I feel this would be more visceral and effective is she had already given birth and had to come face to face with inheriting the bad traits of her mother or not inheriting, that was the question I had and it never paid off. That was a great question that went nowhere.Her being in conflict with that would have been so much more effective than creepy shots, the monster etc.. Also, getting a glimpse of how bad Mom really was would set this up stronger, what mistakes did the mother make? what "hell" did they go through? I can't get a grasp on how bad it was, feel the weight of the stakes. The horror bit of her being chased by the monster is basically just the same context we already know, it's a shame, I really wanted to see her face what she feared. Still interesting, very well shot. Definitely has potential.
You're over thinking everything and looking for answers that weren't promised. She was clearly verbally abusive which is already nad enough on its own. Read the file she put on the shelf and realize thats all there is to it.

I have mixed feelings about this one. Looks great, great performance, fine direction, and captivating cinematography. The ceiling lighting effects near the end were super-cool. Nice sound editing. My misgivings: too long with the wide-eyed woman backing out of the room and down the hallway, a predictable climax and ending, and the burn was too slow and long for the payoff given. But...that's just my opinion and should be regarded as such.
All of the beginning was in her head, the ending was the real world, if you read the file she puts up, its about family, we were looking into her mind as she read what she was copying
