys name I fucks with tilian but its not even a competition
Purple Reign is another great track from that album. Would love to see your reaction to it.
I'm still hereee :)
I absolutely love watching non-fans listen. I hope you check out their latest album and their new live album with Tilian!!
I'm still here!
If you want to check out a group somewhat similar to Dance Gavin Dance, I'd recommend Coheed & Cambria. They have a pentalogy concept album they're in the process of making and I suggest listening to The Dark Sentencer as an introduction off of their newest album: ua-cam.com/video/T3zm1_JSPOQ/v-deo.html
***Smoke em if you got em***
Khruangbin - Maria Tambien
Khruangbin - Friday Morning
Khruangbin - Mr. White
Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes, Rocco Palladino - Lift Off (live)
St. Paul and The Broken Bones - Call Me
St. Paul and The Broken Bones - Broken Bones and Pocket Change
Please more DGD, I would love to hear some Kurt Travis era, maybe NASA
Interesting pick.....
Was hoping for some of the new stuff but JC era was also great!
Never heard of this band.. But will have a good listen thanks to you and your amazing subscribers.. Try Utopia the ikon
I was hoping you would discover DGD like I did. Started watching you because of Tool. But you seem to be taking my music paths into bands like Protest the Hero and this DGD. Please do some of their latest stuff. “Prisoner” is shuts amazing.
Please check out these two by them: Inspire the Liars, Summertime Gladness
Definitely check out Tunnel Vision or House of Leaves by Circa Survive
Gotta do Elder Goose for sure and Carl Barker by DGD!
Love this breakdown composition videos
"No bards held"
I’m still here
I'm a bumpin' bleedo
Prisoner or Inspire the Liars. You gotta react to their newer stuff. Pretty freaking awesome!
Son of robot goes crazy
Narrow Head Necrosis is an amazing song I think you'd love it
You gotta check out We Own The Night by DGD
No way!!!!
Post hardcore phenoms these guys. So many great tracks with different vocalists over the years:
And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman
Lemon Meringue Tie
Tree Village
Carl Barker
Inspire the Liars
Man of the Year
@geebz, not that you have the time. "primus" a trio band out of san fran shit hole. "tommy the cat", "fish on" or "those dam blue collared tweekers". les claypool, the bassist and vocalist as many projects. a rabbit hole all to him self. buckethead, the guitarist... i could go on. love you brother.
My man, you missed the phone call at the end
The bass player just died recently :( and now they lost their singer (the one that replaced this one) they're cursed.
Please do "From the Sky" by Protest the Hero! The vocal ability is insaaaane!
Random: The singer, Jonny Craig is also an Aries. March 26th, which I feel like contributes to his powerhouse of a voice, but he has a Libra moon, which I feel contributes to the beauty
You should really check out Odeon - Morphine
It's AWESOME
I'm new to this band but it is super intresting music. I like the song Strawberry's Wake but gotta ask, is that a weeb choice for a first song to like by them?
Listen to new Dance Gavin Dance!!!!
To those looking to expand their musical web these are some of my recommendations:
Orgone
Five Alarm Funk
Moon Hooch
Ocean Ally
Strawberry Girls
Intervals
Pantera
Modern Day Babylon
I’m sure there’s something in there for ya ;)
You need to check out their newer stuff. Jonny Craig (the singer) is an amazing singer despite being a pretty garbage human, but Tillian (the current singer) is equally amazing and unique. You'd enjoy the newer stuff just as much, maybe even more.
You should do an elliott smith track. Maybe everything means nothing to me
The rabbit hole of music is neverending, man. Spend your entire life pursuing it and all the time knowing you've only scratched the surface.
We only scratch the surface, that's the bit that frustrates me!
Can't wait until someone convinces him to react to La Dispute LMAO
The singer is Jonny Craig, who is no longer with the band. The screamer is Jon Mess. Their new clean vocalist, Tillian is also amazing! Glad you checked these guys out, my favorite band of all time!
Jonny is a crazy guy. I got to meet him a while back and hes still such a fucking mess lol. But god is he a talent. He shared some techniques with me but hes such an asshole of a teacher.
@@swingonthespiral He's just an asshole period. But with the voice of a god attached.
@@swingonthespiral did you buy a macbook from him ?
@@MMAfan030 He said it will be in the mail next week!
@@cam201040 and ALOT macbooks that have yet to be sent out
“Carl Barker” is my personal favourite DGD song, leans very hard into the groovy side of things
Kurt Travis sings that one. They all 3 are talented in their own way.
Same! I saw them play it live a couple years ago with Tillian, such a fantastic song!!
I've seen Tillian 5 times now I believe and got VIP for one show and LOVE what he does but I really wish I was into DGD when Kurt and JC were singers and I wish I saw them live 🤩
I fucking love the song especially the intro.
There's no sense of me staying so why does it matter!!!???
It doest matter, it never mattered
Lol his reaction when Jonny hits that first power note is literally everyone’s on earth their first time hearing Jonny
I just heard this song for the first time yesterday and it was my exact reaction….. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK…. This guys vocals are amazing
Bassist was Tim Feerick. Unbelievably talented. Sadly he passed away almost a year ago from now, but he left such a wonderful work behind.
Edit: after commenting I felt like I might have been wrong, and I was. The bassist for this album was Eric Lodge. Nevertheless, both Eric’s and Tim’s work is incredible.
oh shit, SWANcore. ALL LIVE THE MIGHTY SWAN!
Will Swan sleeper guitar god
yessssss!
long live the swan
Love a little bit of DGD! “Inspire The Liars” is FOR SURE my favorite. Cool that you got to these guys🙌🏽
“Rosemary” by the band Deftones would be lovely 🖤
Inspire The Liars is insane
Rosemary is definitely a must
im more of a "and I told them I invented times new roman" person. but honestly, every album is good for different reasons. i met will swan back in the warped tour days. super chill: asked for a smoke and bullshited about telecasters. the guy is just a straight up music nerd hahahaha
Will Swan wrote BOTH the guitar lead parts and helped write most of the bass on this album if I'm not mistaken
The band consists of 5/6 people at a time, with 3 changes to their lead vocalist over their discography. This song features their original vocalist, Jonny Craig, who grew up singing in church choirs which is where he got his soulfulness from. Please check out Eidola playing "Loti" or "Querents" next please!
it's johnny "steal your macbook" craig sir. get it right HAHAHAHAHAHA
EIDOLA yesssss Loti is amazing
IMO, Loti isn't the best representation of Eidola stylistically or technically. Plus, it's really slow and 5 minutes long.
Querents is incredible and closer to their standard. Also, Tetelestai, Aplissimus Machina, and Dendrochronology.
Loti is undoubtedly beautiful, I'd rather see a more Eidola song.
Please do "The Contortionist - The Parabol Rediscovered"
a smol correction- "The Parable Rediscovered"
Either the rediscovered version or the original track would be awesome to see him decompose!
I keep requesting this aswell.
Jesus, I want this so bad
Wow, stoked to see DGD getting some love. Definitely one if the best in the genre
This era of DGD and Emarosa with Jonny have my all time fave albums. Def the best in the genre.
Love some dance gavin dance. Should check out chucky vs. the giant tortoise by them.
YES!!!!
Dance Gavin Dance has gone through a lot of changes over the years, but they've always been able to morph their sound mid song, pull out the funk or jazz influenced measures, and then dive straight from that into post-hardcore or metalcore infused sounds. One of the most dynamic bands out there, and one of the coolest.
I think their genre bending chops and experimental nature is what has kept them relevant while most post hardcore acts have kinda faded into obscurity for me.
oooooooh snap. we’re in DGD territory now 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Man im so happy you like these guys! You might like "we own the night" by these guys. They have lots of amazing songs but that tends to be a good gateway
