What Do We Do in Adoration?

  • There are many things we can do during Eucharistic Adoration, but to make the time most effective there are certain things we should do. Fr. Josh puts forth some simple guidelines you can use to help you improve your relationship with God through Adoration.
We ought to kneel before the Lord, but if kneeling starts to become painful and distracts us from focusing on God, making us focus on our pain instead, we should sit or lie prostrate. As Fr. Josh says, we want to be comfortable enough to remain focused on the Lord, but not so comfortable that our thoughts start to drift off.
Adoration is a liturgical act that can bring our hearts closer to God when done right. Listen to his voice by reading the Bible. Then share your heart.
Remember the Pirate’s Prayer: ARRR - acknowledge, relate, receive, respond. Acknowledge that you are in the presence of the Lord. Relate with the Lord through your own life. Receive the blessings he is offering to you. Then respond by making some resolution to bring God into your life as you leave Adoration.
Another helpful guide for Adoration is the Rosary, especially if you incorporate lectio divina into it as you pray. Using these five steps while praying a Rosary in Adoration is time well-spent:
Read the Scripture verses associated with each mystery
    Meditate on each mystery
    Pray each decade
Contemplate by simply sitting in the presence of the Lord
Resolve to invite God into your life in a deeper way as you leave Adoration.
For more great guidelines and advice on how to make Adoration a more powerful part of you life, keep an eye out for Fr. Josh’s upcoming book, Pocket Guide to Adoration.

A church in our diocese has 24/7 Eucharistic Adoration with two committed adorers for every hour around the clock! It has been going on for 27 years so far. The blessings that overflow into the church, school, parish families, youth group, etc. has been undeniable.

I desperately want to have 24/7 Adoration in our parish but I was told we can't even get enough people for that once a month! We have every Thursday 9 to 9 Adoration but it used to be 24 hours. I told the person who organizes it that the education about Eucharistic Adoration is not taught or talked about by the priest. I hope we can work at changing things! Blessings to you and your church!

If God can get scourged they we can have some self control. We walk in the ways of our master. So we can kneel down for 20 minutes. Jesus said- pick up your cross and follow me.
Lack of discipline (as the issue you brought up) should be worked out without God.

Perpetual adoration is praying in the spirit , St Paul says pray in the spirit at all times , the act of bodily movement unto liturgy expressing adoration leaves the believer restricted unto premises .
The action of carrying out adoration is attributed to Holy Spirit working in you and through you , through beholding , and should this be the motivation unto movement of the said liturgy that would be a blessing indeed.
As our sinful nature flesh , is at war with spiritual , continual adoration cannot be achieved through learned movement of a body , unto beholding a said accident .
Faith in beholding Christ gives forth grace creating the abundance unto sin increase through no sin consciousness, in the knowledge perpetual being that of old covenant and perfection the new ref Hebrews 10 the reminder of sins imperfect sacrifice .
Being led to liturgy of any type through sin consciousness constitutes acknowledging the blood offering not availing to continued righteousness in Christ , hence adoration is robbed of its true essence and thus becomes law , therefore nullified before a holy God , although constituted as righteousness before man in of himself .

I typically genuflect (i.e. kneel on right knee) and make the sign of the cross when I approach the altar. Praying the holy rosary and meditating on the mysteries is a great way to spend time in adoration before the blessed sacrament. I hope this helps, the fact that your asking such questions speaks volumes about your love for our lord. God bless

    ❤ About Lectio Divina:
When you think, do the thoughts not "sound" in you as your spoken words, only silently in the sense that they are not heard by the ears? When you read these thoughts of Jesus Christ in his humanity, written as text, as who's voice do they sound in you? Listen:
“I who speak to you am He.”
    ~John 4:26
"That is why I told you that you would die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."
    ~John 8:24
“When you exalt the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things."
    ~John 8:28
“You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”
    ~John 9:37
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."
    ~John 10:27
"I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it comes to pass, you will believe that I am He."
    ~John 13:19
Listen and hear again with the inner ear as who's voice these thoughts of God in human form sound in you when you read them:
"I and My Father are one."
    ~John 10:30
Stones are parables for hard hitting painful accusing thoughts. In this parable Jesus is accused of blasphemy.
Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him.
“Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”
(The part in us that knows God is great, but still does not know that God's love is so great that He would be willing to experience being but a human, appearing in the sinful flesh, undergoing all the forms of suffering we undergo, as each one of us, including painful guilt and shame, may reply as the Jews who symbolize that still unknowing part in us:)
“For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”
    ~John 10:30-33
God being our Life, not experiencing God is not experiencing our Life, but death, disguised as "life."
Listen again and hear as who's voice the following thoughts appearing as written words sound in you:
"Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.""
    ~John 5:25
If we don't believe God loves us so much, wills so much that also we have his perfect happiness, that He is now appearing in this world as every one of us, our bodies are like graves to us:
"Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice."
    ~John 5:28
    Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”
    ~Ephesians, 5:14
“This is the work in which we may be doing the works of Christ, for even our very believing in Christ is the work of Christ. It is this He works in us, not certainly without us.”
~St. Augustine, Homilies on John, Tractate 71 (John 14:10-14)
"I will restore you to yourself, when I shall have restored you unto Me."
~St. Augustine, Sermon 73 on the New Testament
"He rightly returns to himself, because he departed from himself. For he who returns to God restores himself to himself, and he who departs from Christ rejects himself from himself."
~St. Ambrose, Catena Aurea, Luke 15:17
"What a joy for those who, after they have suffered for the love of God, know themselves in possession of an ineffably reward, which is no other than God Himself."
    ~St. Augustine
"Blessed be God, for so bountifully providing for us that He even bestows on us His very Self."
~St. John of Avila, Finding Confidence in Times of Trial.

And do you know the 2 things Jesus and all the Saints have in common? *Doing God’s will and humility* . Adoration simply makes you obedient to God and humble. Enjoyed watching this video and found it very informative. I go to Adoration early in the morning and struggle with drowsiness as it is so quiet and peaceful! If I am alone then I pray/talk out loud and that helps. Lectio Divina is a great idea!

Thank you Father Johnson for this video. I was told there are prayers I should say during Adoration. Are they in your book about Adoration? Just wondering. I became Catholic when I got married nearly 40 years ago, but since my daughter married a Traditional Catholic I've learned more about this faith. And UA-cam videos have been a BIG help. Please post videos as often as you can and many thanks to you and your team who make this possible.

I am an ADORER who spends an hour or more to visit Jesus in the Chapel of Blessed Sacrament of the Adoration evert week. Started to become one in 2012-2013 after series of mindless searching and ended up visiting Jesus inside the Chapel in early morning, every Sunday. I have to thank my Dear Sr. Julie, who gifted me the chaplet of adoration and to my former colleague whom i seldom see in the church.
Come and visit Jesus, he's there waiting❤

I have a question. I walked down to the box that Jesus was in. The eucharist in the adoration chapel. I kissed my fingers and place my fingers on the box. The eucharist is inside the box so you cant touch it. It is protected. But I wanted to kiss my fingers and touch the box is that ok or did I do something wrong. I never want to be disrespectful. I love Jesus dearly and wanted to show my adoration for him and love him. But I don't want to do something wrong. I love him with my whole heart. I guess I'm like a kid when I get up there so I don't really know what ro do. I do know to bow or geneflect. I'm not catholic yet but becoming one and love to go adoration and be with Jesus

I miss spending time in adoration, I used to be on a list to be in the presence of Christ every Monday at 3PM. Unfortunately, my new job does not avail me to spend time before Jesus. I miss that sacred time.

I'm going through a hard time in sin. I used to go every Thursday to see Jesus in adoration but now I'm failing to go due to how ashamed I feel and also in general I'm finding harder to forget worldly things and seek the Lord. Any advice for me? Please pray for me 🙏

    • @stpatrick614
      @stpatrick614 4 роки тому +6

Try and get confession. Don't feel ashamed. That's what the devil does. He drags you into sin and put lies into your head. Then after he has you were he wants you he will come in with the second punch and tell you are not worthy and put shame and guilt on you. Jesus loves you. Go and meet him in Adoration. Speak to him about your sins and ask him for help. Anything on the external, like worldly pleasures will only give you a brief amount of happiness, like a drug, quick fix, but once you open your heart to Jesus and trust him, he will give you a peace that the world can't. God bless.

Julia Toute I hear you and I will pray for you Julia! And just remember that God’s forgiveness and love for you is unconditionally! There is nothing you can do that He cannot forgive - but you have to ask for forgiveness yourself. He is patiently waiting for you to come to Him. Take courage dear, you can do it!

Keep praying, daily, read the Bible, say the Rosary and ask Mother Mary to help you to be faithful to Christ. All of us also struggle but we keep striving for holiness. You might find fasting will help you, whether it's from one meal or the whole day if you can do it. Supplement that fasting time with prayers or works of charity.

What do you guys think about sleeping during adoration? Do you guys think it is disrespectful to the Lord? I have done it a few times and I did not doze off, but intentionally closed my eyes and slept after prayer. And it was the most peaceful sleep, most of the times I am walking or just present with Jesus. But I don't do it often because I do not want want to disrespect him but I did not feel like it was wrong. Still waiting to ask my Priest friends but I don't want them to yell at me 😂

Is adoration supposed to be open 24/7? Every church I have been part of has 1 hour time slots for people to volunteer for 24 hours a day... The church I am attending now only allows people to go 2 days a week for a couple hours. That doesn't seem right to me, can someone clarify if there should be someone with the eucharist at all times? It feels wrong any other way but I don't know what the official rules are about leaving it alone.

This video adopts the odd fad for three-quarter views of a face, as though seeing someone talking and facing in a random direction not at the spectator is clever variety, or something.

Learning of the church before I knew what the Mass was and adoration I would cry. I know it was Jesus coming back into .. no, me coming back to Him that I could feel. Pretty sure my Guardian told me to pay attention when I saw the first holy sacrament done. Beautiful. God & Christ are real & alive.. I pray everyone can experience this beauty.
