Something that doesn't get mentioned much is Royal Enfield's customer support after the bike has been purchased.
Last year my Himalayan had developed a very minor oil leak at the cam chain cover. I wasn't concerned because the engine wasn't pissing oil, it just looked like it had been wiped with an oily rag. I've owned classic British bikes and this was nothing in comparison. (You know what they say - "If it's not leaking oil that means there's none in there" and "My bike does not leak... it marks its territory!")
When I took the bike in for its regular service the guys in the workshop spotted the leak. I was expecting them to say they'd fit a new gasket and see how it goes. I did not expect them to say "We've been on the phone to Royal Enfield and they say you need a new cylinder head."
    "How much will that cost?"
"Nothing. And there's no labour charge either."
Last month I got a letter from the importers saying they had identified a problem with the brakes. Now I have had no problems with the brakes on my Himalayan. They are not as sharp as the brakes on a sports bike but they are ideal when riding on ice and snow which I do every year. When I took the bike in for its pre-winter service they upgraded the brakes to the latest version - free of charge.
So here I am riding a 2019 BS4 Himalayan with 2020 cylinder head and 2021 brakes. The upgrades cost NOTHING! I am VERY happy :-)

    brill vid, i agree 100% :D
after 32yrs of riding 1000+cc bikes, i ordered a 2021 Himalayan and love it! i have no regrets about buying it, the more you ride them, the more they get under your skin and into your heart...It is the only bike i have owned that i couldn't ever sell. it has become my soul mate in such a short time :)

I'm 65 and in the United States I was looking at the RE INT 650 then I saw what the Himalayan was capable of doing I have rough country roads in my area the Himalayan is better suited for. Bought my 2021 Rock Red in June and taking the MSF course this week since I haven't been on a motorcycle in 10 years I plan on riding it this month until winter It's the Jeep of motorcycles and already started making it my own the fancier something is and the more electronics it has the more expensive it is the simpler the better for my wallet Great Video and beautiful country there

Have a deposit down on a Himalayan. I ride an older HD Road King that can take me thousands of miles on tarmac in comfort, but not one mile on a dirt track (at least not an easy one), and that's where I want to explore as I rapidly head toward my 60's.

Hey mate! Late to the party but loooved your video, and even more the accent x)
I'm considering investing in a Himmy probably the next year, the way you talked about her really reminded me about our legendary Fiat Panda 4x4 here in Italy, a car that was NOT fast, was the opposite of fancy, it was not a horse, it was a mountain goat, cheap and reliable she could carry you to the top of the alps at her own pace, there are still videos popping up putting the Panda against the most modern and powerful 4x4 and the Panda leaves them in the dust!
So you definitively tipped me over into considering the Himmy! Thanks!

And yeah, gotta agree with everything you've said here. She's not fast, but there's this sense when you ride her that she'll take anything and everything you throw her way, that she'll just pootle from dawn to dusk without setting a foot wrong. She's definitely a bike for tooling around country lanes and taking in the scenery rather than hooning down motorways and A-roads.

I own a 1200gs and as a 71yo I’m not getting younger or stronger and the bike isn’t getting any lighter, don’t get me wrong I absolutely love it but have been toying with the idea of getting something much lighter. The himmi has been on my radar for a while but losing a 100bhp is something I’m concerned about however after watching your vids I now need to test ride one, low maintenance and overall ease of ownership seem very appealing plus the chance to take in more of the surroundings you happen to be passing through. Thanks for the down to earth take on the RE

My dear wife died with Covid early this year and I have decided at nearly 80 years old and whilst I still have all my faculties, to do some touring in the UK and I think this bike will look after me. BUT, my one concern as the bike is over 400 pounds in weight, will I be able to get it up when I drop it. Whilst I'm nearly 6 feet tall, my strength is not what it was and so how did you find picking it up?
Changing subject: I notice you ride a heck of a lot with just one hand on the handle bars, is it because your left arm is injured?

Also, why do you need to have all that weight and power? Do you want to go off road AND be able to do 140 mph on the motorway? I've never understood it. Madness. Maintained well, it should easily make 100,000 mile. Are you sure the Himalayan was developed in concert with Harris and their English R and D department? I saw somewhere on utube (where else ? ) it was developed with some Italian engineers. Royal Enfield’s history is U.K. centred so where the observation that Italy was somewhere in the picture somewhat baffled me.

    • @WeeJaunt

No you are right the Himalayan was not designed directly by Harris Performance in the UK. They were responsible for testing and finishing many aspects of the bike. There were issues with the early bs3 model which required alot of upgrades in the bs4 model. Not unusual in a new machine. Tbh you will find more Himalayans running around in more difficult terrain for longer than most bikes. Just the nature of the environment in which the bike is predominantly sold and run. It's also subjective. I have a friend tell me he wouldn't buy a Himi due to reliability. He just sold his very expensive 2016 gsxr1000 with 3500 miles on it. Iv done 10k miles on the Himi since March and most of those miles have been in dirt.. Sand.. bog or mountain with barely a glitch. The bike is a tool. Look after the tool it won't let you down.

Just picked mine up two months ago and have parked it. 300km list of faults, front tyre out of round, no rim strip over spokes, rear wheel bearing have failed also rear cush drive gone as well, brake line rubbed thru near head stem. Don't get me started on engine. Awaiting my money back or it's going thru the dealers window. Absolute rubbish motorcycle. Don't buy this, I wanted a bike not a project

"Best ADV bike". Delusional statement. A competent ADV bike for reasonable price? Yes. Are there better choices at that price? I don't think so. Are there much better bikes for more money? Absolutely. There, honest statements for you.

I could not agree more. Throughout the video I make many statements and why I bought and use the bike. I make comparisons with more expensive-better bikes and talk about the types of compromise you need to make when weighing up the purchase and use of any bike. There are many pros and cons to consider. Thanks for the honest feedback 👍
