Turbo Diesel engines generally have lower compression than naturally aspirated Diesels at start up, idle, and low RPMs. The turbo kicks in as the RPMs advance and hence increase the compression ratio. Higher compression allows a Diesel engine to start easier.

You can't put the switch on the ground, because it will still be grounded just by contact with the switch itself no matter which way you turn it.
