The history portion during the solo was about the battle of Passchendaele which lasted from July 31 to November 10 in 1917. Three months of intense fighting that resulted in an allied "victory" where six miles of ground was won... at the cost of over half a million lives from both sides. And they're debating to this day how many actually died because there was no way to take an accurate count. Soldiers would march on a wooden foot paths to get across mud and rain water filled craters caused by artillery, and they would slip and fall off these walkways for a number of reasons, and they would drown because they're tired and carrying upwards of 85lbs of equipment that can't be taken off quickly. And if you didn't die from that, you died during the fighting, from bullets, artillery, or gas, or your trench is hit by a shell and you get buried alive, or you die from exposure trapped in No Man's Land. And if you didn't die during that you died from sickness while waiting in the trench for weeks without a shower in ankle to knee deep water and human waste with rats and lice. The real kicker, that wasn't even the longest battle of WW1, check out Fields of Verdun by Sabaton, and you'll learn of a battle that lasted over 9 months, that was just as brutal.
Welcome to Sabaton history class. There aren't any textbooks to lug around, but you're expected to listen to Professor Brodén when banging your head in class.
Let's be honest the amount of historical research Sabaton does for their songs, it's almost like they did live through it, they talk to people and visit historical battlefields just to learn the history.
I wish you had reacted to the official musicvideo instead..that one is even more epic.😀 Anyway here comes my list of epicness from Sabaton. Official music videos; Bismarck Fields of Verdun To hell and back Screaming Eagles Official lyric videos; Carolus rex Lion from the north Ruina imperii Resist and bite Dreadnought Lady of the dark Epic live; Ghost Division live Woodstock En livstid I krig live Gothenburg (caps on) Uprising live Woodstock Swedish pagans live Wacken Animated videos; No bullets fly full animated story Nightwitches full animated story
The sabaton history on price of a mile (another great sabaton song) about paschendale is like a horor story.
En Livstid I Krig (Live from Gothenburg) don't forget to turn on the subtitles.👊
My grandfather fought in World War One at the age of 17
Keep 'em coming! Yeah!
Ghost division next
